WEEK 9 READING: PERSPECTIVE AS SYMBOLIC FORM

CITIES & DESIRE: Anatasia

Question 1: What are Durer’s rules for perspectival projection? (Maximum 100 words) Durer’s first rule is all orthgonal and perpendicular lines meet at a central vanishing point. This point is deturmined by a perpendicular line drawn between the eye and picture plane. The second rule is that parallel lines have a common vanishing point. Parallel lines on a horizontal plane have a hoizonal vanishing point. If they lie on a 45 degree plane then the distance between the central vanishing point and their vanishing point will be the same as the distance between the eye and picture plane.

Question 2: Describe homogenous space? (Maximum 100 words)

Homogenous space is a central perspective. It is a space that must be viewed with a single and immobile eye. Homogenous space is techniqually acurate and is only a basic replication of an optical image.

QUAD PERSPECTIVE 1 + 2

PERSPECTIVE SCENE 1 + 2 THE QUAD PERSPECTIVE WITH CHARATER SYMBOLS THIS VIEW REPRESENTS THE WEALTH, GREED AND DESIRES OF ANASTASIA. FEATURES OF THIS SCENE ARE THE CONCENTRIC CANAL THAT REPRESENTS THE CYCLICAL NATURE OF GREED. THE FIRE AND THE GLOW ADDED TO THE CEILING BY MANIPULATING AND PLACING LIGHTS IN RHINO.

THE BACK QUAD PERSPECTIVE WITH CHARATERS IN BACKGROUND THIS VIEW REPRESENTS THE OTHER DARKER SIDE TO ANASTASIA. IT SHOWS THAT ALL IS NOT WHAT IT SEEMS AND THAT THE PEOPLE OF THIS TOWN ARE PRISONERS TO THERE OWN DESIRES AND GREED. IT IS A MUCH DARKER, HORRIFIC STYLE. DEATH, SICKNESS AND PRISONERS ARE REPRESENTED.

WEEK 4 READING: TITLE OF READING

FINAL DRAWINGS

Complete your reading before attempting these questions:

Question 1: IWhat is the difference between autographic and allographic practice? (Maximum 100 words) Autographic is artwork (sculptures and painting). These require the creator to have direct contact with the artwork. In music, poetry and theatre can be created without physical contact. Allographic is art that can be reproduced at a distance through notation. It can be interpreted by notation.

Hint: How Detailed does the drawing need to be? Consider the ‘readability’ of the notations within the isometric projection and how the notations tell the same story as the scenes graphically illustrated in your perspectives.

Question 2: Why do architects need new representational techniques? (Maximum 100 words) Architects require new techniques for representation because the industry is constantly changing as technology becomes increaslingly more advanced. New VR and AR allow for the world of architecture to be seen in different ways.
