The Deal
Welcome to the show Drink lots of water and take it easy on the alcohol ‘til you adjust to the altitude. Wear plenty of sunblock, bring a raincoat & warm clothes for the evening. Pack out your garbage and recycle. Stay on the trails, respect the environment and leave gates as they are. Nothing beats a tarp to sit on when things are looking wet. Transit A free shuttle bus makes downtown loops daily. It starts running at 7 a.m. Hours that the bus stops running vary. Thursday it runs until 12 a.m., Friday and Saturday night it runs until 2 a.m. and Sunday it runs until 1 a.m. (look for the Galloping
Goose signs on Colorado and Pacific Avenues). The Gondola is a free ride to Mountain Village, daily from 7 a.m. to midnight. The Gondola runs until midnight on Thursday, until 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday and until 1:00 a.m. on Sunday during the festival.
KOTO Community Radio Tune in to 89.3 FM or 91.7 FM. Local news weeknights at 6 p.m., lost and found announcements, weather, community calendar and ride board throughout the day. Blues & Brews Festival partnered with the Telluride Blues Society and the Colorado Blues Society to host the Telluride Blues Challenge. The event showcases talented solo and duo performer(s) who excel in the Blues genre, acoustic and electric, who are not currently signed. The top six entries will play at the “Blues for Breakfast” on Saturday, September 19 to compete for cash prizes, a premium Martin guitar courtesy of Telluride Music and a 20 minute set on the Main Stage at the 2015 Telluride Blues & Brews Festival, and a full set at the 2016 Festival.

The artist Daryl PRICE
I started painting in 2005 after contracting a neurological disease called Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (formerly known as Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy). I used painting to deal with the chronic severe pain caused by the illness. I started selling my work professionally in 2008. The subject matter of my work consists mainly of jazz and blues musicians and scenes from 1930/40’s America. African American history plays a big part in my work. I use no reference when I paint, even though it is mostly realism. I emphasize bright colors and movement; occasionally I use distortion for effect. My knowledge of human anatomy stems from a long career as a competitive bodybuilder and powerlifter. Since I’m self-taught, my techniques create a unique, signature style. I consider my artistic ability a God given gift that helps me cope with the pain of illness. I hope my work gives other people a sense of the joy I feel from painting. It’s time to celebrate one of this year’s headliners, ZZ Top! On Friday, Sept. 18th we are hosting the Sharp Dressed Fan Costume Contest. The contest will be all about dressing like your favorite little ol’ band from Texas, ZZ Top. So break out your beards and your “cheap sunglasses” for a chance to win TWO 2016 Blues & Brews Festival weekend passes. On Friday, we will be handing out (6) ‘sharp dressed’ tickets to the most enthusiastically dressed fans. The six chosen fans will then report to the festival merchandise tent at 5:00 p.m. “sharp” that evening. Finalists will be directed onto the festival main stage where they will vie for the most cheers from their fellow festivalgoers! The contestant who gets the most audience cheers for their costume will be awarded TWO WEEKEND PASSES to the 2016 Blues & Brews Festival. So tell your friends, join in the fun and put on your beard and cheap sunglasses!

THE Comedians
Brent Gill >>
Brent Gill knew he would be a performer the first time he felt the heat of a roomful of eyes on his bare genitalia on stage. (It’s a long story and a sealed court document). While merely a teenager, Brent was a steel worker by day and exotic dancer by night. His goal: Immortality. However, a lingering knee injury suffered during a particularly erotic shimmy to Ginuwine’s “Pony,” as well as an expanding waistline made it clear that Brent Gill’s dancing days neared an end. Initially his attempts at nude, comedic, interpretive dance failed, but he quickly found confidence behind the mic as a more traditional standup comedian. Though slightly less
erotic than his previous endeavors, Brent’s on stage charisma and energy will leave audiences aroused and entranced. “Brent is a MUST SEE live act” says Urban Life magazine and the Boulder Weekly describes him as “the love child of Chris Farley and Winnie the Pooh.”
Stephen Agyei
Stephen Agyei is one of the fastest rising stars in comedy today, behind a mischievous style industry veteran Lamont Ferguson once memorably described as “calculated fearlessness.” The Denver based comic has featured at clubs coast to coast and opened for premier performers such as Dave Chappelle and Mitch Fatel.

