As always, we caught up with some of our excellent customers to share their interesting stories with you. Founder and President of Matchroom Sport Barry Hearn, OBE, charmed us with his poker-straight, no-nonsense chatter sharing tales from his early years with Steve Davis and Chris Eubank as well as explaining how he is a creature of habit and will only fly to Singapore for chili crab on the beach. SHA WELLNESS CLINIC EXPANDS

The gurus of wellness are set to open two new resorts in Mexico and the UAE in as many years. Preparing to open in 2023, SHA Mexico Costa Mujeres is located in the north of Riviera Maya.

The resort will focus on sustainability and will incorporate the natural surroundings into the architectural design. In 2024, SHA Emirates will open in the unique seaside location of AlJurf, found between Abu Dhabi and Dubai. The discreet destination is steeped in history and boasts panoramic views of the ocean making it the perfect place for a wellness retreat.

CLARIDGES UNVEILS NEW WELLNESS SPA

Mayfair hotel Claridge’s has opened a brand new spa following a five-floor excavation. Designed by interior architect Andrew Fu, the spa’s décor has been influenced by traditional Japanese temples and gardens in Kyoto. The hero feature is the large heated swimming pool – the hotel’s first – which is framed by a multi-vaulted ceiling and cabanas set back from the water.

On arrival, guests are invited to wear kimonos, enjoy a foot ceremony and choose which incense they'd like for their session. The range of treatments include a bamboo silk ritual, cryo contour facial and Augustinus Bader full body detox. The wellness menu is offered alongside a roster of guest experts such as manicures by Harriet Westmorland and hair and beauty by Josh Wood.

DID YOU KNOW?

Spanish airline Air Nostrum has ordered a fleet of 10 hybrid airships known as the Airlander 10. These 100 passenger helium airships are made by a UK company named Hybrid Air Vehicles (HAV) who expect that Airlander 10 will be the world’s first large scale aircraft to achieve a zero-emission flight. These airships have a range of 4,000 nautical miles, can cruise up to 20,000 feet at 80mph and can stay in the air for five days. HAV has advised that the base model using diesel engines will reduce air travel emissions by 75% and the hybrid models powered by electricity can reduce emissions by 90%. The electric engines are due to be ready by 2025 with operation starting with short haul flights across spain in 2026.

We caught up with Winged Boots' concierge to talk travel, bucketlists and her most recent holiday

"I’ve been in the travel industry now for 23 years from working as cabin crew to being a personal travel manager and now Winged Boots' in-house concierge.

"I’m lucky to have travelled all over the world. I've visited every continent, except Antarctica. Although I did get very close. I've been to Ushuaia, Argentina the southernmost city in the world and gateway to Antarctica.

"Bali is my favourite place in the world but I also love discovering new destinations. I am fortunate to have travelled extensively but I would love to visit Brazil again and explore Rio de Janiero. I've also never been to Croatia so maybe I'll add that to the travel list for 2023.

"My most recent holiday was to Barbados. I stayed at Fairmont Royal Pavilion and a highlight was hiring a car and driving around the island. We also dined at the iconic The Cliff restaurant. I had the chateaubriand and it was incredible"

BEDS AREN’T JUST FOR BUSINESS

Air New Zealand has unveiled the world’s first lie flat beds for passengers in economy class. The bunk-bed style sleeping pods dubbed as the ‘Skynest’ can be booked for a four hour slot by flyers in economy or premium, giving guests the opportunity to have a comfortable rest on their long-haul flight without the price tag of a business class seat.

Making its debut in 2024, Six Senses Svart will be the world’s first ‘net energy-positive’ hotel. It will function independently, harvesting more than enough solar energy to power the hotel and surrounding operations, as well as self-sustaining waste and water management, recycling and renewable infrastructure. Sustainable travel is all the rage, but is it enough to help the planet? New trend regenerative tourism takes eco-friendly travel up a notch. HIKE THE TRANS BHUTAN TRAIL HIMALAYAS, BHUTAN

After a 60-year hiatus, the historic Trans Bhutan Trail has reopened and is welcoming adventurers. It was originally used by Buddhist monks on their pilgrimage as it was the only way to traverse Bhutan back in the 16 th century. Now it serves as a gateway to discovering the first carbon-negative country in the world. With more than 18 bridges, over 10,000 steps and hundreds of miles of pathways, the trail is peppered with museums and ancient fortresses while also surrounded by dense forest and lush meadows. At its peak is Tiger’s Nest (pictured) a world-famous monastery embedded into the cliff face. You can be amongst the first in over half a century to experience the Trans Bhutan Trail, helping to preserve and celebrate local culture while also contributing to sustainable livelihoods.

