LEGAL WRITERS AND ANALYSTS REACH NEW HIGH Employer demand for Paralegals in southeast Michigan has reached a new high in 2017. Regional employers posted 943 job ads for these workers in the past year, a nine percent (73 posting) increase from the level of postings in 2016. Employment of Paralegals is projected to rise steadily over the next 5 years. Future need for these workers is strong. Paralegal jobs require an associate’s degree. The Paralegal profession is both a good starting point for those hoping to one day continue their legal education, and for those taking advantage of the opportunities for growth in this occupation. Either trajectory can begin with a two-year program at a local community college.

Entry-level wages for Paralegals are above a $15 per hour living wage. Median salaries are $50,658 a year, which is above the regional median family income. Wages for paralegals increase with experience such that experienced Paralegals can make as much as $77,389 per year. Women dominate the current Paralegal workforce – only 13% of workers are male.
