Welcome

…to volume seven of Winged Boots: The Lifestyle Brochure. Allow us to guide you through a collection of rousing travel inspiration, exclusive interviews with our fantastic customers and, of course, a wide selection of our favourite hotels from around the world. You’ll be reaching for your passport in no time.

In this edition, we’re highlighting trending travel destinations and 2025’s hottest new hotel openings (p.24) as well as sharing our favourite holiday swaps (p.50) and talking everything Antarctica on page 32. Focussing on sustainability and the beauty of the journey, we showcase the most scenic rail routes onboard deluxe trains (p.36) as well as answering a very popular question, ‘which Sani resort is best for me?’ on page 46.

As always, we caught up with some of our well-known customers to share their interesting stories with you. Nightlife entrepreneur Asher Grant tells all about his latest venture, PIRANA London, a festive dining restaurant in the heart of Mayfair, plus he shares where’s on his travel bucket list (p.70). Meanwhile, on page 20, Georgiana Huddart, the brains behind inclusive swimwear brand Hunza G, explains how she rebirthed the legacy ‘80s brand, what she thinks about womens’ voices in the fashion industry, and why it’s important to stay curious.

For you sport fans, we’re excited for the 2026 World Cup and have put together a premier choice of hotels in the heart of the action on page 74. As well as places to stay, you can learn how to spend your extra time in each location with a list of crowd-pleasing activities. Those who prefer to ski can turn to page 76 and there’s news on our Formula 1 travel packages on page 78.

Throughout the brochure we have included our Winged Boots Approved globe icon to indicate which resorts use sustainable practices and have an ethical conscience. From giving back to the local community to helping to preserve wildlife, sealife and the natural environment, these destinations and hotels are actively trying to reduce their footprint.

To stay up to speed with us throughout the year, make sure to check out our social channels where you can keep up to date with our latest articles, special offers and unique itineraries. Winged Boots is a family-run business. We care about our local community and supporting it where we can. Which is why we are proud to share that Winged Boots is the first company to partner with the Brentwood School Foundation to launch its 1622 Corporate Partnership. This new programme is a way for businesses to offer students a full bursary placement at the Brentwood School’s sixth form college; a two-year life-changing education that will set them up for university or finding a job. As the new initiative’s very first 1622 corporate sponsor, the student (who is from Marshalls Park Academy in Romford) enrolled in September 2024, and we look forward to hearing about their academic achievements and the opportunities Brentwood School can offer.

TWO JETS, TWO DAYS, ONE EUROS FINAL

When it comes to booking flights, accommodation, and experiences, we like to say there’s not much Winged Boots can’t do. This was truly put to the test during the anticipated Euros 2024 final between England and Spain. Securing a 50-seater private jet to fly our clients straight to the action in Berlin, the plane sold out in a record 90 minutes leading us to quickly secure a second jet which filled over the next 24 hours. And, while it may not have come home this time, 100 Winged Boots football fans certainly did; and in style.

THE NEXT GENERATION OF BUSINESS CLASS

Qatar Airways’ already groundbreaking Qsuite business class has got even better, with Qsuite 2 setting records for its level of luxury in the sky. The redesign inside the Qsuite has increased shoulder space and leg room, with larger lie-flat beds and doubles. Like the original, the new generation Qsuite still has a strong focus on sociability with enhancements to the family-friendly Quad Suite where four cabins can swivel to create one large space with a central table. And now, two televisions also twist around so you can enjoy dinner and a movie together. Plus, the window pods can be opened up to create a duplex companion suite. More storage space and upgraded entertainment systems complete the redesign.

INTRODUCING EMIRATES EXECUTIVE

Going beyond first class, Emirates has introduced its own private jet service. Emirates Executive places the world at your fingertips, allowing you and up to 18 other guests to travel in the pinnacle of comfort in a newly customised A319. You can arrange the interior of the jet to create a workspace for meetings, or even include 15 beds for overnight flights. Private jet travel offers a new-found flexibility, and this offering from Emirates can reach destinations within an eight-hour non-stop flight from your chosen departure airport.

SHOULDER

Season

While it sounds like a seasonal fashion trend, ‘shoulder season’ relates to the increasingly popular option of travelling outside of the peak summer months, swapping heaving crowds and high temperatures for something a little more chilled. In fact, according to British Airways, the growth in searches from customers looking to travel in May and June 2024 was double the level for trips in July and August 2024 (compared to the same period in 2023).

MORE TO THE MALDIVES

Three exceptional hotel brands are sailing over to the Maldives, ready to make a splash in 2025 and 2026. Mandarin Oriental Bolidhuffaru plans to redefine luxury hospitality with 120 villas each with private pools and views of the vibrant coral reefs. Located just 15-minutes from Malé Airport, Corinthia Maldives' architecture has taken its inspiration from the gentle curves of the manta ray. Comprising two islands, the smaller isle will be available for exclusive use. And finally, Bulgari Resort Ranfushi is set within 20 hectares of natural beauty and will offer four signature culinary experiences.

WHISPERS OF

The Wild

Discover four of our favourite intimate safari experiences across Southern Africa where you can spot the 'Big Five', sleep under the stars, and enjoy authentic animal encounters.

A Boutique Botswana Lodge

A private island in Botswana’s Okavango Delta, surrounded by a mosaic of other isles netted together by meandering channels: North Island Okavango is an intimate lodge that’s set on a hippo-filled lagoon. Spearheading a new trend of micro-camps, the lodge currently has just four tented suites, ideal for multi-generational families looking for an exclusive stay. Each of the luxury tents are solar-powered and come complete with en suite bathrooms, sunken sun decks, and private pools. Wildlife roams free, from big cats to buffalos, and you can view them from three vantages: on land with expert-led game drives, on water via mokoro and boat trips, or by air with scenic helicopter flights.

NORTH ISLAND OKAVANGO, BOTSWANA

The Ultimate In Experiential Luxury

LONDOLOZI, SOUTH AFRICA

On the banks of the Sand River in Sabi Sands Game Reserve stands Londolozi, a collection of five scenic camps. The location is renowned for its ‘Big Five’ appearances, with herds of elephants, buffalo, and white rhino often spotted. Londolozi also has the highest concentration of lions in Africa, and has worldwide fame for its intimate leopard sightings. It’s the ideal setting for first-time safari rangers to tick off the kings of the animal world. Trekking in the bush aside, it’s the accommodation that truly sets Londolozi apart. The Private Granite Suites (pictured) is our favourite camp, due to its riverside locale that overlooks elephants as they navigate the picturesque waterway.

