What Have You Been Doing This Summer?
he Summer Season is well under T way and there is no better time to get out and drive your Mercedes-Benz.
Two great events will be happening before the summer ends. August 29 come out to White Post Restorations and celebrate their 75th birthday. Then on Sunday August 30, join your fellow members at Redskins Park for Redskins rides. Getting out to an MBCA event is easy and a lot of fun. Meet new friends, and connect with old ones. We still have plenty of driving time for you with the monthly autocross at James Wood High School in Winchester VA. Or how about hitting the track, with Looking to play with your car on the track, well you can do that August 19-21 at Gem端tlichkeit 2015. This year it is being held is just outside of Pittsburgh, and it is just a few hours away at Pittsburgh International Raceplex. For those of you who got out to the Deutsche Marque in May or joined us for the GWS picnic in July, you know you will have a good time. Plenty more where that came from too!
With this issue of the Metro Tri-Star we will be scaling back the USPS mailed newsletters to two per year, and two digital editions, as well as sending out updates via the GWS e-blast and producing more digital content in the year to come. We have heard from members, and they are looking for more online, more digital format newsletters from the club. If you have not updated your e-mail with the National Business office in Colorado, please do so. That way you will receive all the club news. Also join our Facebook Page where members post and share about Mercedes-Benz topics on a daily basis. Fall is shaping up now with a couple of great events, the DIY in September at Mercedes-Benz of Arlington, as well as the GWS Annual Meeting. So much to do, and a lot of fun to be had this Fall. We look forward to having you join in with all that we do. This fall is a great time to volunteer to help your fellow GWS|MBCA members by volunteering to help out. Contact our Section President Katie Gleeson and offer to help out.

Aloha! Having been fortunate to recently return from 2 weeks in Hawaii, I am refreshed and ready to go for the summer season. If you haven’t had a chance to get away for a while, then I hope you are able to grab the opportunity during these summer months. June launched a great summer season for our club. On June 28th, members participated in a “first time ever” joint marquee golf tournament with the BMW, Audi, Aston Martin, and Porsche clubs. Summer just would not be the same without our annual picnic! This year we had some special surprises with both an Airstream display and technical seminars! Just another event where we celebrate you, our members with membership pins and special MBCA experiences. I am also exciting about our continuing GWS Autocross season. We have had a great turn out and it has been a joy to see many new and young faces! This year, young drivers may accompany their parents and participate one time for free during an autocross date of their choice. What an awesome experience for new drivers! With the White Post 75 Celebration and Redskins Rides events coming up, we are not over yet! Please take advantage of all the many events your club has to offer you! I am proud and honored to be of service to you. If ever you have any concerns or suggestions, please do not hesitate to e-mail me. Hope to see all of you at our fun-filled events!
Katie

GWS Summer Picnic et’s start with the food, YES, Big Mook was L back with the BBQ wagon, the German brats and all that good food. New this year were
seminars featuring presentations by both Pierre Hedary and Rick Schubert on topics of interest to owners of “Youngtimers” (near-classics of the 70s-80s - 90s.) Our own Rick Shubert, retired MBUSA VPC Manager spoke and demonstrated about paint and body work. Pierre Hedary owner of his own shop in Titusville Florida presented on “Tuning & Troubleshooting Early Gasoline Fuel Injection Systems” as well as taking questions on a variety of topics of interest to all owners of older cars. Then there were the Airstreams! A Autobhan from EuroMotorcars Bethesda, MD, and an Interstate from Safford RV, in Safford VA. Members enjoyed seeing these in person, and relaxing in the airconditiong. As always the picnic featured an amazing display of Mercedes-Benz vehicles Thanks to all of you (well over 100 members attended) who came out and shared this experience of these amazing vehicles.

Benz-Tech 16 Weekend Learn about Pre-1994 M-B’s. The Greater Washington Section is well known for Do-It-Yourself Technical Events, as well as having other Mercedes-Benz Technical Events so that members can learn more about their Mercedes-Benz automobiles. In 2016, MBCA | GWS is planning on hosting a GWS Benz Tech Weekend in 2016. This event is going to focus on pre-1994 Mercedes-Benz vehicles. We will be bringing in the experts on them to talk to members and help them plan their repair and maintenance programs for their cars. At the moment, plans are being made, and technical experts are being reached out to. If you have a suggestion, or want to serve on the GWS Benz Tech Weekend Committee, please contact anyone on the MBCA | GWS Board. This will be a weekend event, with Social Get-together on Friday night, all-day Saturday technical sessions, Saturday a group dinner, and finish on Sunday by 1 pm so folks can head home. We are looking at dates from May to October, and will fill you in as a date and a location are chosen. In the meantime, keep an eye out on our GWS Facebook Page for updates: www.facebook.com/groups/mbcagws/ We are looking forward to a fun weekend of learning about our older Mercedes-Benz vehicles.
