The PlayBarn Review
EATDRINKPLAY Keeping children entertained whilst being entertained yourself seems an impossible task at times but a trip to the Playbarn @ Greenfields will never disappoint! No matter what the weather, the cavernous
4 MILES EAST OF ELGIN ON THE A96 01343 843 101
barn will welcome you all. My friend and I took our children there on a Sunday afternoon so they could let off some steam and we could have a catch up. There is a great system of checking in so that they know who is coming and going and you know your child cannot escape if you take your eye off them (which will happen in this huge play paradise). We were all warmly greeted by the unfailingly friendly staff, checked in and allocated a table - and the kids were off!!! A much needed tea and latte were the order of the day for us grown ups and we immediately turned our attention to the menu. It's hard to ignore the food as your eyes are assaulted by the glorious sweets on offer as you order your drinks - everything from moist cakes and tray bakes to Slushies and sweets and chocolates! And the main menu did not disappoint either. I chose the Baked Potato with Prawn Marie Rose and my friend had the Mexican Chicken Wrap. We decided on The Barn Buckets for the kids which is a novel way of allowing your child the freedom of choice and knowing they're getting a healthy rounded lunch. They take a bucket and get to choose a filled roll, a yoghurt or jelly, a fruity pot or a piece of fresh fruit a juice and a bag of crisps, all from a designated area where they all turned into the proverbial 'child in a sweet shop'. They demolished their 'loot' and were off again, leaving us to the important task of putting the world to rights while we waited for our food - which did not take long. The wrap looked fresh and tasty and was confirmed as a winner with its fresh salad and glorious onion rings. The prawns that filled my potato were not the usual small ones you'd expect, but the big ones that were a real treat and this was accompanied by crispy salad and a basket of crisps. The portions were generous and well worth the money. We sat and chatted for ages and realised that, although the place was so packed and we were surrounded by people, it was surprisingly intimate. We didn't have to shout to be heard and did not feel like everyone around us could hear our conversation - we certainly didn't hear anyone else's. Once the session ended we had happy, sweaty children and we were relaxed with satisfied taste buds. Happy children, happy

PASTORAL LETTER & CHURCH MEETINGS Seventy Years of Peace? In 1938, with war once more threatening our world, the British Prime Minister, Mr Neville Chamberlain went to Munich seeking “peace for our time”; when he returned he waved a piece of paper and spoke about “peace with honour”. Less than a year later, on 3 September 1939, he had to announce that war had been declared - a war that was to last nearly six years and claim the lives of millions of men, women and children. Little wonder there was so much relief and unrestrained joy when VE Day was announced on 8 May 1945, followed three months later by VJ Day on 15 August. King George VI could announce, “The war is over”. Surely this had been the “war to end all wars”, yet history tells a different story. Korea, Vietnam, Falkland Islands, Kuwait,
Bosnia, Iraq, Afghanistan – and so the list goes on. Seventy years of peace would have been wonderful, yet there is something greater than this – eternal peace with God. The Bible states, “All have sinned and come short of the glory of God”. Romans 3:23 Our sin is the obstacle to peace, for it has put us at enmity with God. No treaty or organisation can remove this barrier and secure peace. Only the Prince of Peace, who was so brutally tortured and nailed to a rugged cross, can bring reconciliation. It was there that the Lord Jesus Christ “made peace through the blood of His cross”. Colossians 1:20 Although it was men who crucified Him, it was God who punished Him on account of our sin that there might be a righteous basis for peace. The death of the Lord Jesus wasn’t the start of a peace process, but a

finished work. For seventy years peace has eluded our world, yet for nearly 2,000 years God has offered peace to the sinner. Do you have this peace? You cannot negotiate a peace settlement with God on your own terms, for the conditions are set out in His Word, the Bible. If you want to have this peace you must confess to God that you are a sinner, accept by faith that the Lord Jesus died because of your sin, and trust Him as your Saviour. You will then have peace with God: peace for all time and for eternity. “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ”. Romans 5:1

Where Do All these Weeds Keep Coming From ? Weeds are just wild flowers in the wrong place !
We apply a weedkill 3 times each season for our
Someone else said that, not just me. There are two
customers, and we don’t really expect to have
basic types of lawn weed, as indeed there are
any weeds at all by the 2nd season. As I said
elsewhere in the garden; annual weeds, with a lifetime

of one season mainly; and perennial weeds which

come back year on year. I have come to recognise two distinct timetables for them to appear. The “earlies” include daisies and dandelions, then later weeds such as clover and buttercups, which don’t really come up in these parts until late spring. They can originate from seed from a previous generation, and some will have overwintered in the ground. They can also arrive on the wind, or even from bird droppings.
For more information about seasonal lawn improvements from just £15 per qtr, plus useful downloads and photos, go to www.greenthumb.co.uk. Although GreenThumb is a national franchise with over 500,000 customers and 200 branches across the UK, we are the local franchise, based in Nairn and cover the whole Moray Firth area.
It is actually usually quite straightforward to bankrupt the seed bed, to break the supply chain, and have almost no weeds in a lawn at all. It does however need timing of weedkill application. It also needs done two years in a row to achieve clearance, and then every year to keep it clear, mainly of annual weeds by then. The best time to apply the first weedkill is spring, at the first appearance of young weeds. The second application should go on 6 weeks later to catch the 2nd flush (later weeds). Young weeds put up much less resistance to a weedkill. As the summer progresses, weedkilling will become less and less successful. There are two classes of weedkill products. One class is a “contact” weedkill which destroys the leaf, and prevents further plant growth. The other is a “systemic”, which gets into the leaf, and then gets drawn down into the plant system, eventually reaching the root maybe two weeks later. The aim is to kill the weed at the root so it’s permanent.

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a neurological condition which affects around 100,000 people in the UK. Most people are diagnosed between the ages of 20-40, but it can affect younger and older people too. Almost three times as many women have MS as men. As the MS Society passed its 60 year of offering support and advice to people living with Multiple Sclerosis, the Moray Branch of the MS Society has spent the past three years giving and sharing. Since our re-incarnation, the branch has been able to offer small grants and a second year of taster sessions in complementary therapies to people living with MS. The local branch consists of a small group of people who have an interest in MS and meet together once a month to look at offering funding complimentary therapy taster sessions, a maximum of four sessions and small grants for people or families living with MS. The branch has a service agreement with Citizens Advice Bureau to support people with the transition between Disability Living Allowance and PIP – Personal Independence Payment and form filling.
We would be delighted to have a few more volunteers join us at our monthly meetings. It is not a time consuming commitment, the main goal of the committee is to share the finances held by the branch, to raise awareness and to have a good laugh at the same time. If you would like more information, either email or text us on: moray@mssociety.org.uk or leave a message on the branch mobile on 07917 218725. If you are able to offer a little time or would like to be part of the committee, we would love to have you join us, contact us on the above email address or leave a message on the mobile phone. You can also find us on: www.facebook.com/MSSocietyMoray it is a job in progress but join us and share your stories.
