2013 CHAIRMAN’S REPORT It is with great pleasure that I take this opportunity to inform you that the club has posted a profit for the year of $101,329. After adding back the non-cash deductibles for depreciation and amortisation of $661,447, and the tax credit of $5,715, we arrive at a profit of $757,061.00 th

The Club officially entered into the new gaming regime on the 16 of August 2012. The Boards past decisions were namely: • •

To ensure the Club purchased and maintained its 78 gaming machines To go it alone as a gaming machine operation

These decisions have proven to be optimal in ensuring the continued viability of the Club in having a presence in the local community. Our General manager Mr Chris Byrne has been instrumental in creating our new entertainment brand ‘Yarraville Live’ and ‘Yarraville Laughs’. The brand has received major media attention and some great sell out nights, with the likes of International actor and comedian Michael Winslow. This has caught the attention of CCAV which recently awarded the club with ‘Best Club Entertainment Program’ in Victoria. These initiatives and other ongoing club activities continue to strengthen the Yarraville Cub’s brand as a true ‘Community Club’. Over the last 12 months, the Board has directly engaged the services of a strategic planner to ensure that the your Club charts a strong future, based on its vision and goals. I can say that the process is very fruitful as we as a Board are looking at the key issues that need to be addressed to ensure the Club’s future viability. Some issues are financial such as the appropriate loan mix, the right amount of machines on the floor and the taxation impact. However, other issues relate to the provision of parking, the facilities available to the members, the food offerings, the quality of entertainment, etc, just to name a few. In closing, I wish to thank my Board colleagues, along with our General Manager, Chris Byrne and his loyal and dedicated staff for their continued support, commitment and hard work over the last 12 months. To all members and your families, I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and look forward to your continued support of the Yarraville Club. Yours sincerely,

John Papazisis Chairman

2013 General Managers Report In October 2010, when I joined the Yarraville Club, I made a commitment on behalf of the Board of Directors, to reinvigorate and revitalise the Club. Last year, I made a commitment to focus on doing the very best we could, with the resources available to us, in an uncertain economic climate. With this in mind, I have taken time to reflect upon the achievements and the journey that the Club has travelled over the last three years. Whilst there are still a lot of things that the Club can and will achieve, I am proud to have been able to make positive changes that have assisted in making the Club financially secure. Like all of us, it is important to adapt to change to meet the demands of today’s lifestyle and our community. Yarraville Club, ‘Your Community Club’… is no different. A large part of our focus and energy over the last 3 years has been on realigning the Club to ensure it once again became relevant to the local community. We are therefore true to our motto which is ‘Your Community…your Club….’ Our consolidation and community re-focus has given us a clear direction for the Club as we re-engage with the local community. We now see this happening on a daily basis. In March, the Board undertook Strategic Planning to ensure the ongoing vision of the Club is clear and well documented. Mr Daniel Munk, who has a strong background in business management and specifically Club management, is working closely with the Board of Directors to implement this process. I would like to thank him for his commitment and dedication to ensuring the Club’s long term vision and strategic direction is clear. In August, due to government legislative changes, we parted company with Tatts Pokies and took control of our gaming operations. Whilst the first 6 months were quite stressful and not without many headaches and frustrations that were beyond the control of the Club, it is now promising to see that the last 3 months of the financial year has seen Club revenues increasing and starting to make a positive impact on the Club. Financially, the Club has posted an after tax profit of $101,329.00 for 2013 which is a year-on-year turn around in profitability of $555,225.00. Whilst the Club is and will always remain, a ‘not for profit Club’, it is important that all members understand that the Club must always be profitable to ensure that it has funds to reinvest into member and Club activities and assets as well as ensure the Club décor remains fresh, modern and up to date. Profitability is also a key in ensuring we are able to remain an active participant and supporter of community events, clubs and activities. Our Community involvement has seen us forge some great new relationships locally, with local sporting and community organisations. We have also worked hard to create stronger ties with government bodies and, in particular, Maribyrnong Council. It would be remiss of me not to thank my staff, who have worked tirelessly this year to ensure the Yarraville Club has gone from strength to strength. I would like to particularly thank Kate Buzza, Rita Looke, and Violet Browne for their ongoing commitment and 110% efforts. I would also like to thank the accounting team from AASB headed up by David Pell. They have worked tirelessly in the background to ensure our books were balanced and the bills were all paid. The team at Pekish headed up by Amie Reynolds and David Wertiechowski, has proven to be a great addition to the Club. I am sure all members would agree that the level of service and food being presented in the Bistro and functions area is something that we can all be proud of. In closing I would like to wish all members and their families a safe and joyous Christmas and holiday period. I look forward to seeing you all at the Club again soon. Yours sincerely,

