Anniversary Day September 10 For those of you who stuffed the huge CAMPBELL SOUP CAN for CAC, we want you to know that CAC received three $250 VISA Prepaid gift cards for our children. We are tremendously grateful for how you love, care, and pray over our children. In the beautiful name of Jesus we say THANK YOU! Miss Sally

Business Meeting-August 20 Cards for our military personnel that are redeemable for a free Wednesday night dinner are available at the Welcome Center. Feel free to take some cards and share them with our military. This effort is one way for us to say thank you to them.

I believe that in general you cannot say thank you often enough. Neither can you say it to specifically. For sure I believe that I need to say thank you, my church family. First, thank you for being a warm and gracious people. I know that is true because our guests tell me that! I am grateful for the spirit of fellowship you evidence on a regular basis. I value time spent with you around the tables during the coffee hour on Sunday mornings and dinner on Wednesday nights. As soon as I arrived at Winstanley, I realized that the front foyer you built was invaluable to the fellowship of the church. With some customizing and new furniture, this is now even more true. Thank you for knowing what to do with such special space. Second, thank you for your financial faithfulness. We are within shouting distance of paying off the massive first loan on our building, and you have made it possible! And it isn’t as though we haven’t done other things along the way, either. So far this year, outside the church budget, you have contributed $16,935.75 to special mission causes. You are a “both/and” sort of people, giving as the Lord leads and tending the home fires, too. Third, and this relates to the previous point, thank you for being a missional people. As I write this, I am preparing for a week in West

Virginia. Many of you have contributed to this endeavor without even having seen one picture of Heaven Sent Ministries. But you have trusted that God is at work there and concluded that you wanted to be part of the effort. Time and again, you have proved that when you are convinced of a need for the Lord’s sake, you are on board. Recently Winstanley’s contribution of thirty bicycles to Kenya proved that point beautifully. Fourth, thank you for understanding and valuing worship. Sadly, not all churches do. You are present on a weekly basis, accepting what God chooses to give us. You also have been present for the high moments of spiritual worship, and there have been a number of those. Only with a solid worshiping base can we be the church and people God has called us to be. I for one am grateful for the unexpected moments when God lays open my heart during a hymn or a prayer. He reminds me that what we are doing is of utmost value. I could say more, but I hope the words “thank you” will suffice for now. I value who you are and what you are doing for the Lord’s sake and I don’t ever want you to doubt or forget that! Grateful to be your pastor, Dr. Steve

Eclipse Day at Winstanley You Can Help! Monday, August 21, we will experience a solar eclipse. Our location will be near the center of viewing. We are inviting the public to view the eclipse from Winstanley Hill, offering free “Eclipse Glasses” to the first twenty guests. If you would be willing to be a host/hostess for the hour or so around noon that day, contact Fielding or Dr. Steve.

But Jesus called them to him, saying, “Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God…” (Luke 18:16-17)

GREETER SCHEDULE

In the verse above, we can see that Jesus welcomed children to come into his presence. He clearly desired to be around them. Jesus did not want the disciples to get in the way or prevent children from coming to him. Children have a more natural inclination to trust and receive the things that are set before them, rather than having an attitude of skepticism. One thing we should appreciate about Vacation Bible School is that children are not hindered from coming to Jesus. In fact the word of Christ is joyfully and enthusiastically brought to them. VBS is a time when the children’s ministry comes to the forefront in order that the seed of the gospel would be planted in young hearts. This year I had the privilege of working alongside many church members at VBS. There is a great amount of effort that goes into decorations, promotion, snacks, crafts, lessons, technology, worship, games, and more. The effort is well worth it. I was especially happy to see that our youth invested their time and energy with the children that week in one way or another.

VAN SCHEDULE Aug. Aug. Aug. Aug.

We must never underestimate the importance of investing in our children as we teach them the truths of Scripture and point them to Jesus. We must be careful that we do not neglect them. We must seek to be faithful to the commitment we make during baby dedications: “We will love him/her; we will teach him/her about the love of God; and we will include him/her in the experience of this congregation.” May each of us keep this dedication in the forefront as we seek to love our children and please our savior.
