PASTORAL LETTER & CHURCH MEETINGS He has been born! Messiah is born! Yes, he came just as the prophets said he would. We are approaching that season of the year when Jesus Christ was born. It was probably during the Feast of Tabernacles, which we read of in Leviticus Chapter 23. The setting is the wilderness and Moses is leading two million people towards the Promised Land. That is not a phrase we hear frequently today. God is giving instructions regarding Worship. We remember that through faith in Jesus Christ, we are engrafted into Israel. We are the wild olive which is grafted into the true holy trunk and that holy trunk and root supports and feeds us. The Feast of Tabernacles is also a celebration of the harvest. Over this Festival of eight days, Jews will live in tents or booths or temporary shelters. They will eat and sleep in these booths built on balconies, or in their gardens, to remind people that for 40 years they had no permanent home
as they wandered in the wilderness, having been set free from slavery. We remember too when we come to the bread and wine. We also remember that this is when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, not the West Bank. “The word became flesh and tabernacled amongst us.” The Son of God assumed this temporary tent, this physical tabernacle, to redeem us and buy us back to God. This is a season for thanksgiving, when the people of God remember that God provided manna in the wilderness, and water from the rock, and today, rains for the crops to grow. This became a sacred week, and remains a sacred week.
The Church of Jesus Christ is a sign to society that there is a God, and a Saviour, and a way out of the bondage of sin. What a privilege to be chosen to be a sign in the world. To be chosen by God involves awesome responsibilities. In John Chapter 7, on the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus Christ calls out, “If any man is thirsty let him come to me and drink”. Jesus offers what is real, fresh, refreshing, and lasting. Be filled and overflow. Be a sign to the world.
We can learn from this how important it is to give time to God, to give thanks, and bring special offerings. It is a sign of how close people are to God when they come with offerings, not just of money, but time, commitment, service, worship. For over 3,000 years they have kept this Feast, in obedience to God.

Words by the Wayside “For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of His mouth cometh knowledge, and understanding.” (Proverbs 2:6)
Reader, faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. The Bible (God’s Word) is able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son (The Lord Jesus) that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life. www.wordsbythewayside.co.uk Registered Scottish charity SC041290

PARLIAMENT BLOG & TIDE TIMES Both the spotlight and the sun have shone on Scotland this summer. We holidayed in Lewis - or "Struay" as our six year old daughter called it, the home of Katie Morag! In the sunlight, the beaches there, as in Nairn, Lossie and along the Moray coast, rival those anywhere. This year, Scotland has risen to the challenge of hosting the Commonwealth Games, the Homecoming and Bannockburn Live and shortly, the Ryder Cup. But sadly, some people are deterred from coming to Scotland, by the UK tax on travel, Air Passenger Duty, the highest in the western world. Why? Because we in Scotland cannot decide our own tax policy. On September 18th we have a chance to claim what people in most other countries take for granted: The right to decide and determine our own affairs and accept the responsibility that comes with it. And to be a friendly country to our neighbours and the rest of the world.
I’m fortunate that as a Highland MP there has always been plenty to be proud of. But never before have we had quite so many of our Highland sportsmen and women making an impression on the world stage. Following the success of the 2012 Olympics in London, I was delighted to be at the opening of the Commonwealth Games last month. And I was privileged to be there to cheer on Stephanie Inglis in the judo. But I was not the only Highlander to travel to Glasgow to be there. It’s funny who you meet sometimes. But when I was out and about speaking to people in Milton of Leys, in July, I bumped into someone who was sitting just behind me! They were as excited as me to see Stephanie perform so well and bring a silver medal back to Inverness. As well as judo, Highland athletes competed in swimming, athletics, cycling, hockey, shooting and squash. I know that the whole of the Highlands is as proud as I am of them and their achievements.

