Welcome from John Papazisis Welcome to Yarraville Club’s Summer Lifestyle Magazine.

As your Club Chairman it gives me great pleasure once again to update you on the progress within the club during the last 6 months.

The Board of Directors, along with Chris Byrne are proud of the achievements within the club as we race towards the end of 2017. June saw the opening of our new BAR 135, a Wine/Cocktail bar with an elegant twist. BAR 135 has been designed with a chill-out factor in mind, with great wines, spirits and cocktails on offer as well as great tapas to enjoy. Keep an eye out for special events coming up in BAR 135.

We are also pleased to update you on the successful move of the Snooker Club to a fantastic premises in close proximity to the Yarraville Club.

The members all now have a modern updated area for their tournaments to be held and to enjoy the sophisticated tables they have always been accustomed to. Following on from the move of the Snooker Club, we have recently renovated the Sports Bar/Lounge and created an amazing area for all Members and guests to enjoy our facilities

in comfort with the added bonus of our Huge Video Wall. The success of this area has already been evident with Footy Finals and Spring Racing Carnival events being showcased on this big screen.

As in the past, Yarraville Club has continued to provide Community Support to local organisations, which the club is proud to be part of and will continue to grow the support into 2018. For this Financial Year to June 2017, the Club contributed over $215,000 in community support to local community and sporting groups.

I would like to invite all Members to join us for our Annual General Meeting which will be held on Sunday 26th November, 11.00am at the Yarraville Club. As we do every year, we will provide light refreshments following the meeting, where you will be able to chat to Board Members and Staff and catch-up with fellow Members of the Club.

HAMILTON ISLAND PRIZE WINNERS Once again Yarraville Club gave away a fantastic trip to

Hamilton Island during our Membership Drive this year.

The lucky winners were Mark & Caroline who had an amazing time as you can all see.

“We'd like to say a massive thank you for our prize of 3 nights accommodation in Hamilton Island.

We had an amazing time and the weather was perfect.

Welcome to Scott our New Operations Manager who commenced at Yarraville Club on 17th July. Scott takes over from Kate who has now left to enjoy a change of lifestyle in the country with her family.

Before joining Yarraville Club, Scott was at Frankston RSL where he was 2IC of Operations.

Scott’s background is Personal Training, and he enjoys all types of sports, particularly cricket and is into fitness and enjoying a night out with mates. Please say hi to Scott and welcome him aboard.

YARRAVILLE SNOOKER ACADEMY OPENING On Friday 2nd June 2017, the new Yarraville Snooker Academy was officially opened, with a VIP night showcasing the new facility, which is in walking distance from the Club at 175D Stephen Street.

A lot of time and effort went in to re-locating this area (including moving all the tables) and the end result is an amazing area for snooker & billiards members to enjoy. Thanks to Jason Colebrook & George Hoy together with all the team that assisted them with getting this all up and running in time to hold important tournaments such as Lance Pannell & the Billiards Championships during the month of June.

(Matthew Bolton, from West Australia, won all events. He is ranked #1 in Australia in both billiards and snooker. The Yarraville Club events were his last before he begins a 2 year attempt on the world professional tour, and we wish Matthew all the best.)

2017 AFL FOOTY SEASON – CONGRATULATIONS TO THE RICHMOND TIGERS

With 2 weeks of careful planning and a lot of hard work, Yarraville Club’s new TAB Sports Lounge opened on Friday 15th September.

This area has created a warm and inviting lounge area for all Members and guests to enjoy a meal, a drink, or just get together to watch great events on our huge new TV Screen. The TV has already been a hit with the locals having watched Footy Finals and all the Spring Racing action in the comfort of the lounge area. Thanks to John Diakomanolis and his team who worked around the clock with minimal disruption to get this new area up and running. If you have not been in as yet, what are you waiting for! (See our model Jules up against the TV Screen to get an idea of how big it really is! )

The Football season ended this year with an amazing win to The Richmond Tigers who have not won a premiership since 1980. The Tiger Army was out in force with street parties in Richmond continuing on into the early hours. We were excited to showcase our new huge screen on Grand Final Day in our recently renovated Sports Lounge.

Also, thank you to everyone who participated in the Footy Tipping Competition this year. And what an unpredictable season it was, so, congratulations to Bill Kelly who took out first place on 131 points, John Snowdon & Jules Foster equal second on 130 points and Kelvin Small third place on 129 points. Well done to you all.

We are happy to announce the opening of our new bar, BAR 135. An elegant and stylish area for people to gather for drinks before or after dinner, catch-up with friends. Drop in to sample some of our great wines, craft beers & very special cocktails. BAR 135 is a welcome addition to the Club and as part of our ongoing upgrades. We are dedicated to offering a place for our ever growing younger membership demographic to come and enjoy. Open Late Thurs. to Sat.

The Community Pitch Event 2017!

Seddon Community Bank, alongside over 20 local businesses, came together to raise more than $20,000 for worthy causes based in the western suburbs. In it’s third year, the Community Pitch Event continues to be successful with about 18 groups each given 3 minutes to pitch for funds towards projects they are involved in. It is also a great way for local groups to meet on this night and get to know the what they are providing to the community in their work.

