About Carlson Tractor & Equipment Our Services Carlson Tractor & Equipment helps maximize uptime for customers with quick parts delivery and emergency service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our technicians undergo extensive training and are certified for the equipment they service. Rental equipment is available by the day, week or month, delivered right to your job site

Our Customers Carlson Tractor & Equipment represents off-road equipment manufacturers that serve a wide range of businesses—commercial and residential construction, landscaping, municipal government, excavating and grading, infrastructure and utilities, recycling and scrap handling, industrial and manufacturing, demolition, rental, forestry and forestry manufacturing, agriculture, aggregate, alternative energy and energy distribution, mining, and wood processing.

Our Equipment

Our Family Business Carlson Tractor & Equipment traces its beginnings to 1953 when Clifford Carlson opened a Ford tractor dealership when the local Ford dealer decided to split the tractor business from the automobiles. Clifford had a farm in the area and was always happy with his Ford tractors. The first location was in Hastings, and Clifford quickly expanded the equipment lines to include construction and aggregate equipment to serve the nearby expanding Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. Clifford’s sons, Ron and Rich, grew up in the business, pitching in after school and on weekends, working in every critical department—sales, service, rental and parts. In 1972 their father began passing along the company reins into their capable hands. Today, Ron is president and Rich is vice president, and the third generation of Carlsons has joined the management group. Ron’s son Ben is the sales manager, and son Chris heads up the sales department for crushing and screening equipment. Rich’s daughter Sarah Lauer wears several hats, in accounting, financing and HR, and his nephew, Jason Kuhn, is the parts and service support manager. The rest of the management team is part of a family that extends beyond the Carlsons—the Carlson Tractor & Equipment family. Both the parts and service managers at Rosemount joined the company over 35 years ago; Russ Kraft is the service manager, and Keith Juhnke is the parts manager. Several mechanics have been with the company more than 25 years. The same values that have made Carlson Tractor & Equipment a wonderful place to work ensure that its customers receive first class treatment. Clifford Carlson’s principles continue to guide the day-to-day operations. “Anybody can sell the first machine, but it takes parts and service to sell the second, third and fourth.” The adage is taken seriously, and in many cases, the second and third generations of Carlsons are working with the second and third generations of customers.

Certified Technicians Carlson assures technicians are trained continually

• Carlson’s technicians are factory trained and certified • Our manufacturers provide specialized training for their equipment

Our Technicians Are Factory Trained Carlson has extensive training requirements to certify technicians and assure that they are properly equipped to service your machines. Our technicians attend classes at our manufacturers’ technical training centers to learn any new diagnostic and service techniques and to understand any changes in manuals or equipment requirements. Our technicians are trained in equipment operation, diagnostics, maintenance and repair. Carlson combines classroom training with on-the-job experience for a thorough understanding of machine maintenance and repair. Safety regulations and procedures are emphasized throughout the training process.

Technical Training Center All manufacturers’ classes are taught by certified specialists. There are courses on the functions and performance of specific machines, which include scheduled maintenance inspections, adjustments, tests, troubleshooting techniques and repair procedures. There are also component courses, which provide more in-depth information for specialized technicians. As diagnostic equipment becomes more and more complicated, training is especially critical to maintain equipment properly and to optimize operating time.

Extended Warranty Options Protect your equipment with an extended warranty

What is an extended warranty? Extend your warranty beyond the period that comes with your equipment. It includes all the genuine parts and the service performed by factory trained technicians.

Why buy an extended warranty? It protects you against the expense of unexpected repairs. Resale value is higher, because the plan can be transferred to the new owner.

What equipment is eligible? New Equipment Add your extended warranty to your financing when you purchase any eligible equipment. You can purchase your extended warranty any time during the warranty period at standard new equipment rates. You can even add extended warranty up to four months after the base warranty expires.* New equipment plans can be transferred to a new owner, which can boost its resale value. Used Equipment Used equipment that is less than seven years old and has less than 7,000 hours at the time of registration** can be covered. An oil test for equipment with over 1,000 hours determines final eligibility. Most brands are eligible for coverage.

Special Rates Discounts are available for equipment covered by Scheduled Maintenance Contracts. Ask if your equipment qualifies. *A surcharge is added to the new equipment rate once the warranty period expires, and failures that occur within the first 30 days after registration are not eligible for reimbursements. **Eligible repairs within the first 30 days after registration are reimbursed at 50% of the normal retail cost for parts and labor.

