BIGA PIZZA. TASTE THIS PLACE Missoula’s outdoor markets draw plenty of travelers from near and far, but locals look forward to strolling the market streets week after week because small-town pride runs deep here, shopping local is a community value and, quite frankly, everyone’s got their Saturday morning ritual, and here, it often involves a farmers market favorite.
HUCKLEBERRY HEAVEN: When huckleberry season is in full swing (August through September), you’ll find quart and gallon-sized bags of the coveted berry scattered throughout the market. If you manage to snag some, good luck not eating the whole lot before you make your way to the other side of the street.
MORELS OR ELSE: You might call it an obsession. From April to August, the elusive morel mushrooms are popping up near cottonwood-lined river bottoms and burn areas, and some of the dedicated hunter-gatherers who are lucky enough to spot them and pluck them from the ground sell them at the market, making it a little easier for everyone to get their hands on some…if you’re lucky.
MELON MADNESS: You’ll not find a better melon west of the Mississippi. Dixon Melons are a Missoula market hot commodity, and for good reason. Try their “Candy Girls” cross between a cantaloupe and a honey dew, or their “Sinful” tropical melon.

AUTHENTIC ARABIAN CUISINE ON THE GO
Missoula’s food scene is rich, diverse and delicious, thanks in large part to the many food trucks that call this town home. One of those food trucks is Kamoon, known for its authentic Arabian food and go-to spot outside of Imagine Nation Brewing. Their menu keeps it sweet and simple— just choose between a kebab or falafel, and rest assured you made the right choice either way.
The truck is owned and operated by Wisam Raheem and Ammar Omar, cousins who found their way to Missoula years ago. They arrived as Iraq refugees, first moving from Iraq to the United Arab Emirates and officially resettling in Missoula. Raheem and Omar have a passion for sharing their native cuisine and culture with others, which led them to begin their business journey like many other food truck owners—at the farmers market. Their flavorful food was an instant hit, and in December of 2018 these entrepreneurs were able to invest in their own food truck. The name, Kamoon, translates to cumin, a spice commonly found in Arabian dishes.
Raheem and Omar are grateful for the opportunity to bring their authentic Arabian food to Missoula, and love the praise and positivity they continue to receive from the community. So, next time you work up an appetite in Missoula, do yourself a favor and cruise on over to Kamoon for flavors you won’t find anywhere else in town.
OUT TO LUNCH AT CARAS PARK. TAYLAR ROBBINS
FOOD TRUCKS
Missoula’s food truck scene is one to savor. These unique vehicular vendors can be found truckin’ around Missoula all year long, serving up food that is as diverse as the city itself. You’ll also find food trucks seasonally at festivals and events like the Clark Fork Market, Downtown ToNight and Out to Lunch in Caras Park. Visit Missoula’s own M-80 Chicken for a mean chicken sandwich, and mix things up with Kamoon Arabian Cuisine or Big Thai Country for lunch—as far as we’re concerned, you can never have enough food truck fare. From BBQ, bison tacos, and Big Dipper ice cream to tamales, Thai and teriyaki, the food truck culture in Missoula is one of dedication and borderline obsession. Mini doughnuts? There’s a truck for that, too. Read about Missoula’s many food trucks and locate one today at DESTINATIONMISSOULA.ORG/FOOD-TRUCKS.