The colours and curves of Ondulu Ridge seamlessly blend into Damaraland’s rocky landscape. The lodge is within the private concessions of Doro Nawas Reserve, home to elephants, giraffes, and black rhinos. This area rarely sees rainfall meaning the wildlife takes expert guides to track: but that just makes viewing them even more exciting. The modern camp comprises six completely solar-powered suites, each with open air bathrooms and the opportunity to wheel your bed onto the private terrace to sleep under the stars. Ondulu Ridge is a great stopover destination for a multi-centre Namibia trip sandwiched between exploring the Skeleton Coast and Etosha National Park.

ONDULU RIDGE, NAMIBIA

As Mother Nature Intended

TENTED CAMP, SOUTH AFRICA

Tucked into a valley that’s caressed by the Korannaberg Mountains, Loapi Tented Camp is surrounded by endless open savannah. The camp may seem dwarfed by its breathtaking surroundings, but the six individual homes offer everything you need and more; with an on-demand private chef, personal butlers, and rangers ready to whisk you through the Kalahari at times convenient to you. What’s more, children of all ages are welcome too. Loapi Tented Camp is the newest lodge in Tswalu, a conservation project that offers a private safari experience for a maximum of 40 guests across its three camps. One for the avid safari visitor, here you’ll spot a myriad of wildlife, although tracking them may take more patience.

Pretty WomanMEET THE G IN HUNZA G

Read our exclusive interview with Georgiana Huddart, the creative director of female-empowerment, signature crinkle stretch swimwear brand Hunza G; the legacy behind that Julia Roberts dress.

Can you share how you became creative director at Hunza?

After university, I worked for menswear designer Qasimi before relocating to New York to assist fashion editor and stylist Camilla Nickerson. After six months in NYC, I returned to the UK and fell into interiors until Hunza took off around six months after our launch.

When you joined Hunza, what was your main mission? Hunza had been dormant for more than 15 years. My mission was to revamp its '80s heritage by being truly diverse and inclusive. We wanted to create an emotional connection to a positive shopping experience for women, when they often feel at their most vulnerable, by eliminating size trauma. There is no better feeling than the positive customer feedback we get on a daily basis.

Was it easy making a legacy brand your own?

Yes. It was very unusual as Hunza was a heritage brand that people loved and remembered but it had sort of disappeared. We had these legendary icons like Whitney Houston and Julia Roberts from the '80s and early '90s and then... nothing. I knew I wanted to reference our history but also create something new that spoke to a wider variety of women.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

Being curious. I don’t find inspiration from one particular place. I listen to lots of music, read, love interiors and enjoy travelling: it comes from all of these mediums.

How would you describe Hunza G in one sentence?

An iconic, heritage brand that makes women feel amazing and confident.

A one-size-fit swimwear brand is extremely bold and revolutionary. How important is inclusivity to you? It’s the backbone of the brand. When we entered the swimwear space in 2015 I can truly say there wasn’t anyone shooting swim like we did, or using the models we did. The world has since attempted to correct itself and it’s now a more common baseline request for brands. But in 2015 it really wasn’t. We were one of the first and the very first in this category.

Why did you decide to add a matching kids' collection?

I love the matching element. I think kitsch and slightly naff is actually great when it’s done right. I have children and I love co-ordinating with them. I appreciate for some people it’s a bit too matchy-matchy but I think it’s really cute and I always wanted to do it. The product lends itself to kids growing with it, and its super comfy, so it works.

It’s been 40 years of the crinkle. How did you celebrate? We did some amazing trips with friends of the brand. We also did a few throwbacks to our heritage - the Pretty Woman dress is back and selling like crazy. And we launched some entirely new categories.

What's your greatest professional moment?

There have been quite a few that have felt like milestones, but I think having a team of 37 and managing to stay relevant and grow in a time when the world is really struggling, feels like a huge achievement.

Do you feel female designers have more of a voice now? Within brands that are more product-led like Hunza or Charlotte Tilbury then yes, but the creative directors of the big fashion houses are still predominantly male. I think there is still a long way to go.

Let's talk travel. Do you get to holiday much?

I get to travel with work which is incredible, but over the last couple of years I haven’t had many personal holidays. I am definitely hoping to plan a few more in the future.

Do you have a favourite hotel?

I stayed at The Grand Hotel Timeo, A Belmond Hotel in Taormina and thought it was sensational. It was so charming, magical, and luxurious. Hotel Locarno in Rome is also a favourite and on the bucket list is Ritz Paris.

Where did you last go on holiday?

I went to Ibiza with my husband, Gabe. We had the best time. We rented a car and enjoyed visiting the amazing beaches, having long lunches, and playing backgammon for hours in the sun.

What is your go-to swim piece when you're away?

Core Style, I love Pamela in pink. New Style is Tyler in black and white, or the new UPF range we are launching.

If you could pack your bags and travel tomorrow, where would you go and who would you take with you?

I would go to Japan with my favourite person in the world, my husband.

What are your five travel packing essentials?

Sisley moisturiser, NARS lip balm, Prada sunglasses, Helmut Lang jeans, and Alaia flat shoes.

And finally, what’s next for Hunza G?

So many exciting things! They all launch next year so I can’t really reveal yet.

DARREL DAY

Polar expedition leader and Antarctic expedition specialist.

HENRY COMYN

Co-founder and Managing Director at Joro Experiences.

ELISE CIAPPARA

Travel Designer at Joro and serves on the IAATO Yacht Committee. MEET THE

When is the best time to visit Antarctica?

Henry says: “We recommend visiting Antarctica in the Austral summer, between December and February. Each month brings a new dynamic and different experiences.”

How do I travel to Antarctica?

Henry says: “When chartering a superyacht on the Peninsula, fly to King George Island from South America. This has the advantage of skipping the Drake Passage, which can take days and is a notorious stretch of water!”

How long do I need for an Antarctic expedition?

Elise says: “I recommend a minimum 10-day expedition to maximise the investment and your time. If sailing from the Falklands to South Georgia and finishing on the Peninsula, this will increase to a three-week trip.”

Can I explore South America and Antarctica in one trip?