Adam CaytonHolland is a national touring comic and was named one of Esquire’s “25 Comics to Watch.,” as well as one of “10 Comics to Watch” by Variety. Along with his

Troy Walker has quickly become one of Denver’s most sought-after comedians, a designation he’d dismiss with a modest scoff, despite its accuracy. A regular at Comedy Works, Walker has won the Comedy Works “New Faces” contest twice. Walker has had the pleasure of opening for some of the most prominent comedians in the country and also serves as a fine ambassador of Denver comedy at national and local comedy festivals and on the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. After witnessing his storytelling abilities and commanding presence onstage it should come as no surprise that he’s also a licensed attorney who graduated from The University of Denver’s Sturm College of Law.

This band is A little out of the pocket for the typical Blues & Brews act, but Apache Relay’s performance at the SXSW 2015 sealed the deal for Blues & Brews Festival Director Steve Gumble. In fact, we’ll let him speak to Apache Relay’s charms. “I think people will be pleasantly surprised by these boys from Nashville. Their rootsy approach to music
might be a bit of a departure from a lot of the bands that have graced the Blues & Brews stage but I am confident they will be embraced with open arms in this

Rich Robinson has shed his Crowe feathers and is soaring with his solo career. Robinson, with his brother Chris, founded the powerful, Southern psychedelic blues-rock band The Black Crowes in the 1980’s, bowling rock fans over with their power and badass rock attitude. Rich’s songs and riff-heavy guitar playing were the engine that kept the Crowes in flight until they went on hiatus in 2013, officially calling an end to the band earlier this year. Not to worry. Rich’s new record The Ceaseless Sight – his third solo effort - puts his former band in the rearview mirror. He’s moving forward, and has given us
a brilliant collection of songs that Rolling Stone magazine’s David Fricke described as a, “lyrically spiritual, musically earthy balance of electric-blues, bravado, psychedelic-country exploration and almost courtly vocal cool.” It’s the kind of sound that goes straight to the heart when experienced live.

Tab Benoit is a gifted guitarist, a passionate singer and a songwriter with a conscience. In “A Whole Lotta Soul,” cowritten with Anders Osborne on the album Medicine, he laments environmental degradation at the hand of man, a plaintive ode to the natural world crisply punctuated with his incisive guitar solos. Tab Benoit is a staunch defender of Louisiana’s coastal wetlands, a crucial habitat to numerous bird and aquatic species and a steadily eroding, natural defense against the increasingly fierce storms that batter the Gulf coast. His group, Voice of the Wetlands All-Stars, tours the country to raise money and awareness for the non-profit he established in 2004. It’s never too late to start a recording career. Just ask 83-year-old Leo “Bud” Welch. His first record came out in 2013, decades after he first picked up a guitar in 1945. For blues fans, it’s been worth the wait. He made Rolling Stone magazine’s 2015 list of 10 New Artists You Need to Know and for good reason. His first record, Sabougla Voices, is a gritty, electric gospel outing that is typical of how Welch has

spent his musical time – raising spirits in the Sabougla Baptist Church. His next outing, however, is straight-up electric blues. I Don’t Prefer No Blues is pulsating with his visceral guitar work and growling vocals. If you like your blues á la Mississippi Fred
McDowell or Junior Kimbrough, this is it. This is real blues straight from rural Mississippi to the mountains.
This promises to be a mindboggling and enchanting musical match-up. Two masters of their respective instruments – Roy Rogers on slide guitar and Carlos
Reyes on harp – will be performing what will probably be the festival’s most unique set. Rogers is considered the world’s finest slide guitar player, with this comment from the late John Lee Hooker, with whom Rogers played for years. “He gets real deep and funky, and he masters whatever he plays.” ‘Nuff said. As for Reyes, he is a hero in his native Paraguay. Considered a child prodigy, he began his musical journey on the violin, but took up the 36-string Paraguayan harp as a challenge from his musician father. Now considered a master, Reyes has appeared on numerous soundtracks, released a number of CDs and has collaborated with artists in nearly every genre, from Chuck Mangione to Steve Miller to MC Hammer.

