WELCOME TO ART IN BLOOM 2022! Your support provides the community with a creative and accessible place for learning, discovery, and inspiration. Held every two years, Art in Bloom 2022 marks the first time this festival of flowers will take place at Qaumajuq. This celebration of spring, art, and creativity is a lush feast for the senses and a welcoming community event presented by the Associates of the WAG. Thanks to Master Partner Petals West, thousands of floral blooms grace the gallery spaces in stunning arrangements - there is really nothing like Art in Bloom at the WAG. And what better way to get set for this season! Art in Bloom features floral interpretations of

dozens of artworks from the WAG collection, created by professional florists and local enthusiasts. A huge thank you and congratulations to the 2022 Art in Bloom co-chairs, Esme Scarlett and Andrea Cibinel, who along with the organizing committee, volunteers, and staff, have worked tirelessly to bring this event to life. Both art and flowers have the power to heal and inspire us. Thanks to the Associates and this year’s generous sponsors and donors, we can all enjoy this amazing sensory experience and see both art and flowers in a new light.

Dr. Stephen Borys • Director & CEO, Winnipeg Art Gallery-Qaumajuq Art in Bloom 2022 | 1

HAPPY SPRING! On behalf of all WAG-Qaumajuq volunteers, I welcome you all back to the galleries to refuel, recharge, and reconnect to the art and to each other. What an inspiring way to welcome spring, with a sensory overload of art and floral displays. Over 95 community members enlisted as floral interpreters this year, to design arrangements inspired by an artwork, and their creative work is sure to encourage us all to look ahead to the blossoming season. Not only does this event bring our community together in a unique and wonderful way, but it also raises much-needed

funds to support the ongoing work to make WAGQaumajuq as accessible as possible to everyone in our community. Thank you to the team of Associates, Gallery staff, and volunteers for bringing us together in this way. As an added act of giving, Floral Philanthropy will repurpose flowers from the interpretations for delivery to individuals in our community who do not usually have access to fresh flowers, spreading wellness across the city through a partnership with CancerCare Manitoba Foundation.

Nick Logan • Board Chair, Winnipeg Art Gallery-Qaumajuq 2 | WAG-Qaumajuq

“I must have flowers, always, and always.” claude monet The Associates of the WAG are thrilled to present Art in Bloom and take us back to a place where the community can safely come together in springtime to celebrate art, design, colour, fragrance and flowers. A record 95 interpretations are yours to enjoy thanks to the generosity and creativity of professional and non-professional florists. The artworks selected for interpretation represent 15th to 21st century pieces highlighting the outstanding collection of the WAG and include some of the most recently displayed works in Qaumajuq.

After the event, Floral Philanthropy, in partnership with CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, will distribute flowers used to healthcare centres, personal care homes, and hospitals throughout the city to bring a taste of spring to our neighbours. We are most grateful to our committee, the floral interpreters, WAG staff, and the many volunteer Associates who have endured the various postponements and setbacks presented by Covid during 2020 and 2021, and yet did not let go of the dream of Art in Bloom in 2022!