Elise says: “Absolutely! We often 'bookend' an Antarctic expedition with experiences in Patagonia, Argentina, or further into South America. The only limit is your time.”

Is an Antarctica expedition suitable for children?

Elise says: “Yes, however additional staff are needed if you are not bringing a nanny. We have taken children as young as eight to the Peninsula, always sending them home with a new fascination for science and the natural world.”

Why choose a yacht over a cruise ship experience?

Henry says: “The cruise ships that enter Antarctic waters are special, but the service onboard a yacht is unparallelled. It is only by private charter that you are able to enjoy a truly personal experience.”

You’ll spot the ballerinas of the sea and if we are lucky, some orcas

What wildlife can I expect to see on my trip?

Darrel says: “During the Austral summer the Antarctic Peninsula bursts with life. Penguins and seabirds migrate for the breeding season and congregate in large colonies. You're likely to see gentoo penguins, chinstrap penguins and adélie penguins. You'll also spot a variety of seals including the leopard seal resting on an iceberg as well as majestic whales. You’ll find the ballerinas of the sea, the humpback whale, and if we are lucky, some minke whales plus everyone's favourite: orcas.”

Can I camp ashore overnight?

Darrel says: “With prior preparation to your expedition, you can camp a night ashore. This is required so we can apply for the right permit, ensure safety with the right gear, and provide expedition staff for your trip.

Double-height cars encased in glass provide unadulterated views over canyons, crags, and cliffs as you glide through scenery as vast as the lore infused within it.

PRE-DEPARTURE

For something chic, modern, and central, the Fairmont Pacific Rim is an enduringly popular option with heaps of amenities for all. However, if it’s a sense of occasion and an air of 1920s grandeur you’re after, Rosewood Hotel Georgia is certain to start your journey on the right track. Consistently regarded as one of the coastal city’s – if not all of Canada’s – finest hotels, you’ll find yourself ideally placed just a walk to the picturesque Stanley Park and range of restaurants, museums, and art galleries that vie for attention along its fringes.

RAINFOREST TO GOLD RUSH – 2 NIGHTS

What sets the Rocky Mountaineer apart is that all its routes are available in varying formats and, since the train doesn’t operate overnight, passengers disembark each evening for an included stay in a luxury hotel. Each is also awash with cinematic beauty, and as the train guides you through the mountainous terrain between Vancouver and Jasper, by way of Whistler’s mountains and Quesnel’s tranquil river valleys, you can’t help but be enthralled. Head straight from point A to B, linger on along the way, or tack on another route.

The Stream

Our handy travel guide shares where you should eat, stay, yacht, and play in

Floating solo in the Mediterranean, the island of Sardinia is separated from Italy in more ways than one. Its dialect, culture, and geography are each distinct from its mainland counterpart. However, food is one love language that 'the boot' and ‘the small continent’ both share.

Eating in Sardinia is an experience; at all meal times. Each mouthful is rich in flavour and the focus is on freshness - from the ingredients down to the setting. When visiting the island, you’ll never struggle to find an authentic trattoria that serves delicious cuisine made from recipes which have been passed down for generations. From suckling pig to handmade ravioli stuffed with spinach and ricotta, most dishes are drizzled in liquid gold - hand-pressed olive oil - to offer a world of flavours that’ll soothe your soul.

But what about those times when a meal is more than just that? When you’re marking a milestone or looking for a special restaurant to celebrate your time in paradise? On the seaside resort of Porto Cervo on the Costa Smeralda coast, Zuma provides top-tier Japanese cuisine while Novikov offers a small menu of Asian favourites. Sample Sardinian specialties alongside Mediterranean tapas at La Terrazze Ritual, a rooftop restaurant and bar located in the ruins of a centuries-old castle. For timeless charm and superb seafood, Il Pescatore Restaurant located in the port is an exceptional spot for lazy lunches and delicious dinners - the saffron lobster is a favourite of the head chef. And finally, Italo Bassi’s Confusion Restaurant is the only way to celebrate a special occasion. Boasting a Michelin star, your taste buds will dance with each mouthful.

Sardinia.

STAY

Sardinia is more than just the jet-setter town of Costa Smeralda... but basing yourself here isn’t a bad idea. Romazzino, A Belmond Hotel, is set on an idyllic corner of the coast, presenting a private beach and endless views of the emerald-green sea. It's well located for a host of activities, our favourite has to be hiring one of the hotel’s Fiat 500s to explore Sardinia at your leisure. Similarly, Hotel Cala di Volpe, a Luxury Collection Hotel is stretched across a scenic bay. At the resort’s centre is an expansive saltwater pool which has had a Dolce & Gabbana makeover in recent seasons. For the ultimate R&R, visit the Shiseido spa, or soak up the sun with a round of 18 at Pevero Golf Club.

A great way to truly appreciate Sardinia’s beauty is from the water and chartering a yacht can be the perfect addition to your holiday. Explore the island’s coast, discovering hidden coves and secluded beaches while mooring at vibrant marinas and enjoying some world-class beach clubs. For families, and those new to boating, a day trip is the perfect way to tip-toe into the waters. However, to truly soak up all that Sardinia’s topaz waves have to offer we recommend an overnight charter. Those with stronger sea legs could enjoy a seven-day tour of the Italian islands.

With its chic restaurants and cafés, the charming harbour of Portisco is the ideal place to begin your charter. We recommend a leisurely sail to the stunning Maddalena Archipelago, a group of islands between Sardinia and Corsica, one of Italy’s best-kept secrets. Here you will find untouched bays and creeks, white sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters, ideal for snorkelling and swimming. Nearby are a range of other islands, but if you want to keep your venture short and sweet, head back to Sardinia's coast where a feast of fresh seafood is waiting in one of many beachfront restaurants. Or, take advantage of the experienced crew and enjoy a personalised meal on board with only the ocean for company.

PLAY

We’ve already mentioned dining on delicious cuisine, taking on the challenge of Pevero Golf Club, chartering a yacht and touring the island in a Fiat 500 (other cars are available) … and yet we haven’t even scratched the surface on what else there is to do on this beautiful Italian isle.

Rich in Bronze Age and Roman archaeology, there are plenty of ancient gems just waiting to dazzle history buffs. Scattered across the island, you’re bound to stumble across something mysterious during your stay. However, there are many fascinating sites in the capital Cagliari.

