Practice Range Usage As a part of our ongoing efforts to improve the consistency and health of the practice range tees, we wanted to share the best practice for hitting balls at the range. With the new practice range set-up, the pattern described below allows for the best balance of minimizing turf disturbance and fostering turf regrowth. The prescribed method of driving range usage for all Members and Guests is as follows:  Start your first ball at the front of the stall, as close to the divider as possible  Then work your way back towards the rope placing each additional practice ball at the back of your last divot  Finally, when you reach the back of the stall, please start a second strip, approximately two golf balls to the side of the previous long narrow strip. Ideally, all divot strips will be parallel to one another.

Ryegrass heals-in the fastest from the sides rather than from seed alone. Long narrow strips allow for the quickest turfgrass recovery, while leaving the most possible space for the next Member. We look forward to seeing you out on the practice range! Sincerely, Kirby Lee, PGA Head Golf Professional

Winchester Country Club Frost Delay Protocol It is no secret that “frost delays” can be difficult and frustrating for everyone involved (maintenance, pro shop, and golfers). The maintenance staff is committed to keeping frost delays to a minimum, but our highest priority is to protect the golf course, which means Mother Nature has the final say. During cold weather conditions please be aware that temporary greens or hole closures may be necessary to protect the golf course. Hole 3 – A temporary green may be in use on the approach where golfers will receive a guaranteed two putt. Hole 15 – This hole may be closed and will guarantee golfers a net par.

Below are the guidelines we will strive to follow in the event of a frost delay. 1) Check temperature on golf course weather station immediately upon arrival to determine extent of frost. If temperature is borderline for frost (35F or higher) check holes 3-8 quickly before making a decision, otherwise: Below 25F – Delay until 12:00pm (Shotgun) 26-30F – Delay until 11:00am (Shotgun) 31-34F – Delay until 10:00am (Shotgun) 35F or Higher – inspect course conditions, possibility of delayed tee times until 9:00am.

2) The Driving Range and Practice Green will open approximately 1 hour to adjusted start times.
