A commitment to art and art makers OUR PROGRAMS AND INSTRUCTORS For 80 years, WAG Studio has built a strong reputation for providing excellence in art instruction for children, teens, and adults. Classes incorporate current exhibitions with special tours, fostering a connection between the art on view in the galleries and the art created in studio. All of our instructors have degrees and/or diplomas from universities or art colleges, and many have master’s degrees and additional certification in education. While most work in private studios, instructors also bring experience as actors, administrators, art therapists, designers, and members of artist-run centres. For more information about our instructors, visit wag.ca/studio
CHANGES TO WAG STUDIO PROGRAMMING As the WAG works to develop the new Inuit Art Centre, the current WAG Studio facility will be replaced by a new state-of-the-art building to house art classes, as well as the Gallery’s celebrated collection of Inuit art and related programs. Education programs offered by the WAG will expand with larger and more versatile spaces. The Inuit Art Centre will allow visitors to create and learn about art in an entirely new way, as we quadruple the number of spaces for students through the use of art studios, interactive galleries, maker-spaces, and global classrooms. We expect to begin construction in 2017, and studio classes will change during this transition period, but we’re working to find creative solutions to keep students engaged. Some classes will move back to the Gallery’s lower level and others will take place in the galleries, and we continue to explore options to take programs out to the community. If you have questions, please contact Rachel Baerg, Head of Education at art-educator@wag.ca, or Diane Lafournaise, Manager of WAG Studio at studioprograms@wag.ca
ADULT ART CLASSES Whether you’re a seasoned artist or just starting out, these classes are good for your health and happiness. Unless otherwise indicated, adults provide their own tools and supplies for classes. Basic drawing and painting materials are provided for the first class, at which time supply lists are distributed. Intermediate Studio students should bring their own selection of supplies to the first class, when you will receive a supply list for the remainder of the course. For special workshops and pottery, supplies are generally included in the class cost. Students must provide their own tools for clay classes.

You will also learn glazing and decorating techniques to finish your work and develop your own ideas related to functional and non-functional forms.
For students with little or no drawing experience, this introduction to the fundamental techniques and concepts of drawing will sharpen observational skills and build confidence. Practice translating what you see into what you draw as you work with a variety of subjects, including still life studies and the human form.
THE NEXT LEVEL CLASSES The following courses require Drawing Basics or equivalent experience as a pre-requisite. Acrylic Painting