EXPLORE THE WAVE KANAB, ARIZONA

On the northern edge of Arizona, near the Utah border, you can visit The Wave, an iconic sandstone rock formation within the Coyote Buttes North area of the Vermilion Cliffs National Monument. Foot traffic is limited in the canyon to help preserve its beauty, so a permit must be obtained prior to visiting. Receiving a permit is extremely exclusive; only 62 are allocated daily with 48 available per day via a lottery that opens on the first of the month, four months in advance. A daily lottery provides the remaining 12 tickets for last-minute hikers. If you are fortunate enough to seek a permit, you can expect a six-mile trek where you’ll discover The Wave amongst its majestic counterparts, The Second Wave, The Alcove, Top Rock Arch, Melody Arch and the Grotto, Sand Cove, and Fatali's Boneyard.

GIRAFFE MANOR, NAIROBI

After adopting one giraffe in the 1970s, the then-owners dedicated their lives to the conservation of these long-necked beauties, before it was bought by a neighbour in 2009 who turned the manor into a globally recognised hotel. “It was around 9pm and I received a phone call from one of my customers extremely distressed as his car had broken down. He was on his way to the airport to attend what he described as the last holiday with his teenage children as they were growing up and ready to leave the nest. It was a really special trip, and he was devastated that they would miss it. I called Emirates that evening and managed to rebook them all onto another flight departing two-days later, then moved his hotel stay so they could still enjoy their last family holiday… just a little later than planned.”

“I booked a destination wedding in Santorini, Greece. I spoke to the couple for 12 months, making sure all the plans went without a hitch for them and their 27 guests. However, two weeks before departure, the bride realised she had lost both hers and her husband-to-be's passports and wouldn't be able to get new ones in time. I sat refreshing the emergency passport appointment page every five minutes for 48-hours and finally managed to get them both a slot at seperate passport offices around the country. The new passports arrived days before departure."

“I really enjoyed being a part of such a special moment for this couple. The trip began with a flight to Santorini, where I worked with the hotel to organise for the room to have rose petals, flowers and champagne on the balcony at sunset ready for him to propose. I also booked a photographer to arrive to capture the exact moment he got down on one knee. It was a tight turnaround; we had everything organised within a few hours of the couple checking-in on their first night. A few days later, private helicopter transfers took them both to Mykonos. The pair then enjoyed a week in Barbados, staying at the iconic Sandy Lane before returning back to the UK, only to fly out to Ibiza that same afternoon. After seven-nights in Ibiza they then enjoyed sunny Marbella for a further week before returning home ready to start thinking about their wedding. What a trip!”

We caught up with renowned hairdresser Larry King to discuss his salons and products, international travel and his top tips for looking after your hair while on holiday

How did you get into hairdressing?

I was at college not working that hard, and my mum suggested that I should get out and learn a trade. She reached out to Toni & Guy in Cambridge as she had a friend who worked there, and from day one I just loved hairdressing. It was my whole life.

What was it like when you first opened the doors to your South Kensington salon in 2017? It was a surreal moment. A friend of mine said if you want 200 people to come to the launch party, then you need to invite around 300 to 400. So, I invited all my clients and friends in my phone; everybody I’d ever worked with and literally 300 to 400 people turned up. It was carnage! There were a lot of

big names and celebrities, too. Niall from One Direction turned up, so did David Gandy and a lot of other friends. It was actually so big that it made the newspapers. It grew quite a momentum. But being in the salon cutting hair together with my stylist friends was a very proud moment.

Your brand’s philosophy is ‘A Social Life For Your Hair’. What does this mean? ‘A Social Life For Your Hair’ is the ethos behind our whole brand. Our salons are friendly and not intimidating when you walk in and that comes from the friendship that all our staff have with each other. Clients feel welcome and everyone feels a part of the movement. The salons were designed to be like old-fashioned

barber shops but moved into a hair salon environment, crossed with Soho House - where in the early days you would turn up and always know people that were there. And all of that is underlined with a luxury service.

Two years later, you opened a second salon in Notting Hill. Was that another pinch me moment? Yes it was actually. We got goosebumps when we walked in as it was like a mini version of our South Ken salon. We turned it around quite quickly and launched with a great team. It had a difficult start as we opened three months before Covid, but now it’s unbelievable. There are stylists that work between the two which keeps the brand ethos and the ‘Social Life For Your Hair’ story going.

