During initial job site survey take note of the weather conditions. Rain, snow, wind direction and speed, what side the sun is on, etc.

In rainy/wet conditions it is important to be extra careful with the ladders. Spike the feet of the ladder when on wet ground. Have another tech foot the ladder whenever on a hard slippery surface.

In high winds it is important to be careful carrying the ladders. Do not leave ladders unattended in high winds.

To clean an open gutter (no gutter guard), use a gutter pole to pull the material towards you.

After pulling the material towards you, use your hands to pull the material out and put it in a bucket. Be careful to drop as little debris as possible onto the ground. If any debris is dropped it must be picked up.

The bucket should be emptied into the bed of the truck.

Scoops are used to facilitate the cleaning of open gutters. It makes it easier/quicker to clean the gutter since you don’t need to move the ladder as often.

They should only be attached to specified gutter poles. Do not use window cleaning poles to clean gutters.

Use the scoop to pull debris towards you while standing on the ladder.

Scoops must be signed out every morning.

Frozen Gutter

Frozen gutters can be cleaned using a pry-­‐bar.

Do not use a scoop to clean frozen gutters.

With the pry-­‐bar, break the ice and slide it across the bottom of the gutter to remove debris that’s frozen to the bottom. Be careful not to damage the gutter.

Remove the debris with your hand and put it into the bucket.

Frozen gutters can be cleaned using a pry-­‐bar.

Use the pry-­‐bar as described in Frozen Gutter procedures.

Pry-­‐bars must be signed out every morning.

Determine if any gutter guards need to be removed in order to clean the gutter.

If guards do not need to be removed, make sure the tops of the guards are free from debris.

Rinse the gutters with water and make sure that all debris is picked up at the downspout. Also, make sure the water is flowing through the downspout and that there are no clogs.

If guards need to be removed, remove them and clean the gutter as you would a regular open gutter.

Replace the gutter guards when the gutters are clean.

If rainflow is installed in the gutters, the top of the rainflow should be cleaned.

Visually inspect the condition of the rainflow noting any deterioration and sunken in areas. Take pictures of the rainflow.

Gutter debris cannot be dumped on any customer’s property without specific consent from the customer.

All debris that was dropped during the gutter cleaning must be picked up from the yard and swept up from porches, patios, driveways, etc.

If a customer’s hose was used, it should be spooled up and neatly put back.

Make sure all water spigots are turned off and that no water is dripping.