Alternatively, take to the water to spot dolphins, try paddleboarding, or enjoy a scenic boat trip to Neptune’s Grotto near Alghero. This scenic cave stretches for 4km and contains illuminated,

cathedral-like chambers adorned with towering stalagmites and mesmerising stalactites. Other caves include Bue Marino Caves on the east coast and the inland Su Marmuri Cave near Ulassai. Don't forget to wear sensible shoes!

Exploring the island with a car is the best way to see its highlights… no plan or route required. Each coastal road will enchant with its small gelaterias, artisanal boutiques – pick up a handloomed basket and thank us later – and hiking trails. Venture skywards to truly appreciate Sardinia’s beauty, and after a morning espresso or two, a sunrise hike has the potential to be a holiday highlight. But of course, the best thing about Sardinia is its welcoming locals and laid-back atmosphere allowing you to holiday at your own pace. You have to visit to truly understand.

TOP TIPS FOR Teen Trips

While little ones are happy with a kids' club and splash park, harmonious holidays with your teenagers require more imagination. Thankfully, Personal Travel Manager Jack Stean has compiled a list of destinations to keep those aged 12 to 17 feeling inspired, included, and excited by the world at their feet.

SOUTH KOREA • FOR TECH ENTHUSIASTS

Perhaps unconventional, South Korea is an option worth considering if you want to introduce your young adults to new cultures. The country’s capital, Seoul, is an electric entanglement alive with entertainment and technology. Surprisingly, it is also considered more family-friendly than Japan’s capital, Tokyo. Teens can immerse themselves in the K-pop scene, visit high-tech design hubs, and explore trendy shopping streets such as Myeongdong, refuelling on famous Korean fried chicken. Then, escape the city in favour of outdoor activities in Busan, or head to spectacular Jeju Island for a few days by the beach.

STAY: The Shilla Seoul

MONTRÉAL • FOR BUDDING LINGUISTS

Montréal is among Canada’s coolest cities, distinguished as a cultural melting pot at the heart of Quebec’s untamed beauty. A French-speaking enclave, it offers those studying the language a chance to brush up ahead of exams, while the acclaimed Science Centre provides an illuminating afternoon for all. There will of course be plenty of opportunities to get outside and experience what Canada is all about; biking, ziplining, sailing, and skiing your way around. Hike up Parc du Mont-Royal to the panoramic viewpoint. Or, find common ground over a thrilling ice hockey match in its original home.

STAY: Four Seasons Hotel Montréal

Introduce your young adults to new cultures

ALBANIA • FOR BEACH-LOVERS

We’re always on the lookout for the best up-and-coming destinations – and if you’ve been anywhere near social media recently, you’ll have seen the alabaster shorelines of Albania touted as the ‘Maldives of Europe’. We’d be inclined to agree, and it seems many leading luxury hotel groups do too as the clutch of exclusive accommodations grows in number along the Albanian Riviera. Kissed by the turquoise Adriatic, Durrës is a European beach destination of the highest order. Meanwhile, a sprinkling of ancient Roman ruins – including the impressive Durrës Amphitheatre – presents opportunities for deeper enrichment for teens keen on archaeology and history.

STAY: Meliá Durrës Albania

Modern and alluring, this high-spec hotel offers everything needed to keep teens entertained, including a state-of-the-art gym and plenty of activities, whilst also being conveniently located for reaching the main town.

VIETNAM • FOR YOUNG FOODIES

Spiced broths that speak to the soul, summer rolls delicate as dew-covered blossom, and noodle dishes that fuel fast-paced cities as they do the rhythms of the jade green countryside: Vietnamese cuisine is one of the world’s most rewarding. Budding culinary enthusiasts will deepen their passion on a trip to this bubbly Southeast Asian nation, savouring French-influenced fare in lantern festooned Hoi An and slurping Bún bò (noodle soup) in Hue – all while being treated to a side of beaches and swoon-worthy bays. Of course, there is also a captivating history to pick over, and a concoction of culture backdropped by wild beauty to finish.

STAY: Anantara Hoi An Resort

As well as a prime riverside spot in pretty Hoi An and a definitively Southeast Asian aesthetic, this low-rise hotel also offers cooking classes, during which would-be chefs will gain an appreciation for local flavours.

Which Sani Resort

IS RIGHT FOR ME?

Within a sprawling beachfront property, Sani Resort includes five distinct hotels wherein the idea of ‘something for everyone’ takes on new life: as a promise, not a platitude. But which one is right for you? From intimate couples’ retreats to the setting for memorable family holidays, see which Sani suits you.

SANI BEACH

Lying at the heart of the resort, Sani Beach is the largest of the five hotels and enjoys a range of amenities that lend particularly well to families, especially those with young children. It boasts not one but two private Blue Flag beaches (with complimentary 30-minute ‘Babewatch’ service) as well as a splash park designed specifically for little ones. Meanwhile, the various kids’ clubs and sporting academies, plus other reliable babysitting services, ensure you can enjoy some grown-up time, guilt-free. Rooms and suites offer everything you could need for a restful stay – including a dedicated ‘sleep whisperer’ whose role is to help infants up to the age of two adjust to a new environment and drift off to the land of nod (and stay there a little longer in the morning). When you do feel like getting out, however, the entertainment arena is only a five-minute walk away. Sani Resort is known for its stellar dining, and with varied childrens' menus and freshly-made purées available, this applies to even the littlest of palates.

SANI DUNES

Sani Dunes is often considered the best option for couples. It offers a sophisticated, adult-focused atmosphere with stylish accommodations and direct beach access alongside a seriously luxurious spa, fine dining options, and a serene atmosphere befitting a couples’ escape. If you can tear your eyes away from one another, feast them on the uninterrupted views of the private beach and twinkling waters beyond, perhaps taking a leisurely stroll to the nearby marina for sunset vistas and romantic vibes. There’s even a stylish adults-only pool where you can sun yourself sans toddler tantrums or errant pool noodles. Stepping inside your accommodation, you will find it to be chic and airy, characterised by neutral tones and natural light (though blackout curtains keep you cosily cocooned for those late morning lie-ins). Many suite options have their own private pools and gardens too, so you needn’t leave the love nest if you don’t fancy it.

The resort’s focus on wellness, combined with its beautiful accommodations, makes Porto Sani a sanctuary in the truest sense and the place to go to switch off.