As compelling as is Cary Morin’s voice, it’s his fingerstyle guitar work that tells his stories. Through him flows blues, jazz, bluegrass, reggae and jam in a distinct style often characterized as Native Americana. A Crow tribal member from Montana, Cary Morin now calls Colorado home. World music flowed from the family’s radio and their home was often filled with his musician father’s cohorts from Africa, the Caribbean and across the United States. Stories of his parent’s African and West Indian heritage further cemented the young Henry Saint Claire Frederick’s affinity for music. (Taj Mahal is his stage name – it came to him in a dream.) As much as music flows through his veins, his twin passion is farming and growing his own food, a path that he could have just as easily followed. In college, he studied agriculture, but it was music that commanded his full attention. His career stretches back to the late 1950s when he first started gigging and has continued without pause until today. He incorporates elements of blues, reggae, jazz, calypso, gospel and R&B into a distinctive style that is as much a musical history lesson as it is a look at his family tree. His collaborations are numerous and include brilliant recorded work with the likes of Ry Cooder, Eric Clapton, The Rolling Stones and Ali Farka Touré. He has a voice as smooth as aged whiskey and a musical pedigree that reaches back to the early 1960s, when he and his brother Duane first started playing instruments.
Gregg Allman Though Gregg had other plans after graduating high school, his big brother Duane convinced him to live the life of a musician and forego a future in dentistry. Gregg Allman has never looked back. Duane and Gregg’s band, the first of its kind in the “Southern rock” genre, helped define the sound of their generation. Landmark albums such as, Idlewild South, Eat A Peach and At Fillmore East burnished their reputation as a fantastic live act. The band had become deft practitioners of soulful, bluesy rock, honed by lean years on the road. Losing first Duane, than bassist Berry Oakley, though devastating, only served to steel the remaining band members’ resolve to play on. Decades later, The Allman Brothers Band played their swan song series of shows at the Beacon Theatre in New York this year, but that did not spell the end of the musician’s life for keyboardist and songwriter, Gregg. REFILL & REHYDRATE
No bottled water is available for purchase at Blues & Brews. We offer FREE water stations within the festival to keep you hydrated all day. Bring your own bottle, or purchase a limited edition Klean Kanteen from the festival store and refill your bottle throughout the day at our Filling Station on the west end of the Park, and in VIP.
Marijuana Awareness Marijuana is now legal in Colorado but please do not celebrate this law at the festival! Remember it is still illegal to smoke or consume marijuana in public. It is also illegal for anyone under the age of 21 to possess marijuana. Please respect our new law and your festival neighbors! Marijuana concentration varies from product to product, as do individual reactions. While many experience relaxation, euphoria and altered senses, others may experience anxiety, paranoia, irregular heart rhythms, disorientation, even psychosis The effects of consuming edibles are different and stronger than the effects of smoking marijuana, especially for first time users. The type and strength of the product, your tolerance, body chemistry and what you’ve had to eat, all impact effects. Take it slow! Edibles may take up to 1½ hours to produce effects and last as long as 4 to 8 hours. People over 50 years of age and/or those with a pre-existing conditions are at greater risk of experiencing undesirable health effects from marijuana. Take caution if consuming other drugs and/ or alcohol when using marijuana. Do not store your edibles with other food and snacks to avoid unintentional consumption by children or pets. If you experience undesirable effects from edibles, try to remain calm and relax in a quiet place.

The king
BB King September 16, 1925 – May 14, 2015 Riley B. King, better known as B.B. King, will always be known as the undisputed King of the Blues. The great guitarist – who’s distinctive bent-string sound influenced countless musicians from Eric Clapton to Gary Clarke Jr. to Billy Gibbons – passed away this year at the age of 89. A tireless performer who played more than 200 nights a year well into his 70s, King graced the Telluride Blues and Brews Stage twice (2004 and 2010) in his illustrious career. So impressed was the blues legend with Telluride, he remarked, “Out of the 90 different countries I’ve been to, I’ve never seen anything more beautiful than what you have here.” King’s road was long and often not easy. The great-grandson of a slave, King was born in Itta

Bena, a speck on the rural Mississippi landscape and worked hard from an early age. He built his first guitar from cotton bailing wire and got his first taste of the blues from his uncle, the great bluesman Bukka White, and from listening to his aunt’s Blind Lemon Jefferson records. He knew hardship, he knew racism, he knew poverty, and he knew the brutal labor that is working in the cotton fields. But young Riley was drawn to the juke joints where jazz and pretty women filled the room and before long, he was in Memphis, perfecting the conversation he created between guitar and voice, voice and guitar. His iconic, voluptuous black Gibson semi hollow King named Lucille, was his instrument of choice and when B.B.’s second Blues and Brews appearance fell
near his September 16 birthday, festival staff honored him with a cake in Lucille’s form. Not only did King hold the crowd in the palm of his hand, but also those who were fortunate to be able to meet him and spend some time in his easy company. TBB Festival Director, Steve Gumble counts himself lucky to be among them. “I am not one of those star struck people,” Steve said. “However, when BB came to town for the first time I knew I had to take a moment to actually sit down and say thank you for coming to our little ole festival. I ended up spending over an hour with him on his bus (along with Elvin Bishop) because he just wanted to talk and tell stories. I have never met a more kind and gentle souled man in my entire festival career.”
