Broadcasting and commissioning

Broadcasting Nowadays, most music videos are consumed via the internet, with free streaming services such as Youtube and Vevo. Other ways of consuming music videos include TV channels and products available to purchase on services such as iTunes.

Pros: -Easily acceptable as anyone with internet access can view it. -Popular among a young audience which our video is aimed at. -Can be shared on social networks. Cons: -Will rely on an active audience to find our video.

Pros: -The channel is popular among our targeted age group. -It has an internet presence as well as the TV channel. Cons: -Although the main MTV channel is available on freeview, it’s sister channel MTV dance is subscription based.

To conclude, I think that both options would be suitable to publish our video. The MTV Dance ethos aims to “kill boring which reflects our product as it is going to be lively and fun to match the fast paced music. However, I think it would be best to publish our video on Youtube as it is more easily accessible for a wider audience.

Commissioning Commissioning is the process of bringing a new product into the market. In the case of a music video, it means getting funding to create and produce the video. In the professional industry, a music video would normally be funded by a record label. The process is traditionally as follows: 1. The first stage is when the original ideas are collected. It is important to decide whether the video is going to be performance based, narrative based or concept based, if the artist is going to be included or not, etc. 2. Then, the ideas are collated into a finalised brief of what is to be featured in the final product.

3. Next, they will need to find a director with experience. There is not a lot of money in directing music videos so usually you will find someone with experience elsewhere. However, in our case it will be a member of our group. 4. Finally, a budget will be decided, either by the record label or the artist themselves. After this stage, production can begin.
