kid crank.hand drill A redesign in form and mechanics of the classic “eggbeater style hand drill for use by kids ages 9+
problems noticed through observation at a summer camp woodworking class: pinching hazard from open gear design very little torque from bevel gears confusing 2 handle design
design criteria: design should be safer for kids through a closed gear system design should provide smooth ample torque design should be simplistic through single handle placement

flat iron redesign: interface Client request: Solve the issue of Flat irons damaging hair Area of focus: Temperature control interface Current problem: Flat irons currently either have a preset temperature with no control or a low to high dial. Through research we found that most users disregard temperature settings and use the highest setting. Solution: Design an interface in which temperature is not selected, but rather hair type and thickness. Different thicknesses and hair types require a range of temperatures.
market research
ideation using the flat iron guide, what if the user selected 1 of 3 settings based on hair type. would the user then be able to differentiate between the 3 settings and their hair type?
are there better ways to display the correct setting for specific hair types other than high/medium/low or 375/392/410?
ideation: text or icons what would each of these look like?

organization
cord puc.organization Ever had the issue of unplugging your laptop or electronics cables only to have them fall behind your desk? Cord Puc is a simple solution to this problem. It is a 3.5 inch rubber puck that holds 5 quater inch cables at once. The rubber holds it down on most surfaces and allows cables to retract when without falling behind when not in use. Most organizers on the market are simple clips, adhesive backed or weighted. These do keep the cables from moving however some topple over and others leave residues.
binder clip cheap thin desks only
adhesive single cable only 5 in a pack
weighted 3 cables can topple over
weighted 4 cables can topple over
adheasive single cable only cable retraction
clip single cable only only clips to thin desks

jellyfish series: desk The Jellyfish desk lamp is an eco-frendly interactive lamp made from machined aluminum, polyethylene, and polycarbonate. This lamp uses a single 9 watt compact fluorescent bulb housed on the bottom of the unit and is designed to have an open and closed state. Around the outside of the lamp are two sheets of polyethylene: one frosted and one tinted blue, both have slits in them. Pushing the lamp down allows the polyethylene sheets to open and expose the frosted polycarbonate tube.
jellyfish series: floor A new prototype based off the Jelly Fish Desk lamp. The Jellyfish Floor lamp is a LED Floor lamp. The center tube uses Cool White LED strips. The shade is made of 2 sheets of translucent orange Polyethylene. Similar to the desk version, the lamp can be “squished to open up more light. The floor lamp has 2 locking positions (open/closed) as well as a floating state. With the adjustable shade as well as a dimmer this gives the user freedom to select not only light output, but color, and pattern.