OUR TOP Destination Dupes

'Destination duping’ – the decision to trade a familiar favourite for a similar but novel option – emerges as this year’s top travel trend as people endeavour to experience something new, escape overcrowding, or simply keep up with (or, outdo) the Joneses on their travels. Here are some of our smartest swaps that encompass the activities, beauty, and cultural richness you love about the original, while offering a fresh take for your family.

SWAP ZERMATT FOR NISEKO

While the quintessential European ski trip has been an institution for a century, intrepid enthusiasts are looking further afield in hopes of combining their love of the slopes with memorable landscapes and unique cultural experiences. Niseko, Japan’s premier ski spot, fits this brief exactly: offering remarkable powder snow and a range of inclines as well as a captivating window into traditional Japanese practices. Take in the scenery, delicately painted on the horizon like watercolours on a scroll, before sinking into an onsen hot spring or a steaming bowl of ramen.

STAY: Higashiyama Niseko Village, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve

SWAP CROATIA FOR MONTENEGRO

Croatia burst onto the scene around a decade ago, cementing itself as the cool new European kid on the block with cinematic coastlines replete with gin-clear shallows, and storybook towns aplenty. Those who love the country’s eclectic allure, including its delicious fusion cuisine and diverse scenery, will be captivated by Montenegro’s more intimate alternative while enjoying thinner crowds and a family-friendly pace. The small Balkan nation nestled on the Adriatic coast has also seen a slew of luxury hotels open along its shores in recent years, so you’ll have no shortage of sleek places to stay.

STAY: One&Only Portonovi

SWAP PHUKET FOR KOH KOOD

We’re not ones to judge, but if you don’t like Thailand, we have questions. Known for its incredibly warm hospitality, irresistible cuisine, and icing-sugar sands lapped by twinkling turquoise waters – not to mention marvellously mad metropolises that keep a part of your heart when you leave – the Land of Smiles is always a good idea. Families who fancy a less frenetic tempo, quieter beaches, and empty stretches of road opening into Jurassic landscapes should head to Koh Kood instead of the ever-popular Phuket, where your beach bungalow lies just feet from the water and servers know you by name.

STAY: Soneva Kiri

SWAP MYKONOS FOR PAROS

Whitewashed structures that tumble like sugar cubes into cerulean seas, quaint tavernas where lilting folk music drifts on a salty breeze, and sunset vistas that reach through the horizon into infinity: there is nowhere quite like Greece – and it’s little wonder that it’s universally beloved. Recent years, however, have seen once sleepy islands mobbed by tourist throngs, making some of the best things about them harder to enjoy. Swap Mykonos' boisterous beach clubs for the easy charm of Paros, where sweet villages and mythical coves welcome your family to enjoy a more authentically Greek experience.

STAY: Cove Paros

SWAP THE CANARY ISLANDS FOR MADEIRA

If exceptional topography and the laid-back drumbeat of island life spell ‘holiday’ to you, Madeira’s siren song will soon lure you in. Not far from the Canaries but bobbing somewhat more remotely in the Atlantic, equidistant literally and culturally between Portugal and North Africa, expect a kaleidoscopic riot of colour. While the landscapes of Lanzarote and the like are positively lunar, Madeira is verdant: more reminiscent of the Land before Time than the moon landing. Meanwhile, the eccentric capital, Funchal, sits at the island’s southernmost tip, promising a blend of influences found only along these cobbled streets.

STAY: Reid's Palace, A Belmond Hotel, Madeira

PROPOSALS AND ELOPEMENTS

Love In The Luxe Lane

The trend of elaborate proposals in the world’s most romantic locations has been steadily climbing, but now intimate elopements seem to be on the rise, too. We explore some of the best destinations to pop the question or say ‘I do’, handpicked by our expert personal travel managers.

MALDIVES, INDIAN OCEAN

A white sand beach and endless blue horizon that’s peppered by a handful of swaying palm trees and bungalows above the twinkling Indian Ocean: a postcard setting is guaranteed on one of the Maldives’ private islands. Hidden corners make for the perfect proposal spots but can also host serene wedding ceremonies. Although you cannot legally marry in the Maldives, the symbolic blessings are just as beautiful which is why this archipelago is also popular for vow renewals. Anantara Dhigu Maldives Resort offers an excellent setting for proclaiming your love... on the resort's sugar sand under a canopied faree tent. We recommend ending your day with a private candlelit dinner on the beach and then start your honeymoon in style on board a luxury yacht surrounded by spinner dolphins playing in the waves.

AMALFI COAST, ITALY

Italy is a great location for taking your vows, and the dramatic cliff setting on the Amalfi Coast takes some beating. The small village of Positano is ideal for intimate weddings while the pretty setting of Ravello has venues which provide 360° views of the coast. What’s more, weddings in Italy are legally recognised for UK residents, so there’s no need to visit the registry office first. And when it comes to proposing, the possibilities are endless. How about onboard a classic Italian Gozzo while touring the Tyrrhenian Sea? Or on the balcony of your private suite overlooking Sorrento’s marina? When it comes to your hotel stay, there are so many stunning resorts so our advice is to try them all! Le Sirenuse is an icon on Positano's cliffs. Caruso, A Belmond Hotel is fantastic when in Amalfi. And if you hop over to Capri, check in to Jumeirah Capri Palace.

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA

The marriage capital of the world, Las Vegas has ample choice of chapels, hotels, and quirky locations that are ideal for an elopement. The most famous is, of course, The Little White Wedding Chapel where an Elvis minister or saying ‘I do’ in a pink Cadillac are possible. However, you could choose to marry your love with a backdrop of vintage neon signs at The Neon Museum, amongst breathtaking red sandstone formations in the Valley of Fire State Park or on a balcony at The Bellagio with the fountains dancing behind you. Alternatively, head skyward and take your vows in a helicopter over the Grand Canyon or Las Vegas strip. If you can dream it, Vegas can probably make it happen. After exchanging rings, enjoy dinner and a show at The Mayfair Supper Club or go celeb-spotting at Delilah inside The Wynn.

SANTORINI, GREECE

Santorini’s sunsets cast a magical spell across the island; one that will be etched in your memory forever if that’s also the precise moment you propose or kiss your new bride or groom. And the best part is that the striking red and orange hues can be viewed from so many scenic spots across the island. However, these places are just as magical under the allure of the night sky as they are under the setting sun. Some of our top recommendations include Amoudi Bay, anywhere along the popular six-mile hike from Fira to Oia, Red Beach, and for the super adventurous, Skaros Rock. For your Santorini stay, we love Nobu Hotel, and also Cavo Tagoo Santorini. It’s worth noting that in order to legally marry in Greece you must publish your intent to marry in the local newspaper or at the town hall prior to your nuptials.