And now you’re international. Why Monaco? I was offered the space as they saw how large our brand is in London. Monaco is such a well-known but also such a small place, I felt that it lent itself to growing the brand internationally from our products through to the salons themselves. And also, being linked to Hôtel de Paris, one of the grandest hotels in the world, has helped elevate the brand to global status.

Do you have any plans for future salons in other locations worldwide?

We’ve always had a dream to open in America. We’ve done some small pop-ups in the past, but opening a salon has always been on our list of things to do. We were originally thinking LA, but now we have shifted our focus to New York, and it’s on the plan for the next one to two years. If Covid hadn't have happened, we may have achieved this aleady.

Who was your first celebrity client?

My very close friend David (Gandy) and I entered the hair shoots world together and worked alongside each other. But I’ve also done lots of other people from Cara Delevingne and Poppy Delevingne to a lot of big supermodels including Gigi Hadid and Karlie Kloss. My client list is quite large and long. It includes everyone from the film industry to the music industry and the fashion industry. But I think the first celebrity I did was Annie Lennox. I only did her hair a couple of times, but she was my first.

Do you get to travel a lot for work?

I’ve done close to 50 flights this year, which is the most I have ever done annually in my whole career. I travel all around the world and in just three days’ time I am flying to Australia. At the beginning of the year, I spent six weeks travelling with Jared Leto doing his hair for different premieres and

press days. He was in two films and also a series on Apple TV. I travelled from Mexico to lots of different states of America and then through Europe with him. It was incredible.

Where is your favourite place in the world and why? Maldives. Actually, David Ox (Winged Boots’ MD) booked me a holiday to One&Only Reethi Rah which, for me, will always stand out as one of the best hotels and one of the best holidays I have ever had. I have to extend a big thanks to David for setting that all up. It was an incredible holiday. I loved snorkelling the reefs and the service at One&Only is next level. I’m a big fan.

Is there anywhere on your bucket list?

I haven’t been to Thailand and I would like to go to some of the South American countries that I haven’t been to yet. I’ve visited Brazil but would like to see Peru and Argentina.

What's your favourite London hotel?

I have worked in Claridges and The Connaught many times doing celebrities hair for events and royalty that have travelled in from around the world. I’ve also stayed there and put those dressing gowns on myself. So, I would say they are my two favourites. They have an old London heritage too which is very special and gives you a sense that you’re staying in our capital. I am also a big fan of The Nomad.

What restaurants do you visit?

I often visit some of Jason Atherton's London restaurants: Pollen Street Social, Social Eating House and Berners Tavern. I think he is an incredible chef, and he is a very good friend of mine. His restaurants are second to none. However, if I fancy Japanese, I also go to ROKA on North Audley Street. It is quite small and intimate, has good music and a very buzzy vibe.

If you could travel the world, where would you visit first? I would go to Borneo to see the orangutans and I would take my wife. Also, just off the coast of Mexico, there’s a small island called Guadalupe and that’s on my

list. I want to swim with great white sharks and the giant ones of the world often congregate around that island. I’d love to take my daughter with me.

What's your desert island item?

A football. It seemed to keep Tom Hanks alive. Or maybe a picture of my family. That would keep me more alive than anything. Or a snorkel and mask so I could catch fish a lot easier.

What are your top tips for looking after your hair while on holiday? Wash your hair before you go to the beach, leave the conditioner running through it, and gently tie it up. It will nourish the hair and stop it drying out. Also, embrace that beach hair and don’t use too many heat tools.

"Our trip started with four nights at Conrad Maldives Rangali Island where we stayed in an Overwater Villa. The Conrad’s location means it is exceptional for discovering a variety of marine life – you can even swim with whale sharks accompanied by a marine biologist when in season.

"A must-visit is Ithaa, the world’s first underwater restaurant. We went for dinner and enjoyed a seven-course set menu. I was also fortunate enough to visit The MURAKA, the only underwater villa in the Maldives. Accessed via a private jetty, it has a bedroom and bathroom completely submerged under the lagoon, however the upstairs is even more impressive.

"We then stayed at Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi. The island is completely accessible for travelling via bicycle and the gastronomy again blew us away. The Nest is a unique treehouse dining restaurant, plus there’s also a ZUMA.

