A COMMITMENT TO ART & ART MAKERS Our Programs and Instructors For over 80 years, WAG Studio has built a strong reputation for providing excellence in art instruction for children, teens, and adults. Classes incorporate current exhibitions with special tours, fostering a connection between the art on view in the galleries and the art created in the classrooms. All of our instructors have degrees and/or diplomas from universities or art colleges and many have master’s degrees and additional certification in education. While most work in private studios, instructors also bring experience as actors, administrators, art therapists, designers, and members of artist-run centres. For more information about our instructors, visit wag.ca/studio
Our Interim Location All art classes are taking place in the newly renovated space on the Gallery’s lower level. Public access is down the ramp of the WAG building on Colony St. This interim space accommodates the WAG as it works to develop the Inuit Art Centre – a stateof-the-art building that will house art classes, as well as the Gallery’s celebrated collection of contemporary Inuit art and related programs. We eagerly await our new home in the Centre where art education will expand with larger and more versatile spaces. If you have questions, please contact: Rachel Baerg, Head of Education at art-educator@wag.ca, or Diane Lafournaise, Manager of WAG Studio at studioprograms@wag.ca. Learn more about the Inuit Art Centre at inuit.wag.ca

WINTER ADULT ART CLASSES WAG Studio offers many ways to explore your creativity with beginner and intermediate courses in a variety of media. Unless otherwise indicated, adults provide their own tools and supplies for classes. Students in beginner courses will be supplied with materials for the first class, while those in intermediate courses should bring their own selection. Supply lists are handed out on the first day of class. For special workshops, supplies are generally included in the class cost.
BEGINNER All skill levels welcome • No pre-requisites required 10-WEEK CLASSES

Discover hand building, which includes slab building, slump molded forms, and throwing on the potter’s wheel. From basic thrown or hand-built forms you’ll make mugs, bowls, and platters. You’ll also learn glazing and decorating techniques to finish your work and develop your own ideas related to functional and non-functional forms.
For students with little or no drawing experience, this introduction to the fundamental techniques and concepts of drawing will sharpen observational skills and build confidence. Practice translating what you see into what you draw as you work with a variety of subjects, including still life studies and the human form.
Introduction to Watercolour Students will be introduced to the basic techniques of watercolour painting, the use and care of paints and brushes, the elements and principals of design, and colour theory.
Painting Basics Have you always wanted to paint but don’t know where to begin? Or looking to make the transition from drawing to painting? Learn about technique, colour, brushes, and how to use acrylic paint and other painting media in a supportive and creative environment.