LAKE TEKAPO, NEW ZEALAND

Wedged between Queenstown and Christchurch, Lake Tekapo is a place for all seasons. During the Southern Hemisphere’s early summer months, the lake is edged by a blanket of pink and purple lupins which offers a stunning backdrop for going down on one knee. For more adventurous couples, visit outside of summer where the night sky is so clear you can see the Milky Way, the southern lights or Aurora Australis. Similarly, this is a perfect location for pledging your love for one another. Whether that’s in the colder months to a backdrop of snow-capped peaks, or within the flora come summer; just keep everything crossed for dry skies. There's also a small church on the edge of the lake named Church of the Good Shepherd which is a popular choice for wedding ceremonies. Then, enjoy your first night in wedded bliss at one of Lake Tekapo's boutique hotels, each unique and embracing their lakeside setting

Destination Proposal

Personal Travel Manager Michelle Martin shares what she has learned from helping organise her client’s destination proposals.

HIRE A PHOTOGRAPHER

Organise for a professional to be out of sight and ready to capture your special moment for memories to last a lifetime.

PREP YOUR PARTNER

Let your partner believe you’re off for a romantic meal so they’re appropriately dressed for the occasion.

A POST-PROPOSAL CELEBRATION

Don’t forget to plan dinner, drinks or an out-of-the-box experience to celebrate your first outing as fiancés.

MAKE IT PERSONAL

Whether that’s in the ring choice, your words, or the location, your proposal needs to be significant and authentic to the both of you.

TIMING IS EVERYTHING

I suggest popping the question early on in your trip so you get the rest of your holiday to celebrate in your engagement bubble.

AWAY FROM The Ordinary

Move over glamping and make way for your slightly sturdier cousin: the self-contained pod-style accommodations that we’re seeing pop up everywhere from Middle Eastern deserts to the depths of Antarctica’s wilderness. Swapping flimsy canvas for glass domes, camp beds for plush king sizes, these bubble-like formations aim to make as little impact on their surroundings as possible, acting like miniature observatories in some of the world’s most spectacular locales. Naturally, all hotels featured in this list come with the ultra-luxe additions and seamless service that ramp up the comfort to the level of a five-star hotel in miniature. For an immersive, memorable escape: we pod.

SKYLODGE ADVENTURE SUITES, PERU

Calling adventurers, and those with a head for heights. If you’re looking for a once-in-a-lifetime travel experience that seriously pushes the boundaries, these transparent pods hanging from the cliffs of Peru's Sacred Valley should do the trick. Accessible only by zipline or via ferrata, these remarkably high-end accommodations provide breathtaking views and an unparalleled connection to nature. Each specially designed suite is equipped with comfortable beds, a dining area, and private bathroom while daily gourmet dinners and breakfasts are served with a side of jaw-dropping mountain vistas.

AMANGIRI, UTAH, USA

Less ‘pod’ and more subterranean Bond villain lair, these sleek structures slip into, around, and beneath the mesmerising rock formations of Utah's Canyon Country. Wide, open spaces and seemingly endless views are the order of the day here, with minimal intrusion from the outside world being central to the resort’s overarching feeling of calm, making it a popular choice for those in need of a digital detox. Meanwhile, an inviting free-form pool and neutral tones add to the sense that it was all just carved into the landscape. Gaze out over the prehistoric mesas while utilising the amenities and indulging in dining which, in true Aman style, is nothing short of exquisite.

91 ATHENS RIVIERA BY DOMES, GREECE

Europe’s high society have sunned themselves on the glittering shores of the Athenian Riviera for millennia, and recent years have seen it enjoy a tantalising return to its previous vitality. This newly opened resort captures the essence of barefoot luxury with nature-inspired pods that peer between ancient olive trees and native shrubbery, their ridged tops giving the impression of a resting tortoise. Meanwhile, the private beach complete with swanky club, waterside dining, and laid-back hedonism of the place provide the makings of a quintessential coastal stay – all within easy reach of the vibrant cosmopolitanism of Athens.

ECHO CAMP, WHITE DESERT, ANTARCTICA

Employing much of the same tech used to send astronauts beyond the stratosphere, these space-age pods look as if they could have been plucked from the lunar landscape. The otherworldly camp features just six cutting-edge, eco-friendly Sky Pods available for exclusive use, each featuring floor-to-ceiling windows with stunning views of the icy wilderness that sprawls in all directions around you. The terrain might be alien, but the gourmet cuisine, dedicated concierge, and sumptuous furnishings will be familiar to luxury travellers while the unforgettable experiences elevate your stay to the extraordinary.

WADI RUM BUBBLE LUXOTEL, JORDAN

Speaking of Martian landscapes… Rising like a mirage from Jordan's magnificent Wadi Rum, these incongruous bubbles are bursting with mod-cons. Climate-controlled, you’ll find yourself shielded from the intensity of the desert conditions, while being enveloped in the technicolour glory of your surroundings. Each pod offers its own private terrace with a Jacuzzi, so you needn’t leave your base to appreciate wraparound vistas. Think craggy outcrops casting lengthening shadows on dunes that shift between hues of fiery orange and deep terracotta. If you do leave, desert safaris and starlit dining await.

WILDERNESS BISATE, RWANDA

Tucked amid the steamy foliage of Rwanda's Volcanoes National Park, Wilderness Bisate offers an extraordinary eco-luxury experience. The lodge features six spacious, en suite forest villas that fuse contemporary comfort and traditional Rwandan style, boasting private decks and even fireplaces. Deeply committed to sustainability, with a focus on reforestation and community involvement, you’ll have the chance to take part in activities such as gorilla trekking, guided nature walks, and cultural experiences with the local community, all while being encased by the beauty of the surrounding Afro-alpine forests.

NAVIVA, A FOUR SEASONS RESORT, PUNTA MITA, MÉXICO

Looking out over the lush Central American jungle to the Pacific Ocean beyond, this adults-only retreat is positioned between land and sea; tree top and forest floor; heaven and earth. It features 15 pods with open sides, finished with tactile wooden accents that further blur the lines between inside and out, while your private plunge pool provides welcome refreshment from the balmy tropical warmth. Sustainably minded and fostering a connection to this exceptional eco-system, Naviva provides an intimate, transformative escape, while its grown-up sensibilities set the scene for romance.

