The Source Summer 2013
From the Director’s Desk I am truly thrilled to join to the WinnetkaNorthfield Public Library District as the new director. Already, I’m enjoying working with the creative, community-focused, and forward-thinking staff and board. I’m looking forward to finding new and innovative ways to deliver library services that build on our tradition of excellence. I would like to thank the Board of Trustees for giving me the opportunity to lead the library district. As I step into my new role, I would like to hear what you think! My goal is to be active in the community and make sure the library is meeting Winnetka-Northfield’s needs.
If you have any ideas, suggestions or questions, please contact me at (847) 446-7220. As you head to work, school, or a summer retreat, remember that our Friends of the Library are always looking for paperbacks to keep the shelves at the train station full. Please feel free to donate your paperbacks to the Friends at the Library at any of our locations. As summer approaches, the staff is busy finalizing plans for an adventure-filled summer reading club, a new teen space, and revamping the library’s website. With so many exciting things happening, I encourage you to book a trip and visit the library this summer! -Rebecca Wolf Library Director

Book Club Spotlight: Reading on the Rocks Billy Lynn is 19 and already a war hero after footage of a fierce battle between his squad and Iraqi insurgents went viral. Briefly back from Iraq on a victory tour through the states, the Bravo company attends a Thanksgiving Day Dallas Cowboys game. At the game, Billy Lynn and Bravo Squad must juggle the possibility of endless love with cheerleaders, Hollywood producers seeking to make a movie about them, football players morbidly curious about what it’s like to kill another human being, and all the conflicting emotions, thoughts, and actions each of them experiences while back in the land of sports mania, mass consumerism, and coveted yet fleeting fame before they return to the war itself. Join us on June 5 for a discussion of Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk by Ben Fountain at the library’s new book club in a pub, Reading on the Rocks. We’ll be at Stormy’s Tavern for drinks, discussion, and excellent company. All are welcome!

From the Book Blog: It’s All Good When I heard that Gwyneth Paltrow had written a new cookbook, It’s All Good, I quickly placed a hold on it from the library. I really liked her previous book, My Father’s Daughter, (the pancake recipe is wonderful), and looked forward to reading this new one. I was excited to see that her focus is on very healthy eating. Everything that I have made from it, so far, has been great. Her type of cooking is just the way that I am trying to eat now. Over the years I have discovered that I just feel better if I eat no gluten, dairy or sugar, limit carbs and eat a primarily plant-based diet. I was tired of vegan cookbooks with a focus on fake meats and cheese. I just want good vegetable recipes! It is beautiful to look at and a pleasant read. The Book Blog features recent reviews of new materials by Winnetka-Northfield Public Library District staff. Read more at www.winnetkalibrary.org/books-movies/BookBlog
