YOUTH MOUNTAIN BIKE PROGRAMS AGES 6-11 // SPRING, SUMMER & FALL

Our spring and fall mountain bike programs are designed to get your child back outside and on the trails! These multi-week programs will strengthen your rider’s overall skills, endurance and knowledge. At WinSport we’ve got a campus that offers a diversity of terrain that allows riders to experience it all. Register your child into one of four levels and get them ready to hit the trails with you. Please note: If your child has any biking experience, even if it is not mountain biking specific, they may be a level 2 or 3. Please read our level descriptions and prerequisites carefully before registering.

LEVEL 1

LEVEL 3

Key Goals • General introduction to biking • Learn correct body position and braking technique to improve control while riding

Key Goals Continue developing skills in cross country, and downhill mountain biking

This program is a fun introduction to all aspects of cycling. Children practice in a progressive learner’s area where they explore and learn with a friendly group of like-minded kids.

Prerequisites • No previous experience needed

This program is for kids who can control their speed and are ready for a new challenge on green terrain.

Prerequisites Successful completion of Level 2 and / or is capable of the following: • Comfortable riding in gentle, off-road conditions • Able to handle small obstacles such as rocks, roots and bridges • Able to fully control speed

LEVEL 2

This program is for kids who are comfortable riding on pavement and roads and are now looking to be challenged on grass and dirt. Riders will be introduced to all aspects of mountain biking including cross-country, enduro and downhill.

LEVEL 4

Key Goals • Begin learning to ride on grass and dirt • Understand how to change gears • Introduction to cross-country, enduro and downhill mountain biking

Key Goals • Develop aggressive riding technique • Develop skill-based maneuvers including front/rear wheel lifts, bunny hops, drops and jumps • Continue developing skills in cross-country, enduro and downhill mountain biking

Prerequisites Successful completion of Level 1 and / or is capable of the following: • Comfortable riding on pavement and roads • Able to ride straight down a gentle hill while controlling speed with hand brakes

This program is for kids ready to develop a more aggressive riding technique on blue terrain.

Prerequisites Successful completion of Level 3 and / or is capable of the following: • Confident riding on challenging off-road terrain at higher speeds • Able to remain in full control of speed • Open to new challenges on blue terrain

DISCOVER MOUNTAIN BIKING AGES 13+

OFFERED DAILY FROM MAY 6 - JUNE 30

It’s never too late to learn a new activity! This introductory mountain bike lesson is designed for those people who are ready to move from the paved pathways to off-road single-track terrain. Our instructors will teach you the skills needed to tackle the trails with confidence. This lesson focuses on the basics such as setting up and using your equipment, the available terrain and the sport, and will increase your confidence as a “first timer”. Discover Mountain Bike is undoubtedly an easier and more affordable way to learn a new sport. This program includes lesson & rentals.

DISCOVER DOWNHILL MOUNTAIN BIKING AGES 13+

FRIDAY - MONDAY FROM JULY 5 TO SEPTEMBER 1 SATURDAYS & SUNDAYS FROM SEPTEMBER 7-29

This lesson is an introduction to downhill mountain biking using the lift accessible trails here at WinSport. Riders must be comfortable on off-road single-track trails and be looking to develop their skills. This lesson focuses on developing the basic skills of off-road riding and applying them to downhill biking. This program includes lessons & rentals.

ADULT MOUNTAIN BIKE PROGRAMS

Shake off the rust and come hit the trails with us! Whether you are passionate about mountain biking, just starting or trying to keep up with your kids, we have a lesson for you. Participants will be introduced to all aspects of mountain biking including cross-country, enduro and downhill. Use our progressive learning area and extensive trail network to explore the terrain and improve skills. We will get you comfortable for a trip to the mountains, out on your own or with the family! Please note: This program begins at Level 2. If you are learning to ride, check out our Discover Lessons.

This program is for adults who are comfortable riding on pavement and roads and are looking to be challenged on grass and dirt.

New Park, New Playground, New Program = New Personal Best! The New WinSport Mountain Bike Skills Park is designed for us to focus in on specific key skills to improve your overall mountain biking. Utilizing flow trails, pump tracks, and featured skill trails this will take your riding to a new level and a new Strava record! Each week will be a different focus to help build specific skills including drops, jumps, cornering, and maneuvers such as wheelies, bunny hops etc. Come ride with our trained coaches and they will help you develop key skills to help you smash your personal best!

BEGINNER

Get ready to ride! This clinic is for riders looking to introduce and develop new skills on the trails. Come gain mileage and confidence so you can keep up with your friends or kids!

