Supplies of fruit and vegetables are hit and miss in the supermarkets but we have been very fortunate in that our supply chain, even from the continent, has been pretty normal.

I hope you have carried on supporting local farm and village shops as much as possible over the summer, we have been keeping their shelves full of fresh stock, local wherever possible.

Obviously many people are eating out again as our restaurant and hotel trade has been busy and feeling back to some kind of normal.

A lot of pubs and restaurants have added rooms for B and B as demand has been high due to the staycation popularity this year.

One pub we supply turned their log house into one of the poshest B&B rooms I have ever seen. All hospitality businesses have had to look at any other streams of income that they have, so hopefully fingers crossed the future of our whole trade is bright.

With rain and sunshine at fairly good timings all of our local and UK produce has been plentiful and good. We have had the following veg from the local area to name a few: beetroot, spinach, potatoes, cabbage, cauliflower, watercress, chard, cavolo Nero and curly kale. And our fruit from Wye Valley has included strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, blackcurrants and redcurrant, early apples and juicy plums.

If you have a veg patch and have worked hard over the last few months then I think you would agree with me that you have had one of the best few weeks to admire and harvest your crops, either vegetables or flowers. There is still time to grow some salads and veg as you clear any crops to make the most of your plot. The space you have might only be as small as a window box or tub, but you can still achieve something. Just stick to something quite simple and easy like lettuce, rocket, spring onions, radish and winter salads.
