Tw o S t a i r s p u t centrosymmetrically are what keep the environmental force outside and the gathering force inside balanced, existing as the internal tension of the peace in a messuage.

Technical Specifications Site Area: 1129m2 Buiding Area: 878m2 Coverage: 43% FAR: 0.78 Parking Capacity: 3

Project Introduction The site is located in Beiting Lane, where there are historical and cultural buildings as well as good scenery in the neighbours. In the first place, the contradition comes from the striving of three houses for the old platan inside the site and the view on the west. Furthermore, the privacy and centrality as housing itself compose inside, while the publicity and environmental force compose outside, thus the contradiction is strengthened.

Design Strategy Respongding to the tree views inside and outside the site, two platforms are designed in a house-one facing the public courtyard shared by three households while another enjoys more privacy. Two stairs is put centrosymmetrically in the lobby space in every house, and they point to these two platforms, therefore complete the space structure with the gathering space on the first floor and the opening space on the second floor.

The site is located in the typical block of Taithung city, and is on the west of the Green Walking Avenue. Accordingly, the boutiques in both alleys besides the site are welcomed, but are seperated by the housing in between. In addition, the way of single life is emphasized throughout the project, of which my consideration is to build multipal trasition regions between the maximum privacy and maximum public, which are vital for bachelors.

Site Area: 480m2 Buiding Area: 1790m2 Landlord Housing Area: 135m2 Rental Housing Area: 30m2 * 18 Coverage: 73% FAR: 3.7 Parking Capacity: 20

Design Strategy The privacy relation of a dependent living unit is initially established, then such two mirrored units adding the stairs form the basic space organization unit. By operating this basic unit vertically and horizontally according to the environment, public regions are growing organically, the ground floor are opened up with regard to the registration way.

Technical Specifications Site Area: 4637m2 Rennovation Area: 2200m2 Extension Area: 1739m2 Building Area: 3939m2 Coverage: 31% Greening Rate: 45% FAR: 0.85

Project Introduction

roof relation

The site is located opposite the main gate of SEU campus, and is actually the rennovation and extension of Shatang Canteen, which is designed by Tingbao Yang. Also, the thick bearing wall and pitched roof with exquisite skylight contribute to the beauty of this timehonored building. The project values the consistency of programming, atmosphere creating, space and structre.

structure relation

Design Strategy Functionally, the building is mainly defined as a flea market, and stores consist of fixed ones and contemporary ones. Thus, the old and new building are integrated by purchasing behaviour.

CONTRADICTION IN COMMUNITY PLAN AND DESIGN

A lightweight curved roof is designed to cover the site on the east of the massive brick construction, strenghthening the characters of both old and new buildings.

Technical Specifications Site Area: 4333m2 Buiding Area: 6785m2 Underground Area: 2374m2 Public Area: 2470m2 Housing Area: 1941m2

Coverage: 54% FAR: 0.96 Parking Capacity: 26 Fixed House: 9 sets Temporary House: 8 sets

Project Introduction The site is located at the entrance of the community in Southeast University, connected by an underground passage across a city expressway, the building serves school and opens to city as well. The task requires precise consideration of the relationship between public space with functions and two types of houses while dealing with the relation between the residence community, environment and city. Accordingly, passing in conveniece and staying comfotably form the main contradiction during the design. Key Words SPACE STRUCTURE, SPACE CHARACTER Design Strategy The east-west way, which makes the community entrance passing through, and the south-north platform, which connects and opens the site, combine each other and spatially form a cross space structure. The platform opens to four directions, serving as the transition area between public space and houses, community and city as well as enjoying nice views to stay, thus becomes the place with distinct space charactor.

MODEL MAKING & DESIGN

CONTRADICTIONS

time: Jul 2013-Sep 2013 location: SEU, Nanjing, China model size: 3mĂ—3mĂ—3m, 1/5 team work-as assistant, in charge of timber lofting drawings

We are not using model materials to copy the house, but thinking about how to use the model to present those relations in a special way.(picture 1) MAKING - MODEL AS BUILDING (picture 2) The structural form is kept as the original drawings, while the scale and logic of construction is re-presented. The model being built is actually building the distance between people and itself. DESIGN - MODEL AS OBJECT (picture 3) The key block-in human scale, inserting into the internal space, reflects the contradiction of architecture and earth slope. Meanwhile, it creats a chance for observers to enter the model, which breaks the opposition between body and object.

Opposite relations in the project:
