WEEK 3 READING: LEGER, LE CORBUSIER, AND PURISM
Question 1: What is Pictorial Space according to Le Corbusier? A pictorial space, according to Le Corbusier, is a space that connot be entered and circulated through. The space is meant to be viewed from a distance. This creates a space that is always complete when viewed front on, without lateral movement. This is described as ‘frontality’.
Question 2: The Flatness of Le Corbusier’s painting’s are attributable to two properties. What are they? And what are these pitted against? The two properties attributed are distance and frontality. The elements combine to create flatness. He pits this against rotation.

WEEK 4 READING: PRACTICE ARCHITECTURE, TECHNIQUE AND REPRESENTATION Complete your reading before attempting these questions:
Question 1: Explain the difference between Pictoral (in this case perspectival) space and Projection? ]
Pictorial space is not measurable like projections. Instead it works by having a fixed point of veiw. However this creates a more realistic view of a space, similar to what a human eye would see. Projections are precise drawings which can sucessfully convey the measurements of depth and information.
Question 2: Where did Axonometric projection first arise, and why? Axonometric projections arose during the 20th century (however examples can be found before this time) by revolutionary artists. It became a different way for artists to convey the world through a flat image. Also it became a way to show abstract information and shapes.
