So, save our web address in your favourites and stay connected.

One of the first things I did was read up on the wonderful 105 year history of the Club. I intend to strengthen our place in the community as - in the words of our founers “promoting good fellowship”. Or, as we would say it today, a great place for getting together with friends. That is why when I took the staff out for a Christmas dinner I presented them with t-shirts and bottles of wine that had “105” on them and that original catch cry of the Club. I have a lot of fresh ideas to ensure you enjoy the Club, more functions, new dishes on the menu and more special offers. I am confident you will enjoy being a member of The Yarraville Club even more in 2011. I look forward to meeting you soon. Chris Byrne General Manager

Our Picnic The Yarraville Club Family Picnic Day was held on Sunday 20th March and was a great opportunity for the Yarraville Club to promote ourselves to the community. Several thousand locals attended the afternoon event with its live music, rides, food and wine sampling, etc. Many of them are not aware of the services that we provide or of our latest initiatives like the SportsBar@THIRTY13, street side cafe or kids’ playground. We made a special effort to “get our name out there” including posters placed in strategic locations such as shop fronts, full color flyers

Our thanks to everyone who supported the Family Day and `Picnic in the Park’.

Initiatives

REPORT:

It is exciting times at your Club in 2011. A number of initiatives have been completed or are on the drawing board and are part of the re-engagement and alignment of the Club to the local community and new residents of Yarraville and surrounding suburbs.

These initiatives are just the start. We are working on a plan to utilise the club land at the rear of the club as an outdoor alfresco beer garden. This area once approved and completed will add a whole new dimension to the club and will allow you to enjoy your club in a private outdoor garden setting. The perfect place for a lazy afternoon. If all goes to plan, you could see this area ready to use for Christmas.

We have revamped the old atrium area and converted it into a sports bar@3013 (3013 is the yarraville post code). This area was converted simply and was inexpensive and as is becoming more and more popular. You can even book it for private parties etc. We have created a cafe feel on the street outside the club. Members and visitors can now sit outside in the sun & enjoy a drink or have a meal. We have reintroduced music to the club, every Friday & Saturday night and Sunday afternoon with a Sunday focus on Jazz. We have also introduced a soft lounge area where you can sit back and relax in a comfortable and informal space.

We have also purchased our 78 Gaming Machines from Tatts Pokies and we are beginning a program to bring you modern and more enjoyable poker machines. Over the next 4 – 6 weeks you will start too see some new poker machines appear in the gaming room. So next time you area the club, try your luck. If you have not visited your club for a while, please drop in, we are sure you will like the changes that are happening. Yarraville Club - Option 2 Colours shown are a representation only and may vary. Some site elements may have been excluded from image for clarity

If you have visited your club recently, you will have noticed the well patronised kids all weather playground in the bistro area. This area was introduced to encourage the local families to use the Club and join as members. It has proven very popular.

open letter from

PETER GALLAGHER:

Dear Valued and loyal member and friend of The Yarraville Club, I have an exciting announcement which will have a long-term and positive effect on the future of our great club. The Club industry in general has been under a lot of financial pressure over the past five years and the Global Financial Crisis only added to these problems. It has been documented widely in the media in recent times about many NSW Clubs that have been forced to close their doors due to dwindling customer numbers and reduced profitability.

However, The Yarraville Club now appears to be striving ahead and putting these dark periods behind us due to a significant financial injection of $500,000 plus from the Australian Taxation Office. Due to over payments of Club taxes from 2005 until 2009. This reimbursement will lead to the club having an exciting outlook for future success. As your chairman, I can assure you that under my leadership, your Board of Management intend to invest this money wisely so that it can assist in the continued rebirth and rebuilding process of our great club. “Why so much? How did it happen? And where did it come from?” The Board were alerted to what appeared to be an error in the clubs accounting processes over recent years. As Chairman, along with the support of the board, I appointed an external accountant with a thorough understand of `Club Accounting & Taxation’ to conduct an investigation. It was discovered that the accounting methods and calculations used by the Club Accountants and Auditors from 2004 through until the end of 2009 appeared to be different to what was seen as the Club industry standard. It was thought that this method used was not correct. We extended a search back five years and found that we had been paying far too much tax. The investigation was very thorough and took 6 months. We then prepared a submission to the ATO requesting a reimbursement to the Club. The outcome of this submission was such that the ATO agreed with our recalculations and principles to the way we applied industry standards and as such, the ATO have fully refunded the over payment of taxes plus interest. “This money has now been received by the Club!!!”

This is a truly historic time for The Yarraville Club. We now have renewed financial strength to embark on an exciting journey of reaching out to our community even more, accelerating membership growth and increasing the services that we can offer to you. When two banks and a financial institution made it known that they would be happy to lend us additional finances it became obvious that with changes my Board(s) have embarked on over the last 2 years coupled with this injection of cash, the Club is now viewed differently by the banking world. I am very excited that we are in a position to launch a range of initiatives listed in our corporate strategic plan. You have already seen the improvements that our new General Manager, Chris Byrne, has brought to the Club since late last year such as the new Sports Bar@Thirty13, the street side cafe, live bands playing here every weekend, new menus and regular promotions and a rejuvenated functions area. And this is just the start! Chris Byrne, has brought to the Club since late last year such as the new Sports Bar@Thirty13, the street side cafe, live bands playing here every weekend, new menus and regular promotions and a rejuvenated functions area. And this is just the start! We have installed a new all weather kid’s playground area within the Bistro. In addition, we are planning to utilise the vacant club land at the rear of the club to create an outdoor enclosed members `beer garden’. It is proposed to have this area open prior to Christmas this year. Allowing you as members to experience parts of the club only previously recorded on pieces of paper.

You will also notice the restoration and beautification of the Cenotaph and garden area around this. We were generously supported by the Rotary Club of Yarraville, Yarraville RSL Club and Department of Veterans Affairs in ensuring this important part of Club history was restored, beautified and maintained. We are now in the strongest position we have been in for some time. There’s never been a better time to be a member of The Yarraville Club! This is “your community….your club…” The survival of The Yarraville Club has been financially stabilised. It is now up to all of us to get behind the true meaning of the Slogan. We need to embrace and welcome the new, respect the old and understand that The Yarraville Club is a bridge that spans the gap of generations; each one of us is a custodian for the future members of the Club and as such, have an obligatory role to assist in its future. Whilst change in itself causes turmoil, evolution is necessary to the survival of all. Please share with the Board a solidarity towards success and look at this significant outcome as the pre cursor to the bright future ahead.

Regards, Peter Gallagher

Michael our Head Chef and his team have been working overtime to modify our menu and deliver you an exciting all-new winter menu packed full of new ideas including pizza. We have installed a new pizza oven and now - in addition to menu regulars such as steak, pasta, chicken, etc. - we will be delivering pizza. So, book in now to taste test our fabulous winter menu.