"Next up, we visited the Fari Islands which is a brand-new concept for the archipelago. We spent three nights at Patina Maldives which has a trendy Bali beach club vibe. The spa is amazing, too. I indulged with a relaxing full-body massage.

"We also visited the Fari Marina island which has a wealth of restaurants and a beach club, before heading to my favourite resort of the four: The Ritz-Carlton Fari Islands. We stayed in the Lagoon Villa and awoke to endless views of the ocean and dolphins playing. The service was out of this world and the resort is traditionally Maldivian but with a contemporary edge. I didn’t want to leave."

GET LOST IN NATURE

Costa Rica allows you to get close to nature and you can experience this at La Fortuna, a place famous for its well-known waterfall. The crystal-clear water tumbles down a 250-foot drop, and its pool is the perfect swim spot.

It is located at the base of a dormant volcano offering stunning views and optimal picture opportunities. Why not take a picnic and find a place to sit and enjoy this geological wonder?

Speaking of volcanos, make the journey to Arenal National Park where you can set eyes on Arenal Volcano. Whilst you can’t climb it, families who have their walking shoes on can trail around the lava fields and Lake Arenal. Adventurers can also enjoy the parks more daredevil pastimes such as white-water rafting, ziplining and exploring the nature sanctuary.

Families also mustn't forget the hot springs. The volcanic formations have caused thermal pools and therapeutic mud to form, creating nature’s very own spa. DISCOVER THE WILD SIDE

Calling all animal lovers! Costa Rica has a vast list of species that you can spot in the wild and have up-close encounters with. Your first stop should be the Butterfly Conservation near

La Fortuna. Here you can enjoy an excellent family-friendly guided experience called The Metamorphosis Tour. You will wander through exhibits that highlight how wildlife endures the natural environment, before heading on a rainforest river walk where you can see sloths, monkeys, toucans and parrots. If you're not lucky enough to spot cute sloths in their natural habitat, then head to the village of Cahuita, where you can visit the local sloth sanctuary and learn more about this fascinating creature.

For those who love marine life, Tortuguero National Park must be on your itinerary. The beautiful white sand beaches are the ideal place to get up close and personal with the large variety of turtles. Go between November and March and you may even see the babies hatching.

However, wildlife fans final stop should be Monteverde’s Cloud Forest. The park boasts treetop trails that lead through the clouds. But, you won’t be walking alone. More than 100 mammal species, 400 types of bird and 1,200 amphibians and reptiles will keep you company.

“With my two-year-old Otis, I try to travel from Gatwick if it’s an option as it has a kids’ soft play area in both the North and South terminal. Plus, there are dedicated nursing chairs for breastfeeding mothers,” David Ox, Winged Boots' managing director said. “Similarly, London Heathrow terminals two, three, four and five have soft play areas as well as baby and junior zones." It’s a great way to let children burn off some energy ahead of a flight as well as stretch their little legs in a safe environment after being strapped in a pram during check-in and security.

“In August 2022, my family and I set sail for seven days around Mallorca’s scenic coast. Starting in Puerto Portals, six adults and my two-year old son Otis, boarded Blue Infinity, a Sunseeker 86 Yacht, along with four crew.

“After spending the first night in Portals, we sailed to Sant Elm then on to Port Soller where we docked for the evening. Next, we visited Andratx before heading to Beach Club Gran Folies in Cala Llamp for lunch and back to Soller where we laid anchor. If you get a chance to visit Gran Folies, try the fresh catch of the day. The red snapper was exceptional.

“We also visited Es Trenc. My son loved the golden beach, while the men raced jet skis and tried to keep our balance on flyboards. Overall, the trip was incredible and we're already planning another Balearics yacht holiday for 2023.

“We booked our yacht through MEROS who were faultless. The crew were spectacular and personally I think this is a fantastic experience for multigenerational family holidays, or even groups of couples marking a milestone. It's an economical way to dip your toe into yacht ownership and boating holidays."

Mallorca, the largest of the Balearic Islands, certainly has a diverse landscape and this is reflected in all of its towns and villages. Its capital, Palma, is anchored by an impressive Gothic landmark, the Santa Maria cathedral, that is surrounded by winding streets bursting with art galleries, interior design shops and luxury boutiques. There’s also an Instagrammable 2,000-berth harbour that homes rows upon rows of motor and sailing yachts.