Christopher Byrne General Manager

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT – 2013 2013 has been a busy and productive year for the Club in the Community. Violet Browne took on the additional role of Member and Community Liaison and has been out and about engaging with a number of Community Organisations and Sporting groups. Violet also works with Council in supporting a number of community based initiatives. Some of these include participating in Community Planning Workshops for the next four years; sponsoring or assisting Council run events such as Children’s Week or the annual Christmas Volunteer’s lunch. Violet also looks after our Sponsorship agreements and together with the General Manager, has cultivated a broad range of relationships thus ensuring that the Club is relevant to, and closely aligned with key personnel in these organisations. This has resulted in creating mutually beneficial opportunities where everyone benefits. Some of these include the Yarraville Seddon Eagles Football Club, The WRFL, The Footscray Hockey Club and the Yarraville Club Golf Club. As always, every year we also sponsor the Snooker and Billiards Championships with players coming from around the world. Another important role the Club plays is in supporting local community and fundraising initiatives. Recently, we supported the EJ Whitten Foundation by promoting their Movember fund-raiser for prostate cancer. We are also looking at running community based events such as First Aid courses in conjunction with Volunteer West, working with Rotary on joint initiatives and assisting with the organising and sponsorship of the Yarraville and Seddon Festivals. Through these initiatives, the Club is breaking down barriers and re-positioning the Club in the minds of the Community by demonstrating that we are the true Community organisation that we strive to be. Because of the changing demographic in the area being more family focussed, a huge proportion of the NEW clientele of the Club falls into this sector. Indeed, our burgeoning primary schools are further evidence of an area that has changed dramatically in recent years. The Club also sponsors many of the local primary schools and kindergartens Trivia Nights by way of Membership Promotions and Show tickets which are always well received. At Christmas we also support groups such as Anglicare by providing gifts for their ‘Wishing Tree’ which go to underprivileged families across the West. Kids School Holiday Activities The introduction of School Holiday activities has proven extremely popular with both parents and kids alike. Our ‘Movie Mondays’ provide a variety of entertainment at an affordable price for parents. Kids get to watch a movie in the comfort of a bean bag whilst parents relax over lunch, knowing that their kids are safe and happy and more importantly, occupied! We’ve now got our own kids Mascot ‘Gironomo’, the giraffe that lives in the grass, with colouring in sheets available in the pekish restaurant. We’ve also introduced a ‘Family’ membership for 2 adults and up to 3 kids which means kids get their very own Birthday Voucher when it’s their birthday. What a great way for kids to have fun at the Yarraville Club! Courtesy Bus Our Courtesy Bus provides a valuable service to local community groups, families and individuals, with many members and their friends taking advantage of FREE transportation to and from the Club. It is also convenient for our show guests when one of our Yarraville Laughs or Yarraville Live shows are on. The Bus also gets utilised by some of the Community groups we work with such as Clare Court Kindergarten and Footscray West Primary School even used it for their school camp. We transport some elderly groups for Morning Melodies or the Footscray RSL ladies who occasionally come to the Club for lunch and a flutter! For more information, our quarterly Newsletter provides all details and updates on Community activities and events, as does our website and Facebook page. Violet Browne Community Liaison