WINGED BOOTS RECOMMENDS

“With moody interiors and aquamarine plunge pools that jut out into the treetops, Capella Ubud is one of Bali's most photogenic accommodation options. All of the self-contained suites have each been cleverly embedded into the hillside to allow for unobstructed views.”

TRAVEL Transformative

Four wellness trips to help busy professionals unwind.

THE WELLNESS RETREAT • SHA WELLNESS

The idea of ‘wellness’ has moved outside our daily rituals and into our travel plans as many reevaluate what a holiday means to them. The best wellness retreats balance tailored therapies, indulgent spa treatments, and body-nourishing cuisine to provide guests with a holistic, health-promoting experience. One of the most successful examples of this is SHA Wellness, whose stunning portfolio of properties in Spain, Mexico, and soon the UAE seamlessly combines genuinely beneficial programmes with luxury holiday elements. Think chic rooms, stylish pool areas, and first-class dining.

THE SPIRITUAL RESET • ANANDA IN THE HIMALAYAS

These spiritually minded stays encourage participants to disconnect from outside stressors and engage in contemplative practices to increase self-awareness and foster personal growth. Surrounded by Sal forests, the environment of Ananda in the Himalayas inspires both inner calm and awe-struck wonder. One of the world’s top holistic wellness retreats, it combines Ayurveda, yoga, traditional Eastern medicine, and other ancient and modern healing modalities to restore balance and leave your mind, body, and soul feeling transformed.

WHAT IS TRANSFORMATIVE TRAVEL?

All travel has the power to be transformative. However, these variations specifically focus on addressing and influencing a particular aspect of your life: be that your fitness, overall health, or a sense of spiritual balance.

THE FITNESS BOOTCAMP • CHIVA-SOM

In contrast, fitness-focussed stays up the tempo as expert trainers put you through your paces to get you feeling invigorated and empowered to reach your goals. Thailand’s world-renowned Chiva-Som is a prime example, offering a comprehensive programme of daily classes that includes everything from mat Pilates to metabolic breathwork and exhilarating Muay Thai boxing to cater to a range of ability levels. This is alongside a studied evaluation of your individual body’s composition and nutritional needs for an all-encompassing approach that packs a punch (no pun intended).

THE HEALTH MOT • PALAZZO FIUGGI

Health truly is wealth, and we often don’t realise this until our own takes a knock. As people seek to take charge of their wellbeing, a clutch of exclusive facilities with a distinctly medical concept at their core have sprung up. Chief among them is Palazzo Fiuggi just outside of Rome. Its ethos of ‘a longer life, better lived’ plays out against the restorative backdrop of Italian countryside, where skilled professionals use cutting edge technology to evaluate your body, medical history, and other lifestyle factors to deliver highly specialised care and advice.

REVIEW

David Ox, Winged Boots' MD shares his experience at SIRO One Za'abeel

“I was invited to stay at SIRO One Za'abeel: a new fitness and recovery-focused brand that opened its doors in Dubai in February 2024.

"We dove right in with a HIIT class crafted by the training team at AC Milan that left us on a high, if a little out of breath. If group workouts aren’t your thing, the rooms have their own exercise equipment so you can work up a sweat in your own time.

“Though there is an emphasis on challenging yourself physically, it’s not all burpees... and the food is far from joyless steamed veggies. Opt for a customised dietary programme or explore the 11 restaurants located within The Link: the futuristic boulevard that connects One Za’abeel's two towers.

“There was also some time for R&R and I found myself cocooned in a sci-fi green tube a.k.a the Triple Detox by MLX i³Dome. Designed by NASA to help astronauts to reacclimatise after a stint in space, surely it could reverse my coffee addiction?

“I would highly recommend SIRO to anyone looking for a health reset or to prioritise their fitness and recovery for a few days.”

Bottles & Bravado MEET LONDON’S TOP NIGHTLIFE ENTREPRENEUR

A titan of the hospitality industry, nightlife entrepreneur Asher Grant talked to us about Mayfair’s newest festive dining restaurant PIRANA, his travel bucket list and who he really believes built the pyramids.

What led you to a career in hospitality?

My career began accidentally. I was spraying perfumes in Harrods when a friend suggested working as a nightclub promoter. It sounded fun and I made more money that night than I had in a month spritzing fragrances. I slowly climbed the hospitality ladder from there.

What inspired you to open The London REIGN?

I borrowed ideas from America and thought this would really take off in our capital. At the time everyone told me ‘London's too cool for all of this stuff’ but I kept strong believing everyone loves having their name in lights.

Can you summarise each of your venues in a sentence? The London REIGN is like a big Vegas or Miami-style

venue. It's all about entertainment and living to the excess. TABU LDN is in the building which used to be Mahiki - a really famous club in the 2000s - and has a Tokyo underground street party vibe. It couldn't be more opposite to REIGN by design. Then PIRANA is a very vibey, very sexy, very energetic restaurant with phenomenal food. It’s the kind of place to celebrate anything and everything.

PIRANA has been labelled a festive dining experience. Can you explain what this means?

Festive dining is where you start by having dinner and then slowly as the night progresses the music and the energy changes and you end up dancing on your table. It's definitely not a nightclub but it's also not just a normal

I kept strong believing everyone loves having their name in lights

restaurant. And that is exactly what we have created at PIRANA London. When you book, you’re there for the whole night and you're there to have fun.

Where do you find your inspiration?

This category of hospitality has expanded massively across the world and in every city other than London. No two markets are exactly the same, but humans are the same; and if they like dancing on tables in Vegas, they'd probably like dancing on tables in London.

TABU Mykonos opened in 2022. Would you like to see PIRANA go international?

I think PIRANA will be the brand that goes the most international and it will lend itself to beach clubs as well as traditional restaurants in other territories. We’re really excited about its future.

And where would be your dream location?

Saint-Tropez would be the Holy Grail because it has so much legacy and history. Our clients frequent Saint-Tropez a lot and I think it'd be a really exciting challenge for us.

Do you enjoy travelling?

