I Remember Buying That Pen For You By Ari D. Schuman
There are some memories that burn into my brain. Several, I must admit, are of you. One is your notebook, and the sinewous string (which we bought in that store off of 2nd ave.? the one where no one would serve us and we had to search and search for the perfect color of sinew?) One is of the spider of your pen, which drew millions of tiny spiderwebs which told our stories in the notebook bound by a sinewous string. One is those little words which made up the webs those ones which told our stories (like the one from the restaurant which had red-velvet chairs, which we destroyed with our rocking raucous laughter) and those stories laid on the beautiful vellum which was inside of your sinewous-string bound notebook. These are the memories of you which are burned into my brain. These are our stories.

Colophon Plaid is published annually by the Literary Magazine Staff of Winchester Thurston School. Plaid’s 125th Anniversary Edition was created using Adobe InDesign CS3 and Adobe Photoshop CS3. All text was set in Gil Sans MT, and body text was set in font size 16, and the font size of titles varied. Plaid is a free publication available to all students and faculty at Winchester Thurston School, both in its paper form and online. Submissions are chosen by staff based on quality, length, and available space, while featuring as many pieces and students as possible. All non-digital art is either scanned into the computer as a digital file, or photographed digitally by staff. Plaid is an awardwinning member of the Columbia Scholastic Press Association, the American Scholastic Press Association, the American Scholastic Press Asssociation, and the National Council of Teachers of English.
Mission Statement
Plaid has been a forum for personal expression, discourse, and communication for the past 55 years. Students are encouraged to submit the art form of their preference. This anniversary version of Plaid Magazine includes art from 1950 until today.
