Create and store your own solar energy The Tesla Energy Powerwall 2 stores up to 13.5 kWh of excess solar energy during daylight hours when your home electricity usage is low, then discharges in the evening during those high usage/peak times saving you money. The Powerwall can be installed with new Solar PV systems or can be retrofitted to existing PV systems. A home battery system protects homeowners from future electricity price increases and reduce reliance on the national grid.

About AES Solar Established in 1979, AES Solar is the oldest solar company in Western Europe and has completed solar thermal and PV installations all over the world. We proudly manufacture our range of solar thermal panels in Forres and our aim is to make Scotland the solar capital of the world.

The historic Royal Burgh of Forres is located near the Moray coast in the north east of Scotland. Famed for its beautiful gardens and its rich historical and cultural heritage, the town has a wide variety of amenities and attractions for local people and visitors alike.
The Forres Scottish Week takes place every third year and continues the tradition of the Gala Week, which used to be an annual event. The 2018 event caters for a wide variety of tastes, starting with two diverse musical extravaganzas.
The Forres Community Activities Association invites you to come and enjoy the 21st century version of ancient traditions such as the Riding of the Marches (bring a bicycle, not a horse) and the Toun Mercat, a very popular event which always attracts a huge crowd. We invite you to join our celebrations and enjoy our programme of events. A warm welcome awaits you.
Cllr. George G Alexander
Chairman of the Forres Community Activities Association.

Brought to you by:
GreenThumb, About us and looking towards the Year. Our small team of 4, based here in the Moray Firth, will have a busy year ahead as we will have over 1,100 regular customers presenting us with their lawn problems. Sounds a lot, but we are a pretty small franchise up here though. GreenThumb across the UK will have 500,000 customers this year! As we will be providing local monthly updates as the season unfolds through the year again in this magazine, we thought it might be nice to let you see where we are based.
Although we don’t know exactly what the weather will throw at us this season, we have a fair idea what we will be asked to tackle. Highlights will likely include:
Winter Months Moss and thatch; we will be aerating and scarifying all hours of the day to get through everybody before the Spring Weed and Feed Treatments start. Also look out for leatherjackets emerging (crane fly grubs) and eating lawn roots, sometimes causing devastation.
Spring Months Weed kiill and Spring fertiliser; we will want some decent weather to get lawns off to a good start. Spring 2017 was lovely, but a nice Spring has been a rarity recently..
Summer Months Mowing; best practice is never cut shorter than 1”. Mowing too close is the most destructive thing you can do to a lawn (usually a man-thing) and in particular encourages moss to flourish! June is when we will likely see the first signs of Red Thread fungal disease damage (wet summers are the worst). We’ve had 2 wet Summers in a row now.
Autumn Months Moss control treatments and winter feeds; we will want to get all our customers’ lawns ready for next winter, and most will want to think about aerating and scarifying outwith the growing season, either themselves or using us and our machines. Alastair Watt
For more information about our annual lawncare plans from just £11.25 per mth, plus useful downloads and photos, go to www.greenthumb.co.uk. Although GreenThumb is a multi-award winning national franchise, and is the runaway leader in the sector with half a million customers, we are the family-run local franchise covering the wider Moray Firth area. Contact Alastair or Fiona for a FREE LAWN ANALYSIS on 01463 229786, or email us at: inverness@greenthumb.co.uk

Potato (Tattie) Scones
OOD
This Potato Scones Recipe is easy to make and requires few ingredients. They can be enjoyed on their own with a topping such as butter, margarine, jam, marmalade, grated cheese, etc. They are best eaten warm and are easily reheated. Ingredients: 250g boiled and mashed potatoes, King Edwards are ideal 75g plain flour (you may not need it all) 25g butter Generous pinch of salt & pepper Directions: 1) Boil the potatoes in salted water until tender. 2) Drain the potatoes and mash them with the butter, salt, pepper and baking powder. 3) Mix in the flour to make a stiff dough. The exact amount of flour will depend on the type of potatoes used. 4) Roll out the dough on a floured surface to around 5 to 6 mm thickness. 5) Cut into rounds about the size of a saucer or small tea plate. 6) Prick all over with a fork and score the dough to mark it into quarters 7) Cook in a heavy pan or griddle which has been very lightly greased. 8) Cook each side for about three minutes on a medium heat until golden brown. DAY 7 Toun Mercat
FRIDAY 8th JUNE
All of Forres High Street 6.00pm - 9.00pm
The famous Forres Toun Mercat returns for another year!
As part of Scottish Week 2018 the Toun Mercat is returning and the whole of the High Street will be transformed into a buzzing street market.
Completely closed off to traffic you’ll find something for everyone including charity stalls, crafters, a woodworking demonstration, fairground rides, cakes and bakes, Mediterranean foods, bungee trampolines and live performances from local groups to name but a few! Cafes and bars will be open for refreshments, High Street shops will be open for business and we have a new farmers’ market area where you can buy fresh, local and organic foods direct from the producer.
As 2018 is the Scottish “Year of the Young Person” the theme for window dressing and fancy dress (should anyone want to join in!) is “Come As You Were”. Dig out those flares, loosen up the lycra and join in the fun!! As usual the whole event will be compared by the fabulous Wave Radio! Forres Community Logo.pdf
