We Are Undressed

Based in the Town Hall, We Are Undressed is Trowbridge's first plastic free refill shop, and it's attracting customers from all across the area.

The shop sells a large variety of health foods, vegan items and organic dried foods: pulses and grains, herbs and spices, oils and vinegars, baking, cereals, fruit and nuts. Not only that but it offers refillable cleaning and hygiene liquids and a large range of sustainable non-food items.

We Are Undressed doesn’t sell anything in plastic packaging, everything comes in compostable, reusable packaging or is loose. You simply bring in your empty jars, tubs and bottles, buy the exact amount you want to purchase, pay and enjoy! The shop takes great pride in ensuring their prices are competitive.

Founder and manager of We Are Undressed, Leyla Bakali-Laughton says, “We opened in October 2019 on donations from the local community. We came together to say no to plastic packaging and the lack of sustainable options available in supermarkets. 2019 marked the year Wiltshire declared a Climate Emergency as well as Greta Thunberg, David Attenborough and multiple protests making big moves regarding our impact on the planet. Since opening we have created a large loyal customer base who come from all across the county, our stock range is growing month on month and we are starting important conversations with our community. We have done collaborations and events with local environmental groups, zero waste masterclasses as well as working with other local businesses.

“As a new mum, I felt a massive responsibility to do the best I could to give my daughter the best future, for me that was to make her future sustainable by removing all of the unnecessary 'conveniences' we have come to accept as normal. Instead we provide a platform to buy simple whole food ingredients where you cook from scratch, plan your spending better and not damage our beautiful planet. Our shop is open Tuesday to Saturday and we also offer an online shop with home delivery and a simple click and collect service."
