Click here to see Verti-Drain in action Recently the Golf Maintenance team has started aerifying the fairways. The type of aerifyer we are using is called a Verti-Drain. This machine allows us to poke a solid hole into the fairways 6-8 inches into the ground. This process alleviates compaction and allows channels for water to follow which will help get rid of excess surface moisture. While this process is beneficial but can also cause some temporary scarring to the turf. The first type of damage you will see is from hardpan areas where our sod strength and rooting are less than desirable can cause tufting. In areas where the ground is wet and soft it can cause the turf to peel up which can take a few weeks to heal. The reason we don't skip these areas is because these areas will benefit the most from this process. As of now about half the fairways have been completed our goal is to complete this process up to three times this Winter. While this work is taking place we will be playing Winter Rules in the fairways and mark GUR in rough. We appreciate your patience as this process will help the fairways recover from a year of unprecedented rounds and give us firmer fairways next Summer. Jason Conrad Golf Course Superintendent
