Free With Your Library Card!
Just in time for the spring and summer travel seasons, learn a new language with Rosetta Stone or Mango Languages! Both applications are free with your library card. Learn at your own pace on your computer or mobile device, wherever you have Internet access. You can track your progress and choose core lessons to build speaking, reading and writing skills.
ROSETTA STONE
Rosetta Stone is one of the most recognized brands in language learning. The Library’s subscription offers Level 1 learning for 30 languages. Level 1 includes 50 hours of foundational instruction for each language. This program uses immersion learning; you will only hear and speak the new language. The curriculum is sequenced to introduce new skills in a way that stimulates the brain’s natural language learning ability.
MANGO LANGUAGES
Mango Languages uses successive lessons that build on prior ones; you can both read another language and hear it spoken. Mango offers language learning and valuable cultural insights for over 60 languages, including American Sign Language. Mango Languages teaches four key components in learning a language: vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar and culture. Lessons given by native speakers will help you properly pronounce words, sentences and phrases. A pop-up mouse tool with phonetic spelling also helps you with pronunciation. A voice comparison technology feature allows you to record yourself and compare speech with a native speaker, to help you mimic proper inflection and pronunciation. Mango includes customs and etiquette, and offers more advanced learning levels than Rosetta Stone.
To begin using these programs, visit the Library’s website, and download the mobile apps to use them on Apple or Android devices. Mango also works on the Kindle Fire (second generation and above), Fire HD and Fire HDX tablets.
