SESSIONS
Program Descriptions CESKYNT Keynote: Innovation through Education 8:30 am – 9:30 am Rena Klein, FAIA Recommended for All CES Providers and AIA Members Planning for the future and expanding the definition of learning has an obvious potential and value not only for AIA members and architects but for CES Providers as well. The way in which architects interface with professional development and continuing education must mirror and supplement their professional lives. Emerging technological advances have transformed how we work, learn, and communicate for decades and by recognizing and embracing this societal truth we are truly committing to a pledge of value and Quality Education. Professionals in the field of architecture are abstracting and conceptualizing ideas faster than ever before, resonating with the rapidity of the information age/knowledge economy. The future of education relies on mending the apathy in learning by infusing agency into the way architects educate themselves. The careful crafting and commitment to innovation through education will resonate with and inform how the firms and practices of the future approach the education of their employees. The AIA, and its providers, are now primed to contribute to that eventual and inevitable dialogue. Rena believes strongly that continuous learning will be more and more important as a differentiator for firms and for individual architects – “We are in a "learn or die" moment in our profession, and it is really true that the work of CE providers is important.”

CESFRM01 Forum: AIA Repositioning 9:45 am – 10:45 am Bill Seider, FAIA, Bruce Hamilton, AIA Recommended for All CES Providers and AIA Members Learn about one of the most important initiatives the AIA will undertake in the next several years. Architects are at threshold that demands increased awareness of their place in society and the way they present themselves to the world. Despite media predictions of a dire future, the Bureau of Labor Statistics projects architect employment growth of 23.1 percent between 2010 and 2020. How will the AIA of 2020 remain relevant to these emerging professionals or to the world in general? This initiative is not about a logo or a general marketing/branding campaign – it is a movement for change. The goal is to determine how the Institute should reposition architecture, architects, and how to reflect current client and public perceptions. Join us and find out how CES Providers are a crucial part of this pivotal initiative.
