The Source MEET CHEF RICK BAYLESS! TWO VILLAGES presents

GATHER

One Table Two Villages! We're excited to announce that Chef Rick Bayless will be the guest and featured speaker at the Winnetka-Northfield Public Library District's One Book Two Villages events this fall.

The Library is expanding programming this year to feature events and book discussions around the theme of “One Table, Two Villages,” bringing our communities together with food for conversation and community building. We're featuring three books this year, each one a special ingredient for a delicious community gathering complete with thought-provoking conversation.

OUR FASCINATING GUEST

DISCUSS

Bayless is most well known as a chef and restaurant entrepreneur. He has won seven James Beard Award nominations. His public television series, Mexico–One Plate at a Time, has wrapped its 11th season. He has authored nine cookbooks. His Chicago restaurants include the award-winning Frontera Grill and the four-star Topolobampo; Xoco, Leña Brava and Cervecería Cruz Blanca. He received the Humanitarian of the Year award in 2007 by the International Association of Culinary Professionals for his many philanthropic endeavors. He starred in a sold-out five-week run onstage at the Lookingglass Theatre in Cascabel – offering theater goers the story of a meal, told through flavor, memory, song, dance and amazing physical feats. Our themed programming begins in March, and will continue in earnest this summer and early fall, leading up to our September events with Rick Bayless in Winnetka and Northfield. Continued on page 2

A home garden is often seen as separate from the natural world surrounding it. In truth, it is just one part of a larger landscape made up of many living layers. The replacement of the rich layers of native flora with turf grass greatly diminishes a garden's biological diversity and ecological function. Dennis Paige, naturalist, habitat restorationist, native landscaper/consultant, and writer, demonstrates how one residential association in Schaumburg transformed their lawn into an award-winning range of stunning multiseasonal colorful prairie, woodland and wetland wildflowers, trees, shrubs, sedges, grasses and rain gardens. An inspirational and highly informative program for those who wish to create native microhabitats and other eco-friendly landscapes around their home to enhance biodiversity, beauty and environmental health. Winnetka Library Renovation Project

We Need Your Input!

The Library Board is asking for public feedback regarding a proposed renovation of the Winnetka Library lobby and several other improvements on the main floor. Improvements under consideration include: • abatement of asbestos in the Lloyd Room and lobby • new ceilings and lighting in the Lloyd Room and lobby • new circulation desk • adding a self-checkout kiosk option in the lobby and Youth Services areas • adding one or more small group/study rooms within the existing library space • a refresh of the quiet room to make it a more comfortable quiet reading and workspace • new carpeting in the lobby and adult services room Visit our website, www.winnetkalibary.org, to see the proposed early concept plans and drawings. In early March, we will have an online survey to gather community input, ask questions and help shape the direction of our library spaces.
