Week 1 & 2: Multiview Drawing Plan / Elevation (Favourite Building)

We took a photo of my favourite building. Using Google Earth measured the length of the building. Then, using architect’s scale to draw the ground floor plan, roof plan and 2 elevation

Side 7

Ground Floor Plan Strengths:

Drawing my favourite building helped me understand how to draw plans by using architect’s scale.

Weaknesses:

Drawing the plans took me a lot of time to do it. Since it was my first time to use architect’s scale.

8

Opportunities:

With proper arrangements, i could see the structure of regular buildings and the design of buildings from plans.

Risks:

If the building was too big. It needed to use more than one graph paper to finish it. It may lose the paper easily.

Week 3: Tiny House Plan + Taping Exercise

Tiny House Ground Floor Plan - Taping After we designed the shape of tiny house and interior design with group mates, we used blue tape to tape our tiny house in real side (1:1).

Tiny House Ground Floor Plan - Drawing

9

Section (Taping)

Strengths:

Opportunities:

I was able to make my tiny house look large and have unique shape of building. A dome window is the most special place in this tiny house.

Maybe in the future, I will design the tiny house with second floor. The bed will be on second floor and the study table will be under the bed.

Weaknesses: I’m not sure I was able to determine that i have enough space for working or study without any study room or table.

10

Section (drawing)

Risks: There are big glass from the dome window. It makes the house become less privacy because people can see inside the house.

Strengths:

Opportunities:

Weakness:

Risks:

Making different shape of cube can help me gain more creative. Also, I learn how to use components and I know how to make a cube without copying the same section again and again. I often forgot to double click a component so only one component moved, but not all the components. Therefore, this problem made me do the cubes again.

If I have another chance to do this in the future, I would try to use the same skill to do not only cube shape, but only others different shapes, such as circle or heart shapes. If I do it differently, I may need more time to finish one cube and the work will be more complicated.

15

Week 4: SketchUp Array Tools-Trellis

16

Front 17

Strengths: I have the ability to group different parts and pieces together and create more different kind of funny cube.

Weaknesses: I often forgot what tools should i use, so i take a long time to figure them out.

18

Opportunities:

I would like to try to do more complex building component and create more vary shape by using that skills.

Risks:

If there are too many components groups, it is easy to mix up with others.

Week 5: SketchUp Patterns and Material Diagonal

1*2 Tiles

Checker

Stripe

Hex

Diamond

19

Strengths:

I learned how to create different kind of patterns.

Weaknesses:

Diamond and hex took me a lot of time to finish them because i can’t get the same number of square as the simple at first.

Opportunities:

I would like to try using those patterns outside or inside the building.

Risks:

If i do differently, the patterns may not be equal to the others.

20

Week 5-8 Individual Tiny House Project

21

22

Narrative: This is my “Garden House. 1. I made a roof garden. Since people usually work or study under pressure, planting flowers and plants may help them to release their pressure and feel relaxed. 2.

I focused on the brightness of the house. I made one more dome on the roof and made the windows become bigger in order to getting more light into the house. Therefore, we did not need to turn on too many lights and it can be environmentally-friendly.

East Elevation

West Elevation Strengths:

I was able to find out the problems from the original tiny house and solve the problems by using different skills. Also, i learned how to use more tools.

Weaknesses:

I made green roof but it may has accumulated water if it is raining. When the grass and dirt absorb water, it makes the roof become very heavy.

27

South Elevation Opportunities:

If I have another opportunity to do a tiny house project, I would like to make a tiny house with two stories and I would think more about the environment. Also, I would like to make different shape of the house.

Risks:

If I do not group all the relative parts together, it will be so hard for me to find the mistakes.

Week 8-10 Tool and Improved Tool

29

The Original Tool - Comb

Narrative: This project is about improving my ability to model objects with some form of curvature.

30

Improved Tool

31

The Difference

Exploded Axon

32

I add a layer which can be pulled out because it is more convenient to clean the layer. Also, I make some holes on the layer and some of the tooth on the layer. The tooth are separated from the layer and the comb. After adding the layer, we can have more space to clean it.

Actually, this comb has two uses. If we want more tooth of the comb, we can add the layer during using the comb. If not, we just need to pull out the layer.

33

I also a mirror inside the comb because it can be handy for people who want to look at the mirror on the street.

34

I make four little stoppers to prevent the layer separating suddenly.

35

Strengths:

I learn how to use SketchUp to make curvature. Also, I use my creative to improve a tool which has flaws.

Weakness:

I forgot to make the components while i was making the tooth of the comb. Therefore, i just keep copying the tooth again which use me a lot of time to finish this project. Also, I the mirror in the wrong place and the mirror is too small to hold it.

Opportunities:

I would put the mirror on the back of the comb because the mirror can be bigger and we do not need to hold it.

Risks:

If I do not match the tooth from the holes, the layer would not fit in the comb. 36

Week 10-14 Project 3: Mid-Century Modern Architecture for the 21st Century (Group Work)

37

Cathedral of Brasilia - Oscar Niemeyer

Outside the building

38

The Real Photo of Cathedral of Brasilia

Inside the building

Narrative:

We need to model the building that we choose. Also, we need to discuss and find out the problems in the building with my group members.

39

North Elevation 40

South Elevation

Ground Floor Plan

Roof Plan 41

Strengths:

We learn how to cooperate with my group members. For example, I work on the building and my members work on the chairs and stage. During modeling the building, I learn more different skills by using SketchUp.

Weakness:

When I was modeling the building, I face a lot of difficulties. The curve of the building is so hard to model as same as the original model. Therefore, modeling this building take me lots of time fix the mistakes.

Section 42

Opportunities:

I would do much more better in the curve of the building. Also, I would like to work with other members to learn more stuff and see more different creative building from the others.

Risks:

If I do not make the curve to be a component, I need to waste a lot of time to make each of the curve one by one.

Improved Model (Individual)

44

I find out that this building has a serious heat problem. Since this building has a lot of glasses and sunlight can go inside the building easily. However, the heat is trapped inside the building, so people may feel so hot when they visit this church.

45

In order to solve the heat problem, I design to make “umbrella shape of glasses outside the building. The use of these glasses are to reduce the heat to pass through the building, but the light can still come in the building. When the sunlight shines to the building, some of the heat may reflect back from the first glasses. Therefore, adding more glasses can solve a part of the heat problem.

49

I also make a dome on the top of the building because I want the sunlight can go inside from the top. More sunlight can replace the light from the lamps so that it can be more environmental-friendly.

50

Exploded Axon

51

Strengths:

I get a lot of good ideas from my classmates and teacher to solve the heat problem of the building. I learn different methods to solve the environmental problems.

Weaknesses:

I did not make the infrastructures which are surrounding the building. I should make the infrastructures so that people can understand the location of this building and they can know what infrastructures are surrounding the building.

Opportunities:

I would like to try another method to solve the heat problem and compare which methods would solve the heat problem more effectively.

Risks:

If I do not this method to solve the heat problem, but using my original idea, I cannot solve the problem.