UK FRANCHISE OF THE YEAR RUNNER UP
2013
End of Season Clear Out ! We’ve actually had an acceptable spring and summer around the Moray Firth. In fact, many folk had obviously forgotten about the sprinkler in the shed, and in the hot weather in July the grass dried out and browned off, just like any other plant if it isn’t watered. It’s usually a short-lived feature of our climate here though and most lawns will recover now. A lasting benefit of some dry weather though is we hope there will have been less moss growth this year.
If you don’t usually scarify your lawns, this autumn is a good time to do it as the moss is weaker than it has been for some years. Scarifying can be done by raking out the moss and thatch with a spring rake, or often these days with a scarifying machine. Either way, it is not for the faint hearted. Most people we scarify for are astonished at how much stuff comes out of their grass. We use machines, blowers and sweepers, but it’s still a 2 man job and can take hours (or days) ! Why does a lawn need scarified I hear you ask ? I think it’s rather like cleaning windows, you need to do it fairly regularly otherwise eventually you’ll have a rather filthy piece of glass, pretty useless as a window. It’s the same with the grass. Over time, it will fill up with old debris and form a layer of thatch, which in turn will increasingly provide the perfect habitat for moss to grow. Pretty soon, it’s more moss than grass it seems – a
12
lost cause. Actually no, even badly mossed lawns can be restored quite quickly, in time for next year in fact. Grass is very resilient (given a helping hand) and will survive much abuse. Why not make the most of our half-decent summer and have a go this autumn, or get us to give you a hand, our advice is completely free by the way.

My Wedding at Innes House Sheryl Milligan & Sean Dyer – 9th August 2014
Sheryl Milligan gives us an insight into her recent wedding at Innes House: Where did you meet? Sean and I met in the Abbey Arms in Kinloss, exactly 2 years to the day before we got married; a complete coincidence as we hadn’t realised it when we booked the wedding. Why Innes House? We chose Innes House because of its uniqueness. As they say in their brochure, there is an actual garden in their marquee! We wanted to get married outside because it was a breathtakingly beautiful setting for a wedding. The night before? Sean spent the night at my parent’s house with his wedding party and Uncles having a few drinks. We girls all stopped at Innes House for drinks and nibbles, as we were getting ready from there the following morning. Your ceremony? We wanted a religious Christian service, and our minister brought just the right amount of humour to it, settling both our nerves.
My Wife and I… I was quite nervous about Sean's speech but it was perfect. His words about me were beautiful and touched my heart; there wasn't a dry eye in the room. He paid my parents the credit they were due and got way more laughs than he expected. …and your food? We choose our menu based on our favourite foods, and we had to be rolled out of the tasting at the 1629 restaurant! On the day it was presented beautifully and enjoyed by all. Any star performers? The staff at Innes couldn’t do enough for us, but our photographer, John Baikie was absolutely fantastic; he risked life and limb up on the roof of the Innes tower to get the perfect sunset shot that he promised. Party Time… Our day was made complete by our perfect party. We had just the right music mix from our band and disco. The photo-booth was a big hit with the guests and it was all topped off with an amazing firework display. It hasn't quite sunk in yet that we are now Mr and Mrs Dyer. We are still sky high after the wedding of our dreams!

INNES HOUSE
Weddings and Corporate Entertainment A Unique place for any Occasion It is difficult to imagine a more romantic setting for your wedding than a 17th century house set in a sheltered walled garden. However, Innes is not just a stunning venue which you and your guests will never forget, but also offers a wholly flexible programme to enable you to plan your day exactly as you would like. Every wedding is unique and tailor-made for each couple. You may hold the ceremony here in the garden or in one of the two beautiful reception rooms. After the service your guests can wander around the gardens whilst you have your photographs taken in these tranquil, romantic surroundings. The reception and dinner may be held in the East Dining Room or larger parties can be held in our marquee extension which covers a walled garden complete with a summer house for the bar and a fountain around which the tables are set. After dinner you may enjoy dancing or other entertainment and then drive away down the tree lined avenue and look back on a magnificent floodlit house. Alternatively, you and some of your guests may stay the night in one of our splendidly appointed bedrooms and leave after a leisurely breakfast the next morning.
“Many venues have a marquee in their garden, but how many have a garden in their marquee…?”