Calling all Formula 1 fans. The bright lights city is gonna set your soul on fire with its new 2023 calendar that is heading to Las Vegas for the penultimate race of the season. Zooming around the iconic strip, this night race will be set against the backdrop of the Bellagio’s dancing fountains, Paris’ twinkling Eiffel Tower and The Mirage’s erupting volcano. Oh, and the small matter of roughly 12 million neon bulbs that help make Las Vegas Boulevard visible from space.

Set over Thanksgiving weekend, Las Vegas is joining its US city cousins Miami and Austin and will be the third American host during the season. The race will take place on Saturday 18th November at approximately 10pm

local time and is set to be a highlight for 2023 racing. The 14-turn track will run for 3.8 miles with top speeds expected to hit 212mph. It will feature three straights, a high-speed cornering sequence and a single chicane section, with the Grand Prix to be run over 50 laps.

The Grand Prix was last in Las Vegas more than 40 years ago, in 1981 and 1982, where it was then known as The Caesars Palace Grand Prix and the track was set in the glorious hotel’s not so impressive car park. Making history by returning for 2023 with a

much more striking track, this also sparks the first time that Formula 1 has included a mammoth 24 races in its season.

In an exclusive interview at Matchroom HQ, Barry Hearn talks the early years, his love of sport and his favourite travel destinations

I always say if someone had stood in front of Eubank with a gun I would have stood between them. That was the commitment level

Of humble beginnings growing up on a Dagenham council estate, Barry Hearn’s schoolboy entrepreneurial spirit and the driving force of his mother are still very much a part of him today. It’s this upbringing that can be credited for creating Matchroom Sport and in turn making it one of the biggest sport promotion companies in the world. “Someone once described me as ‘he’s not the brightest candle in the room, but he can burn longer than anyone else,’” reminisced Barry Hearn as we sit in a meeting room at Mascalls, Hearn’s large former family home and now Matchroom Sports HQ. “I am relentless, and I may not have been the smartest kid on the block, but I made up for that with hard work.”

And this drive began in his early years, where he would organise car washing, gardening and window cleaning before washing cars for the big houses on the top of the hill. “As a kid, if I wanted something I had to go out and get it. I’d try anything to turn a pound into two, or a penny into two pence,” Barry said. He then qualified as a chartered accountant, and his determination saw him quickly become part owner of a group of snooker halls. “I was on a mission,” Barry recalled. “And my mission was to create wealth and legacy for myself initially, my family secondly, and the community that I came from thirdly.

“Some people say ‘ain’t you got enough money?’ But it’s not about the money. It’s about winning, levelling up against the world and saying thank you very much. Business is just like sport. We practise, we dedicate, we sacrifice, we work hard, and we will be the best that we can be.”

THE DAY IT ALL CHANGED

It was at one of his snooker halls, in Romford Essex, that Barry met a young Steve Davis, and a lifelong friendship was formed that rewrote their paths. “Steve winning the World Championship in 1981 was a big changing point in both our lives. He was the best player in the world, and we used that as leverage to open up opportunities from around the globe,” he said. From snooker tours across Asia to receiving complimentary watches, Barry describes these early years as being given the keys to the sweetie factory. “These two council estate boys had ‘had it off’. Our whole world had changed and we used to pinch ourself everyday and wonder how we were getting away with it,” he laughed.

“We would toss a coin to decide who would pay the bill when at a restaurant. If he won, I’d pay. But if he lost, when he asked for the bill the restaurant always used to say to him ‘Mr Davis, it’s been a pleasure having you here.’ And they never charged him. So, after a few dinners like this, I

said to Steve ‘let’s not toss the coin anymore. Instead, you ask for the bill. And if they charge us, I’ll pay.’ It was a new gamble, and it worked like a dream.”

Over the years, Barry worked with all the greats. Frank Bruno, Ronnie O’Sullivan, Phil Taylor, Anthony Joshua and Chris Eubank to name just a few. “When you really get close to a superstar, you fall in love with them really. And I always say if someone had stood in front of Eubank with a gun, I would have stood between them. That was the commitment level,” he explained.

“I remember Eubank fighting in Germany once and the crowd were very hostile, chanting ‘kill the black man’. One of them leaned over and tried to grab Eubank, so I gave him a little bit of a Romford kiss and cut him across the head. I was petrified, but Eubank just looked at me and

purred ‘nice one Bazza’. He kept his cool and as we got to the ring he walked around it snarling at them like a lion. I was screaming, ‘get in the ring'. But he said ‘I am eating the hate’ and I thought what a wonderful description.”

