It occurred to me the other day that there are things about Winstanley you may not know if you are not around here on a very regular basis or if you missed a Sunday or Wednesday. I thought you might find these items interesting. One, we had a terrific Vacation Bible School, led by our director Denise Harrier. What you may not know is that we missed Wednesday night of VBS because of a power outage. Late Wednesday afternoon, July 13, a massive storm swept through the St. Louis area, taking out the electricity in tens of thousands of homes and businessWithout power we were unable to es. proceed that night, so we ate our dinner— already prepared—and went home. Two, I realized again that we have a church media center with few peers. Director Kay Reames does not merely tend the existing collection. With her assistants (I saw Jeannine Bonine and Charlene Siegel in there this week) she updates the resources in an attractive and accessible space, conveniently located across the hall from the sanctuary. You should take advantage of the media center! Three, we continue to house mission teams. Last week a group of sixteen from Calvary Baptist in Sedalia, Missouri, worked at both the Christian Activity Center and a

new church start in north St. Louis. (Calvary is where Taylor and Emily Quinley serve.) This week a group of thirty from Starkville, Mississippi has been at the CAC. In August we will welcome a team from Mooresville, North Carolina. Four, I was privileged to help cook Wednesday night dinner on July 27. As promised, we had real Mexican tamales, in addition to Cuban pork and all the trimmings. For the record, the tamales were steamed in corn husks and made from scratch with corn masa and New Mexico red chiles. (And they were not spicy hot.) Thanks, as always, to the Williams family and to special guest/adviser Marina, who happened to be present as part of the Starkville, Mississippi, mission team. Five, the search committee is alive and well. I trust that you have learned that an absence of news does not indicate inactivity. Not at all. And though I have told you on previous occasions that we might be nearing the recommendation of a staff member, I want to say that again. These are important days. Pray for us. Pray for him. Pray for Winstanley.

There is more, I am sure, but for now, that’s the view from Winstanley Hill.

On the Mission Front Mel Gunter, Richard Bell, Jim Newton, Larry Pirtle, and Jerry Wylie travelled to the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana to paint the BASIC (Brothers and Sisters in Christ) building. The building is adjacent to the University Campus. Nine (9) rooms and two (2) hallways were painted as well as removing a sink base and installing a new one. A new garbage disposal and movable dishwasher were also installed. The site is serving as a Thursday evening meeting place for Chinese students attending the University. Under the mission to practice conversational English, Chinese students enjoy a meal, practice their English and experience the Word of God for the first time in their lives. The Chinese don’t have the concept of God! Several students have accepted Christ and will be taking their faith home to China. We were fortunate to witness one of these meetings. Believe it or not, the Chinese students were just young adults exhibiting all the energy and enthusiasm of anyone their age. Thanks again to this team for helping to spread the word of God through missions.

Dear Winstanley Family, As many of you know, I have accepted a youth ministry job at a church in St. Louis, and August is my last month serving with you. Darin and I have been grateful and thankful to have been a part of such a warm and welcoming family over these last two years. You all went above and beyond when we experienced our apartment fire, caring for us in ways we could not have imagined. For that, and all the other ways you have cared for us, we say thank you. Not only have you cared for us personally, but also you have cared for our students. During this time of transition, I ask that you continue to pray for them and offer any kind of support to the ministry that you can. We have an amazing group of students who will go on to shape the future. They are vital to the life of this church and community, so I encourage you to continue to listen to them and empower them to be the Light of the world to all nations!! Peace, Lyndsay
