A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT It has been my privilege to serve the Olympic Movement for the past 40 years, first as an athlete, then a team leader and now as President of the Japanese Olympic Committee. Over the years I have witnessed again and again the extraordinary power of sport to heal, unite, and inspire all kinds of positive change. It is this belief in the power of sport that reinforces Tokyo’s winning bid for the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games. This bid has an important role to play in the process of spiritual and physical recovery from the national tragedy of the 2011 earthquake. Being the host country, it will be an extraordinary opportunity to welcome and thank the international friends who supported our nation and our people during these difficult times. For 2020, Tokyo promises to deliver Games of excellence and excitement. Games that will be based on the world-renowned infrastructure and innovation of Tokyo, and fueled by the city’s dynamic atmosphere and youth-driven culture. The Tokyo 2020 Olympic brand which symbolizes the shared values of the Olympic Movement and the people of Japan, for whom excellence, friendship and respect are a way of life. On behalf of the people, I am proud to offer our capital city and its attractions as the host of the world’s greatest sporting event. We will welcome the world in 2020.

MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT It has been my privilege to serve the Olympic Movement for the past 40 years, first as an athlete, then a team leader and now as President of the Japanese Olympic Committee. Over all that time I have witnessed again and again the extraordinary power of sport - to heal, unite and inspire all kinds of positive change. It is this belief in the power of sport that underpins Tokyo’s bid for the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games. We believe our bid is stronger and more focused than any we have previously presented, clearly benefiting from the lessons of our past campaigns, and also from a new motivation in the context of national rebuilding efforts following the 2011 earthquake and tsunami.