MOMENTS THAT MATTER MOST

Bursting with stories, Barry could have gone on all afternoon, but his schedule wouldn’t permit, so he moved on to his top pinch me moments. Without hesitation, Barry said: “Walking your daughter down the aisle and holding your grandchildren for the first time is definitely a pinch me moment.” A true testament to his well-known mantra ‘Family first… business a close second.’

But moving back to sport, he cited 1982 when someone first gave him a large cheque. “I’d never had money before. Instead, I had overdrafts. I was 34 years old and I was going to retire. I’d made seven figures and I thought that was it. But after six weeks, I was climbing the walls, so Matchroom was formed, named after the match room in Romford where Steve Davis used to play and I’d gamble on him.” Second was the arrival of SKY television in the UK. “After all those years of begging ITV and BBC to give me five minutes here and there, I now had broadcasters offering me hundreds of hours.” And finally, the world-famous Benn V Eubank fight in 1990.

A SPORTSMAN AT HEART

A keen golfer, fisherman and cricket player, Barry has tried many other sports during his 74 years. “The story with me

is that I was always good at everything, but never great at anything,” he said. “But that’s a frustration I have managed to live with.” Barry plays cricket for Essex over 70s and dreams of being picked for the England over 70s. He also enjoys angling, and fishes around the world. “My favourite spot is Nimmo Bay in British Columbia, Canada. But I also enjoy carp fishing in France. However, I have limited time to do what I want. I’m not single and I am not without children and grandchildren. If you were on your own, free as the air, then you’d spend your entire life doing that. Instead, it’s a treat for me when I go. But I do have a boat in Antigua so I often go out and catch my lunch. So when I’ve got my food, I come back in, and that’s really special.”

TRAVELLING THE WORLD Tourist attractions and fleeting trips may not be important to Barry anymore. Instead, he values his time and spending it with his family, but he has ridden a horse along The Great Wall of China and seen the Taj Mahal. “I haven’t seen the whole world, but I’ve seen enough of it,” he said.

“But I am very picky now. Airports are a pain, check-in is a pain and security is a pain. So everything has to be tailored to be as easy as possible for me, otherwise I won’t go. Why do I want to go to Singapore when everything these days can be done over Zoom? I’ll tell you why, I like chili crab on the beach. It’s the best food in Singapore. It could be a 10-million-dollar contract, but I’m there for the chili crab.”

But, it wasn’t always flat-bed seats and airport lounges.

“Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok is my favourite. There are lots of good hotels out there, but to sit by The River Of Kings eating the evening barbeque that is off the scale. The place is simply gorgeous.”

BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS

“I like two eggs, sunny side up, crispy bacon and tinned tomatoes.”

“My dad was a bus driver. We didn’t have any money. It wasn’t until my teenage years that I even realised people had indoor toilets,” Barry said. Instead, holidaying with ‘Boy Barry’ was camping in Devon or Cornwall, working the land for the first week picking peas, potatoes, strawberries and more for half a crown per bag, to earn money to enjoy the second week. “We’d put our tent in someone’s farm and I remember once waking up and saying ‘what’s that smell?’ It was terrible. Turns out we’d pitched up in the dark over some cow dung,” he laughed.

From cowpats to Barbados’ top hotel Sandy Lane and meeting Barbara Streisand in The Plaza Athènèe New York, Barry certainly has seen a lot of the world, but he’s also a self-proclaimed creature of habit. “If you’re working flat out all the time, you go where you know you’re going to get looked after,” he said. And for Mr Hearn, that includes The Plaza Athènèe New York, (“I’ve been going to New York for 50 years and I’ve never stayed anywhere else I don’t think”) The Plaza Athènèe Paris, Waldorf Astoria London and Jumby Bay, Antigua.

“If you want success in life, you have to make sacrifices. Even holidays. Because later on in life, you don’t visit an island – you buy one.” And that’s true of Barry’s favourite family hotspot. After years of holidaying in Mauritius, it rained for the entire 10 day trip, so Antigua became the family’s next destination of choice. “Winged Boots suggested the Caribbean and Jumby Bay. We tried it, and after six or seven years of holidays I decided to buy a piece of it. It’s a family home and I go around six times a year.”

For the past seven years, Ocean Holidays, Winged Boots’ parent company, has held a box at The O2 allowing us to host The Extra Mile events as well as offer complimentary tickets to customers simply as a thank you for booking with us.
