Precedent Study Lower Manhattan Expressway & The Plug-In-City both have design stragaties that BGB uses. Lower Manhattan Expressway(loMEX) was mainly designed with transportation in mind. Architect Paul Rudolph’s concept to have the vehicular tranportation seperate from the public and pedestrians, giving the area a peaceful quiet vibe. The Plug-In-City by Archigram main concept was to build a interchangable city. BGB incorporates both of these precedent concepts. Judging by the moves of paul rudolph he designates the void area below grade to the vehicular transportantion as well as creating a more quite and safe for public space and predestrians up above. He simply does this b y playing with the street in section.

Site Analysis Commercial
Residential
By researching Manhattan and Brooklyn, you can gain information on how and why each area is developed. Throughout the site analysis, you can see why Manhattan is currently the hot spot in this area. Zoning, programing and price dierential play major roles in the development of these boroughs. With the aid of new development and public interest, Brooklyn has great potential to become a great area. BGB, uses these concepts to attract the public and make the Brooklyn Navy Yard a place of interest.

TENANCY OF BNY 1996
The Growth of Brooklyn has great potential. Through research you can see that the brough is changing, and that the Navy Yards are a good place to work.

BGB
The Brooklyn Navy Yard strives in industrial labor within its boundaries. It offers a variety of jobs, high income and is known for its historical context. However, within its chaotic constraints it lacks public interaction, transportation opportunity and protection for its community. Brooklyn Green Belt is designed to satisfy all flaws found within the site and offers adaptability in future growth.

Brooklyn Navy Yard Gate
Existing Threshold The existing site prevents public interest with just a simple gate. This threshold turns away any, public interaction.
+
Program With Bike Path
Proposed Threshold The BGB offers the Navy yard privacy while still offering the community public interaction. The program inside the berm will draw interest and the bike path will give the community a new mean of transportation.