Yarraville Club hosted the event on Wednesday 17th May, with Pekish providing food for all the guests. (As well as donating to various of the worthy causes on the night.) We hope to continue to be part of this fantastic incentive by the Seddon Community Bank.

TAI CHI

U3A COMPUTER TRAINING

Yarraville Club recently welcomed a small group from Yarraville Life Activities Club to hold their Tai Chi classes at the club on Monday mornings. This is a great way for this group to come together through Tai Chi which by focusing the mind soley on the movements of the form, helps bring a peaceful state of mind and mental clarity.

Val and her team are still attending the Club for their basic computer skills training. They have become more proficient in their skills and are now able to work together in helping each other out with the their programmes learnt whilst at Yarraville Club. We are more than happy to keep this group at the club as it shows how important it is to have a place where groups can catch-up and obtain new skills together.

MEMBERS COMMUNITY BUS Our Community Bus is still available to our Members on Friday & Saturday nights.

You don’t need to worry about a thing when you call for the Bus as it is all looked after for you and you can relax and enjoy your night out.

Francesca has been with Pekish now for a couple of years and has proven to be a hit with all our customers and staff alike. We congratulate her on her recent promotion to Supervisor in Pekish and to the joy of her regular patrons she will now have even more of a presence on our bistro floor helping everyone to enjoy their dining experience in a relaxed family atmosphere.

Luke La Fontaine We are very excited as a team to welcome Luke La Fontaine as our new Sous Chef @ Pekish. Luke joins us having spent years working in Williamstown in a Head Chef role and prior to this working alongside our very own executive chef David Wertiechowski.

Luke completes our kitchen team and will be ensuring our high levels of consistency & quality of food are maintained working together with our Head Chef Jemma.

Luke is a father of two delightful children and lives locally in the Yarraville area. We wish Luke a massive warm welcome to the team and look forward to you being a part of our Pekish family.

Great Shows We’ve Seen

Our fans can’t get enough of the delightful and talented Wendy Stapleton. Wendy perfomed the Dusty Springfield Story and left everyone wanting more. We love having her at Yarraville Club and can’t wait to have her back again.

To the die-hard U2 fans, the U2 Achtung Baby Tribute was a night to remember. The band performed hits from The Joshua Tree (to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of this iconic album) as well as greatest hits by U2. They sailed through hit after hit, and didn’t disappoint with overflowing classics loved by many. What a great visual performance it was also, with costumes and visual animations as seen in the actual U2 shows. The crowd soaked it all up and left completely satisfied that this was a great night had by all.

Our “Bon - But Not Forgotten” Tribute night to Bon Scott celebrating the iconic singers birthday on 9th July, proved how many fans are out there. A huge line up of talented musicians, including 2 past members of AC/DC wowed the die hard AC/DC fans with a full list of greatest hits. A couple of satisfied customers tell us what they thought below:

Yarraville Live hosted the amazing Tim Rogers who memerised the crowd performing his new Album An Actor Repairs.

With a different twist to the performance from his You Am I days, the crowd were not disappointed with the up close and personal performance from one of Australia’s most charismatic rock stars.

Hi - I just wanted to say thank you to all who were involved in putting on the Bon- but not Forgotten show...It was absolutely awesome...first time at the Yarraville Club...and first impressions always stick in your memory. I will spread the word of a great venue.”

Yarraville Club were once again delighted to have one of Australia’s hottest bands The Chantoozies back to party the night away with their special brand of Pop & Rock. They had everyone up dancing and singing along great hits including ‘Witch Queen of New Orleans’ ‘Wanna Be Up’, ‘Kiss & Tell’, ‘Walk On’,‘He’s Gonna Step On You’ to name a few. It was great to see the crowd and the girls all having a great night!.

Bridget Everett & Murray Hill from NYC were our surprise international Yarraville Laughs guests in June this year, performing their only Melbourne show at the Yarraville Club. And perform they did. The crowd were involved from start to finish and all the singing, dancing and banter made for one of our best Comedy nights ever.

A huge cast of local Melbourne musicians put on a fantastic Fleetwood Mac Tribute Show in August. They celebrated 30 years of Fleetwood’s Mac’s 14th studio album ‘Tango in the Night’.

The crowd loved the songs covered in this album tribute and also enjoyed dancing the night away to many of the bands other famous tracks.

WHAT’S COMING UP The last few months of 2017 will end with some fantastic shows lined-up to see out the year.

Mental As Anything are performing at Yarraville Club on 11th November. Don’t miss this legendary Australian Band and watch them perform all their classics. Grab some friends for a a great night out and a ride down memory lane Then over to the UK with Glen Matlock (ex Sex Pistols) exclusively here at the Yarraville Club on Saturday 18th November.

As always, our Christmas Cracker Yarraville Laughs Shows are a great way to spread the Christmas cheer with this year’s line up being Bob Downe, Con The Fruiterer, Brian Nankervis and the fantastic Libbi Gore as MC. This show is on Friday 8th December so get in quick, (a great idea for office break up parties).

New Years Eve at Yarraville Club is always a huge night and this year will be no exception with RAW BRIT rocking us into 2018. Come and listen to this amazing line up of musicians play music they love, and take you back to the 60’s & 70’s performing British music that influenced the world over and produced some of the greatest songs in history. A night not to be missed.
