The Youth Services Renovation Completed in June 2016 • The addition of comfortable seating, an imaginative play station, and more space for family reading, crafting, and experiential learning increased foot traffic, visit length, and interactivity, making the Youth space a true destination for local families. • Picture book "boutiques" organized by category empowered pre-readers to intuitively and independently find favorite books. Face-out shelving allowed cover art to shine, increasing browsability for our youngest patrons. • Created space for the 2018 addition of take-home STEAM kits to boost science and technology skills as a family.

The Studio? Located in the lower level of the Winnetka Library, The Constance E. Staffileno Studio makerspace features: 3D printing, laser engraving, machine embroidery, vinyl cutting, the Adobe Creative Cloud, and more to inspire and educate a community of innovative makers and creators.
3D PRINTER A junior high patron 3D printed a cell for his school science project. He chose the colors, laser engraved a master key, dremeled, and hot glued all of the pieces together! 3D printed slugs have also been a fan favorite.
The Studio is a dedicated space to gather, share resources and knowledge, work on projects, network and build. It offers the opportunity for creative problem solving and fosters creativity. The ability to tinker, experiment and explore, with unstructured time and materials is beneficial to all ages. Register for one of our many classes, join us for Studio Orientation to explore the possibilities, or just drop by any time the Library is open. You will always find a trained staff member in The Studio who is happy to help. Bring your imagination and try out your creativity!
LASER ENGRAVER As one of the most popular machines in the space, we have seen a number of impressive projects on the laser engraver. Beyond cutting boards, coasters, and glasses, some of our favorite projects include: engraved water bottles, cut and engraved garden markers, drum sticks, and jewelry pieces. One patron even makes a yearly effort to cut out numerous different hearts to send to her family for Valentine’s Day!

EMBROIDERY MACHINE A college-age patron who, at the time, was close to graduating from business school embroidered his initials on the cuff of his shirts. After he accepted a new position, he returned to mention that he has received several compliments from his manager and colleagues about his classy attire! Other popular projects have been: towels, napkins, a table cloth, and many baby gifts for new nieces, nephews, and grandchildren - among others!
A POPULAR LOCAL STORY! This past summer, a very nice library regular helped a bride alter her wedding dress‌on the day of the wedding! Using one of our sewing machines and sewing supplies, she was able to mend and tailor the dress in time.

WinnetkaNorthfield Public Library District cardholders have priority registration until seven days before the class starts. Registration then opens to all other area library cardholders.
