August 19 Business Meeting 6 pm

Have I told you lately how much I appreciate all of you? You have been so encouraging to Twila and me over the few months we have been a part of Winstanley Baptist Church. Thank you for your prayers for Twila’s dad. I hope our series on prayer has been helpful. I have heard a lot of positive comments, but the real impact will be felt in your own prayer life. Even though there is still a lot we could learn about prayer, I am about to begin a new message series on Sunday mornings. On August 12 we will begin looking at “Good News about Grace.” As Christians we think we understand grace. We know we are saved by grace, but all too often we try to then live by works. God wants us to live by grace as well. The Bible says that God is a gracious God who loves to be gracious to us and to bless people who don’t deserve it: that’s His nature. Aren’t you glad for that? He does not want to condemn us; He wants to give us His free gift of grace and salvation. You can’t understand the Christian life unless you understand grace. It’s at the heart of our faith and of our relationship with God. When we really understand grace, it brings joy to our lives – it’s liberating! So, we will spend several weeks looking at “Saving Grace,” “Guilt and Grace,” “Healing Grace,” “Sustaining Grace,” “Liberating Grace,” “Offering Grace,” “Restoring Grace,” “Transforming Grace,” and “Growing in Grace.” I encourage you to invite your friends and family who have not yet received the saving grace of Jesus to the service on August 12 when we look at “Saving Grace.” The message on August 29 – “Healing Grace” – will also be a very important message for anyone struggling with self-esteem, feelings of worthlessness or emotional wounds. I think that will be one of the most important messages I have ever preached. We are continuing our Sunday night study from Nehemiah – “Lessons on Leadership.” We are going virtually verse-by-verse through the first seven chapters of that Old Testament book learning from on of the world’s greatest leaders. Nehemiah teaches us how to deal with all the problems Satan throws at us to keep us from doing God’s work. Please continue to pray that God will pour out His spirit on this church. Do you expect God to do great things in and through Winstanley Baptist Church? Are you praying for God to use YOU in a great way? Remember, you ARE Winstanley Baptist Church. If God is going to do great things through the church, He has to do them through you. Pray that we would be willing to see the church as God sees it and that we would open ourselves to being the church God intends. Blessings, Pastor Derald

Leaders needed! And greatly appreciated! Hi, would you be willing to serve as the chairman of the _______ committee? Over the past couple months, members of the nominating committee have been searching out and recruiting leaders all over the church. In many instances, we only need to ask (and maybe beg a little) current committee chairman and others to please remain in their leadership roles. But at other times we have vacancies that need to be filled. So we ask church members if they would be willing to step into leadership positions. During this season, we have a tremendous opportunity to apply Pastor Derald’s lessons on leadership from Nehemiah. While we are learning about godly leadership, we can be encouraged and thankful for the leaders we currently have in place. We should also recognize the opportunity to put these leadership principles into practice as chairman, Sunday school teachers, directors, etc. Finally, we must realize that our church is always in need of leaders. Perhaps this is a season when you will consider stepping into a leadership role as a servant of Jesus. Fielding

Pastor Search Update Although we haven’t given a report for several weeks, the Pastor Search Committee has been meeting almost every Sunday. We continue to evaluate the multitude of resumes received from approximately 150 candidates in 30 states. Every resume received is carefully read by each committee member and many candidates are researched further. For those candidates who appear to have more potential, we listen to audio and/or video of their sermons and search out any information we can find online. We will not have personal contact with a candidate until we truly consider them a viable candidate. I cannot imagine how many sermons the committee members have listened to in the process – some have unique styles, some are inspiring, and some are “as dry as dust.” We remain committed to finding and recommending the candidate we believe is God’s person to lead Winstanley in the coming years. We appreciate your ongoing prayers and words of support as we carry out what we consider a great responsibility and opportunity to serve our church.