I love travelling. I'm newly married and would say that my love language is travel. I think we're so lucky to live on this planet and I am forever blown away by its beauty. You've got the Alps, the rainforests in Brazil, the endless oceans… there's so much variety and I can't believe we only get 100 years (if we’re lucky) to try and see it all. When my wife and I are planning a trip, it’s always a challenge of striking the balance between going to places that we've visited before and we love, with trying somewhere new. I learnt to fly helicopters last year, and it's completely changed

my life. Now, every time we go away, we'll try and get a flying day in as well. You can be in the most remote places very quickly and it adds a whole new dynamic to your travel experience.

What's your favourite holiday destination?

We’ve really fallen in love with Cape Town in recent years; namely the mix of the people and the breathtaking scenery.

Where was your last holiday to?

We just got back from Lake Como. We stayed at Passalacqua, which was voted the number one hotel in the world last year. We got married the year before in Villa Balbiano, which is just up the lake, and stayed in the Grand Hotel Tremezzo.

If you could pack your bags and holiday tomorrow, where would you go?

I’ve never been to Brazil, so if I could just click my fingers that would be my top pick. Or, the total opposite, but I'd love to go to the Antarctic.

Is there anywhere on your travel bucket list?

South America and New Zealand.

If you could host an evening in PIRANA with five celebrities dead or alive, who would you invite? First is Tutankhamun. I'm convinced that aliens built the pyramids so I’d invite him to get all the sauce. It'd be great to have Einstein, and then to add some politics I’d invite J.F. Kennedy. Which means you probably need a movie star… Tom Cruise, because he and I could talk about helicopters and motorbikes. And finally Richard Branson. He looks like he's got the work-life balance spot on.

Why do you book your holidays through Winged Boots?

From start to finish, the level of service was next level. From the moment we landed to the second we left it felt like there was a VVIP mark next to our name.

Would you recommend Winged Boots to your friends and family?

Unanimously. If you want to travel in luxury with absolute peace of mind there shouldn't be another thought.

It’s lovely to spend time with them in a great setting, hear about their families and businesses; and also introduce them to like-minded customers. Winged Boots is built on referrals, so if we can help facilitate some introductions and help grow our customers’ businesses at the same time, then that’s just a win-win.”

Annual Patron’s Lunch

SPONSORED BY CORINTHIA HOTELS, WE CELEBRATED OUR TOP CLIENTS IN STYLE

Winged Boots is built on referrals, and we value each and every recommendation. Last December, we hosted some of our clients who had made the most recommendations over the year, and also gifted our top three with a complimentary dinner or night’s stay at Corinthia London.

Guests enjoyed a delicious lunch in Sexy Fish’s private dining room in Mayfair, complete with a variety of delicious seafood dishes from wagyu gunkan sushi to caramelised black cod. Entertainment from comedian Bobby Davro and musical duo Ozzy&Stix kept the afternoon filled with laughter, cheering and some great conversation.

Guest and client Sandro Forte said: “How many businesses recognise and reward customer loyalty these days? Not many, but Winged Boots do! And they do it brilliantly too; relaxed, fun and always the highlight of my year.”

If you’d like to attend our next event, check out our refer a friend scheme where you’ll also receive a £200 voucher per referral.

Shoot Day 2024

BY

ONE&ONLY, ATLANTIS AND OVERFINCH, THE DAY WAS IN AID OF HAVEN HOUSE CHILDREN’S HOSPICE

Partnering with Maddox Gallery, we held another successful clay pigeon shoot day at the prestigious Purdey’s Royal Berkshire Shooting School in June.

After lining their stomachs with breakfast, the teams showcased their varying levels of shooting skills. “The Good, the Bad, and the Arty” emerged victorious, with Daniel Ox, Co-CEO of Ocean Holidays taking the crown as the overall best shot of the day.

Afterwards, guests were treated to a Champagne and cocktail reception, followed by a delicious three-course meal, speeches and a raffle. Those wanting to continue celebrating their win (or drown their sorrows) then headed to The Swan at Streatley for a sophisticated soirée, lapping up the last few hours of summer sunshine and indulging in a few more pints.

Of course, the highlight of the day was raising £13,700 for Haven House Children’s Hospice which helped us exceed a mammoth milestone of more than £100,000 raised for the charity to date.

Atlantis The Royal Cup 2024

SPONSORED BY ATLANTIS THE ROYAL DUBAI AND MAZAGAN BEACH & GOLF RESORT

In July, we hosted the Winged Boots Atlantis The Royal Cup golf tournament at the prestigious Sunningdale Golf Club in Surrey. With 72 guests in attendance, the day unfolded under glorious skies, perfect for a round of friendly (fiercely competitive) golf.

The tournament kicked off with players split into Team White, led by Managing Director David Ox, and Team Blue, captained by client Barry Hearn OBE. To raise the stakes, we introduced a ‘Beat The Pro’ challenge, with Sophie from Kerzner International daring golfers to outshine her shot and get closer to the pin, all for the chance to win a two-night stay at Mazagan Beach & Golf Resort.

After a day filled with a healthy dose of friendly rivalry, it was Barry’s team that ultimately claimed victory and were awarded the Best Team trophy. Stefan Dockx-Xavier was crowned best overall golfer and had the honour of wearing our signature ‘green jacket’ – a nod to the legendary US Masters tradition!

Guest David Evans said: “What an amazing day. Your hospitality knows no bounds and it was a privilege to be a part of it all.”

AN UNFORGETTABLE KENYAN SAFARI

7 NIGHTS, NAIROBI AND MAASAI MARA

Begin your Kenyan adventure with two nights at the wonderful Giraffe Manor, where you’ll share your stay – and most probably your breakfast – with a herd of long-necked beauties. This boutique resort in Nairobi is committed to the conservation of giraffes and during your stay you’ll be able to interact with them while discovering more on how the property ensures their conservation. From Giraffe Manor, you can take a day trip to Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, the most successful orphan elephant rescue and rehabilitation programme in the world.

You’ll then leave the capital via light aircraft and fly to Maasai Mara where Little Governor’s Camp will be your base for five nights. Welcoming children of all ages, daily jeep safaris are included, offering you access to multiple terrains that are home to a range of wildlife. However, to really take in the beauty of your surroundings, we recommend a hot air balloon flight over the region. Departing as dawn breaks, embark on a wildlife viewing adventure from a new perspective. Then it's back down to earth, where you can explore the bush on a walking safari. Plus, if you visit between May and October, you may have a front row seat to The Great Migration.
