Jessica Cantlin: Blue Summer
Winston Wächter Fine Art
Jessica Cantlin Digital Exhibition
Blue Summer August 18– September 8, 2021 Blue Summer expands on Jessica Cantlin’s 2020 digital exhibition Captured By The Sea with a series of unwavering ocean snapshots that juxtapose the calm of summertime with the delicate absurdism of beach culture. Cantlin treats her figures with both precision and nonchalance, highlighting brightly clad bodies lounging and frolicking everywhere around the rich, inviting water. Shot during a month spent exploring the Aegean Sea, Cantlin gives unduly depth to the color blue, contrasting its violent, depressive abyss with its ethereal, pensive calm. The viewer takes on the unassuming role of Cantlin’s subjects, mesmerized in the sweltering ease of the coast. Our relationship with water is presented as luxurious yet emotionally complex, constantly shifting and deepening. Jessica Cantlin is a fine art photographer and writer. After leaving her career as a successful attorney, Jessica searched for ways to “feed her wanderlust”. By creating the popular blog of the same name, she was able to document her travels and share her experiences, with the hopes of inspiring others to appreciate the beauty surrounding them.