Our Women’s Wednesday summer mountain bike programs are designed for those with busy schedules or who can’t commit to a multi-week program. You can register for the dates that work with your schedule giving you the flexibility to try a new skill in the outdoors with great instruction in a supportive environment. We will use our progressive learning area and extensive trail network to explore the terrain and improve your skills so you are comfortable for a trip to the mountains!

We suggest registering for a minimum of four classes to maximize your learning opportunity. You must register more than 24 hours in advance of the class start time.

These sessions will help you understand gears, varied terrain and introduces more challenging features such as wooden bridges and small jumps when your skill allows. Come join us on the trails!

Are you ready to push yourself to the next level? This class is for ladies looking to increase their level of riding and tackle more advanced terrain features and amp up the endurance. In these lessons, we will introduce you to wooden bridges, small jumps, blue terrain, and develop skill-based maneuvers.

LEVEL 5

ALL MOUNTAIN

SPRING & SUMMER CLUB PROGRAMS MAY 1 JULY 3

Our All Mountain program develops fundamental skills to take kids’ riding to the next level. This includes braking, gearing and body positioning skills in terrain typically found on mountain bike trails. Kids are exposed to all aspects of mountain biking, including cross country and downhill. They build confidence and resilience in a safe environment.

LEVEL 4

This is our entry level into club programs for kids who have progressed past Level 3 lessons or camps. This program continues to develop skills on all terrain including single-track cross-country trails and our downhill chair accessible trails. All Mountain Level 4 teaches fundamental skills to set kids up to pursue the discipline of their choice in the future. Key Goals • Develop aggressive riding style • Develop skill-based maneuvers such as wheel lifts, drop and jumps • Expose kids to all disciplines of mountain biking to strengthen and develop fundamental skills Prerequisites • Completion of Level 3 (camp or lesson) Comfortably rides trails such as: • Green Tea, Strawberry Shortcake, Tender Vittles Comfortably rides 5-8 km loop in one of the following areas: • Eastlands, West Bragg Creek, Canmore Nordic Centre Remain in full control of speed and direction on moderately steep and technical single-track trails

All Mountain Level 5 is for kids who are looking to advance their skills on steeper and more technical trails. Participants take on more challenging terrain, including root-covered trails, and are exposed to features that require drops and jumps. Key Goals • Develop aggressive riding style • Develop skill-based maneuvers such as wheel lifts, drop and jumps • Use skills on black downhill and cross-country trails Prerequisites • Completion of All Mountain Level 4 or Level 4 (camp or lesson) OR confident on all types of single-track terrain and able to climb and descend on blue level trails Comfortably rides trails such as: • Fired Up, Dragon Slayer, Tender Vittles Comfortably rides a 8-10 km loop in one of the following areas: • Eastlands, West Bragg Creek, Canmore Nordic Centre Remain in full control of speed and direction on moderately steep and technical single-track trails

LEVEL 6

All Mountain Level 6 is for kids looking to test their skills and push the limits. Participants prepare to tackle steeper, more technical terrain in all disciplines. They will continue to develop as a well-rounded cross country and downhill rider and have the skills required to take on the next step. Prerequisites • Completion of All Mountain Level 5 OR confident on all types of single-track terrain including trails with large jumps and drops, and able to climb and descend on blue level trails Comfortably rides trails such as: • Fired Up, Dragon Slayer, Tender Vittles, Safari Planet, BBQ Jello Comfortably rides 10 km loop in one of the following areas: • Eastlands, West Bragg Creek, Canmore Nordic Centre Remain in full control of speed and direction on moderately steep and technical single-track trails

DOWNHILL/FREERIDE AGES 10-17 JULY 2

Our All Mountain Enduro Program focuses on introducing and developing athletes in the discipline of Enduro. This fast-paced, high fitness discipline is the fastest growing in mountain biking today, so get ready to go fast and push yourself to the limit.

Our downhill/freeride program begins to hone in on skills and develop freeride-specific riding. This program utilizes some single-track terrain to develop skills and fitness with the primary goal of developing speed and skills on challenging downhill trails.

Key Goals • Develop fitness • Introduce athletes to exciting new discipline

Prerequisites • Physically fit and well-rounded rider • Remain in full control of speed and direction on moderately steep and technical single-track trails Experience with other areas, such as: • Fernie – Aggravated Assault, Alternate Flight Pattern • Moose Mountain – T-Dub, Race of Spaces • Canmore Nordic Centre – Black Coal Chutes
