Design Co-Chairs: Frank de Biasi, Wendy Goodman & Thomas Jayne

East Side House Settlement and The Winter Show are delighted to welcome acclaimed interior designers Frank De Biasi and Thomas Jayne, and design editor Wendy Goodman, as this year’s Design Co-Chairs.

Frank De Biasi

Inspired by the intrinsic value of design and what it brings to a space, Frank De Biasi’s career began at Christie’s New York in 1987, where he forged a love for contemporary art and the history of design appraising fine art and antiques. He later became Director of Interiors for world-renowned architect Peter Marino – a position he held for twelve years before opening his eponymous firm in 2006.

His work has been featured in major domestic and international publications including World of Interiors, House Beautiful, Home & Design, Interiors, New York Spaces, Architectural Digest France, Architectural Digest Italy, Architectural Digest Spain, Elle Décor China, Home Decorating China, Maison Française, Vogue and New York Magazine. Frank’s team of talented designers spans the globe offering his clients an unparalleled network of the world’s finest artisans and craftspeople.

Projects include private residences and commercial projects in New York City, Greenwich, Connecticut, Los Angeles, Miami, London, and Morocco.

Wendy Goodman

Wendy Goodman is a leader in the international design community and has been New York magazine’s Design Editor since 2007. Over the course of her career she has defined trends, discovered new talent, and worked with the best designers, architects, and photographers. She regularly hosts talks on design, at venues ranging from the 92nd Street Y to the Museum of the City of New York and has appeared on NBC’s Open House and Good Morning America, among other outlets.

As Design Editor at New York magazine/Vox Media, Goodman produces design stories for the print issues, and also content for weekly design stories on the Curbed website, now part of New York magazine. Goodman previously worked as New York’s interior design editor (1997-2007) and fashion editor (1984-1989). Before rejoining New York magazine in 1997, Goodman was the style editor at Harper’s Bazaar. Prior to her work at Bazaar, Goodman covered the world of style and fashion for House and Garden, tracking fashion designers and artists at home and traveling to the Paris, Milan, and New York shows. She is the co-author, with Hutton Wilkinson, of Tony Duquette (2007) and author of The World of Gloria Vanderbilt (2010), May I Come In?: Discovering the World in Other People’s Houses (2018). Thomas Jayne and Jayne Design Studio are widely recognized for preservation and furthering of traditional design. Over the past 30 years, Jayne and the Studio have developed a reputation for creating rooms that are traditionally inspired, but modern in spirit, with a strong connection to history and place. Their work draws upon the past for inspiration, seeking details that will deepen and enhance their decoration.

In addition to his well-regarded international practice, Jayne has written three books published by the Monacelli Press: The Finest Rooms in America (2010), a monograph of his own work, American Decoration (2012), and in January 2018, Classical Principles for Modern Design: Lessons from Edith Wharton and Ogden Codman’s The Decoration of Houses. His work has been published in numerous shelter publications and won multiple awards including an Arthur Ross Award and two Stanford White Awards from the Institute of Classical Architecture and Art and the England-based Georgian Group Architectural Award for Interior Restoration.

He was fortunate to work in two of the most influential design studios in America – Parish-Hadley & Associates and Kevin McNamara, Inc.– before founding Jayne Design Studio in 1990.