Scheduled Maintenance Inspections Reduce downtime with Scheduled Maintenance Inspections by our Certified Technicians

• Certified, trained technicians • Documented maintenance for warranty assurance • Any brand, any model • On-site or in our shop

On-Time Inspections You can count on Carlson to complete Scheduled Maintenance Inspections for your equipment to avoid downtime and keep your machines performing their best. Most equipment manufacturers require some sort of maintenance every 250 hours. We can verify service hours periodically and perform maintenance activities to meet warranty coverage requirements.

Trained, Certified Technicians All machines are serviced by our trained, certified technicians, on-site or in our shops. We can service any brand that’s in your fleet.

Thorough Inspections We have developed a thorough inspection regimen for each type of equipment. These procedures are strictly followed to identify possible problems with equipment functions. Each inspection includes an oil analysis, which reveals the presence of metals and contaminants in the machine’s fluids, indicating which components are worn and might require replacement in the future.

Scheduled Maintenance On-Site Carlson maintains a fleet of service vehicles to provide on-site service for both repairs and routine maintenance. Our trained, certified technicians are dispatched to your job site to perform maintenance activities recommended by the equipment manufacturer at specified intervals. We can schedule these maintenance procedures when your machines are idle to optimize your equipment productivity.

At Your Convenience When it’s time for your machine to be serviced, we’ll contact you to arrange a time and location that’s convenient for you.

How Long is a Scheduled Maintenance Contract?

Customize Your Scheduled Maintenance Contract

Why a Scheduled Maintenance Contract?

You choose the term—up to 5 years or 5,000 hours.

Add any of these features to your Scheduled Maintenance Contract for added protection:

Fixed Pricing A Scheduled Maintenance Contract eliminates price uncertainty. Prices are set before repairs begin, and there are no additional mileage charges.

Payment Options Finance It—Add your Scheduled Maintenance Contract payment to your financing package on your machine. Charge It—Charge your Scheduled Maintenance Contract to your credit account for your current machines. Ask about a credit line increase to accommodate your Scheduled Maintenance Contracts. Lease It—Add a Scheduled Maintenance Contract to your lease agreement.

Oil Analysis With our lubrication analysis system, samples of fluids are taken periodically from key compartments of your machine. These fluids are analyzed to identify abnormal wear rates, contamination, leakage and other destructive conditions before major damage occurs. Fleet Management Communications System By monitoring your machine remotely, Carlson can schedule service at necessary intervals. This system allows you to locate and lock your equipment remotely and monitor productivity.

Reduced Hassle With a Scheduled Maintenance Contract, you don’t have the hassle of stocking replacement filters or lubricants. We’ll come to you with the necessary parts so you can focus on the job at hand. Record of Repair All maintenance, repairs, and fluid analyses are documented to maintain warranty compliance and increase resale or trade-in value.

7

Oil Analysis Analyzing system fluids provides a snapshot of internal conditions • Identify minor problems to avoid major failures. • Extend equipment life—Contaminant levels in fluids dictate when to replace filters. • Increase oil drain intervals—The condition of your oil indicates when oil changes are actually necessary. • Increase resale value—Oil analysis records prove your equipment has been maintained. • Any make, any model

What is an oil analysis?

Sampling Intervals

Fluids are taken from several areas in your equipment and are analyzed by laboratories to determine levels of contaminants in the various fluids. The level of each contaminant is compared to normal wear rates, so that potential problems with components can be identified before failure. The trends for the contaminant levels in your equipment also provide valuable information on potential problems.

Manufacturers recommend sampling intervals for each model. Also consider how critical each piece of equipment is to your production in determining sampling frequency. You may want to reduce the hours between sampling periods for equipment operating under more stressful conditions, such as those in a very hot, dirty environment, or machines used for short trips with heavy loads, or those with excessive idle times.

Carlson monitors your oil analyses. We will provide guidance on necessary repairs and filter and oil change intervals, based on the results for your equipment.

General Guidelines for Sampling Intervals Engines Transmissions Hydraulics Differentials Gearboxes

Undercarriage Maintenance Spot problems with inspections at regular intervals • Monitor your undercarriage routinely • Don’t delay repairs or replacements on undercarriage components • Any make, any model

Carlson’s technicians are trained to identify undercarriage problems before major repairs are required. By measuring the thickness of the undercarriage components, our technicians can predict how long your undercarriage will last before replacements are needed. During scheduled maintenance service, we include undercarriage wear evaluations.
