Pottery Hand-Building: Beginner
Sink your hands into the dirt and have fun learning how to make pottery. Guided by a local professional pottery artist, you will learn the basics of hand-building techniques, including pinch, coil, slab building and glazing. Each class is structured for you to learn a technique that will be paired with a project, which means you are creating pieces on day one. Some of the projects we work on include planters, bowls, coffee/tea mugs and bird houses. For students with a little experience, we invite you to bring your ideas and we will do our best to help you create them into reality.

Join us for Pottery Wheel Throwing 1! This beginning wheelthrowing class is for students who have never used the potter’s wheel as well as students who are still developing their throwing skills. Participants will learn how to prep clay for wheel throwing as well as how to center, pull and push the clay on the wheel. Guided by a local professional pottery artist, students will practice making basic cylinder shapes such as mugs and bowls. Each class is structured for you to learn a technique that will be paired with a project, which means you are creating pieces on day one.
Choose a session on Thursday evenings or Sunday afternoons or both! The cost includes use of one of our pottery wheels, clay, tools, glaze as well as bisque and glaze firing of completed pieces.

Art-Family Paint Your Own Pottery

Paint Your Own Pottery gives participants the opportunity to explore ceramics in a relaxed and fun atmosphere, focused on glaze painting pre-made ceramic pieces. Whether you would like to create a unique piece for yourself, a personalized gift for someone else or just have fun, this class will provide the opportunity to get creative. This class is especially fun for families, grandparent & grandchild day, girls’ day and great as a self-care activity.

One week before the class, participants log on to The Cottage Artisan website to select their piece(s). On the day of the class your instructor will have your selected piece(s) available and ready for you as well as provide guidance and creative tips. After the class your instructor will take your finished pieces and then final fire them and deliver them back to the recreation center. Finished pieces will be available for pick up at the front desk approximately one week after the class. Please allow up to two hours to finish your piece(s). Cost includes one ceramic piece from the online collection, tools and glaze to complete your piece, and firing.

Young Rembrandts Preschool Drawing
Is your preschooler showing signs of artistic creativity? At Young Rembrandts Preschool Drawing, preschoolers will explore the world of drawing. This class will foster creativity and jumpstart art skills.

September/October: Prepare your child as a lifelong learner! Students will love the adorable llama drawing. The acorn and apple tree drawing will strengthen your child’s compositional skills and use of colors. November/December: Learning to draw basic shapes is a critical building block for every young learner. To kick off the month we explore nature and the great outdoors by drawing a birdfeeder. Young Rembrandts Elementary Drawing
Encourage your elementary student’s enthusiasm for art and help develop their drawing skills with a Young Rembrandts drawing class.

September/October: This session’s selection of drawings introduces our students to a fascinating world of color, pattern and design. We say goodbye to our favorite summer memory in our detailed still life drawing of a beach. We explore color usage and composition in our silly monster and fire truck drawings. You will be MOOOOOved with our stylized patterned cow drawing that not only challenges our technique but also our color scheme. Our students will learn cultural themes as they draw and color Kawaii art. This fee includes 8 sessions.

Students can create small art gifts during this time for the holiday season. They will have access to watercolor, tempera-based paint, oil pastels, beads for jewelry making, lots of paper, paint pens, markers, stencils, colored pencils, and more. Students will also be able to wrap and tag the gifts they made before they leave class.

Enjoy a variety of activities, such as gym and outdoor play, swimming and arts and crafts! An itinerary will be given 48 hours in advance. Flock Watchers Birding Club
Take to the trails with us to find exciting bird sightings with Windsor’s premier birding club, the Flock Watchers! As the seasons change, Flock Watchers birding club will travel the local trails to monitor the fall migration, add to our species counts and make friends in a community of bird-lovers along the way. Flock Watchers is FREE and welcomes all ages and experience levels. Join the flock by singing you and your family up for our limited spots! This program is free, but advance registration is required to ensure your spot. Birders of all ages are welcome, but children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult (accompanying adults do not need to register).

After the count has finished, we will meet back in the warmth for tasty treats and discussion of our findings.

Eco-Reporters: Homeschool Hiking Club
Do you go to school at home? Join our homeschool hiking club, the Eco-Reporters! Once a month, we will hike the trails and journal our findings as we run tests and make observations about how different the same place can look depending on what time of the year it is that you visit it. With a brand-new location to observe this fall, we will view tracks, track views, and record our findings as we learn how to be nature journalists. Our EcoReporters will spend the fall season discovering the processes that our local flora and fauna undergo to prepare for winter! Each Eco-Reporters session meets at the Kodak Trailhead, 465 Poudre Trail Drive. Combine this class with Make and Take afterschool art (245602) for an afternoon of fun!
