WILLIS HENRY AUCTIONS Folk Art Auction August 1st & 2nd, 2015 (Sat. & Sun.) Radisson Hotel, Manchester, NH NH Antiques Week Featuring the Flo & Howard Fertig Folk Art collection. Important portraits featuring the works of J. S. Blunt, H. Bundy, J. S. Copley, J. W. Dodge, Wm. W. Kennedy, Wm. Matthew Prior, L.K. Rowe, and many more with detailed provenance (Mr. Fertig was working on a second folk portrait book to follow his Revisiting Ammi Phillips [Hollander and Fertig, 1994]); A substantial Silhouette collection will be offered along with Watercolors and Miniatures, by William Chamberlain, the Dash artist, J. S. Ellsworth, Wm. King, Charles W. Peale, R. Porter, the Puffy Sleeve artist, and others in styles such as block-cut, hollow-cut, watercolor, ink, and pencil. A sizable collection of watercolor and printed Memorials (some quite rare on ivory) with provenance; Maine and New Hampshire landscapes by listed and folk artists and a quality Hudson River collection; Pennsylvania Frakturs, Calligraphy/Penmanship, Scherenschnitte. Large decorated stoneware collection with rare birds, pecking chickens, early incised ovoids; rare 18th and 19th c. redware; early wooden signs; folk sculptures, weathervanes, whirligigs, Outsider art and other antiques from St. Johnsbury, VT (Fairbanks scales, signs, and furniture); watch hutches; Hingham woodenware; 18th and 19th c. painted country furniture and accessories. Important and scarce Americana includes a rare cotton handkerchief “Plan of Washington D.C.” in red ink, printed in Boston 1796 by Samuel Hill; an 18th c. silver plaque of George Washington hand-wrought by colonial New York silversmith Thomas Hammersley (descended from the William Lanier Washington Estate, Great-Great-Nephew of George Washington, and sold at American Art Galleries, NY, Feb. 22 1920, Lot 75); and a 19th c. watercolor memorial in an oval eglomise frame with Lady Liberty and Lady Justice “Sacred to the memory of the Illustrious Washington”.
