PUBLISHER'S CORNER PRIDE ANTHEMS TO CELEBRATE A HAPPY 50TH PRIDE It is hard to believe that almost half of 2019 has already gone by, and we will soon be celebrating our nation's Independence Day on July 4th. For this week's cover story, we interviewed fitness model Victor Javi, who left Havana, Cuba and came to the United States when he was 15 years old. We also included some very sexy photos taken by Jorge Freire from Photo Studio Miami during his recent photo shoot of Victor. Enjoy the photos! Since it's June, we should be breaking out our rainbow gear and celebrating LGBTQ Pride Month. This year, Pride Month is extra special because it marks the 50th Anniversary of the Stonewall Riots that started it all. It was during the night of June 28 half a century ago in New York City that fed up, courageous members of our LGBTQ community decided it was time to be seen and heard and fought back. Therefore, in Top Trax, we bring you some classic and contemporary Pride anthems to celebrate a happy 50th Pride. This week, we also include some fun photos from Saturday's Stonewall Pride in Wilton Manors. I invite you to visit wiremag.com and view our photopages with many more pics of people celebrating Pride in Wilton Manors. For this issue's Dining Delicious, I was very glad to attend a special family-style dinner at Toro Toro Restaurant & Bar and sample several of Executive Chef Jean Delgado's delicious new dishes and specialty cocktail oerings. Toro Toro is the Pan-Latin steakhouse located inside the InterContinental Miami in the heart of Downtown Miami. Its new menu showcases the flavors, techniques and culinary nuances from the cuisines of the Caribbean Islands and the Americas. In Destinations, we showcase the gay oasis of Bloomington, Indiana. This city is one of the most welcoming and gay-friendly small cities travel writer Joey Amato has ever been to, partially due to Indiana University and the LGBTQ initiatives they have implemented over the past few decades. Add to this a bohemian lifestyle among residents and Bloomington is a great destination to visit for a weekend getaway. In Flix, film critic Alyn Darnay reviews The Tomorrow Man, and tells us why two brilliant actors were locked in some trumped-up concoction of characters that have no possibility of being remotely real, in search of a compelling story that doesn't exist – proving that "great actors and great acting are never enough to make a bad story acceptable." This weekend is the new Wynwood Pride in Miami. You can learn more about what to expect by visiting wiremag.com to read our online article about Wynwood Pride, the events taking place and the entertainers who will be performing. Cheers,

TOP TRAX By DJ FR8-O

CO M E OU T, C OME OUT, W H E R EVER YOU ARE:

50 YEARS OF PRIDE!

"I'm Coming Out" (Barry Harris 2018 Remix) - Diana Ross Inspired after spotting three drag queens dressed as Diana Ross in a New York City club, Nile Rodgers penned this track for Miss Ross in 1980 for her self-titled album. Almost four decades later, it's still the seminal soundtrack of the LGBTQ community. "Supermodel" (You Better Work) - RuPaul Mama Ru sashayed drag culture into the forefront of pop in the early '90s with this iconic anthem and became the first multimedia drag superstar. Then, she did it again nearly 20 years later with her addictive reality show RuPaul's Drag Race. The category is (and always will be) Pride realness! "Boys Wear Pink" - Todrick Hall Ever since his American Idol debut in 2010, Todrick has been an unstoppable force; resident choreographer for RuPaul's Drag Race, starring in Broadway's Kinky Boots, Chicago, and selling out venues around the world with his dynamic live shows. His Pride can't help but shine through on this uplifting anthem. "So Am I" (Majestic Remix) - Ava Max She may be sweet and a little psycho, but that's why we love her! This unapologetic newcomer has been making lots of waves on the scene lately. She fearlessly flaunts her uniqueness every chance she gets and wants the rest of us to do the same, remembering that "It's ok to be different, cuz baby so am I."

une is here, and you know what that means. It's time to break out your rainbow gear and celebrate LGBTQ Pride Month! This year is extra special because it marks the 50th Anniversary of the historical moment that started it all – the Stonewall Riots. It was on that incendiary night on June 28 in New York City, that our community forefathers and mothers decided enough was enough, and it was time to be seen and heard. Since then, Pride Month has been about expressing our community's uniqueness for all the world to see; not hiding in the shadows in shame. However you decide to make yourself seen and heard on our golden anniversary, here are some classic and contemporary Pride anthems to back you up, honey. Happy 50th Pride!

"Proud" (Peter Presta QAF Mix) - Heather Small The ground-breaking TV show Queer As Folk pushed the LGBTQ community into the mainstream spotlight in Y2K. Not only did it show gay men and women falling in love (and in bed) together, it featured some of the most legendary gay anthems, like this one by M People's former frontwoman. "True Colors" - Cyndi Lauper Not all anthems need to be dance floor fillers. This multi-talented artist has been fighting for our community her entire career. She even started a foundation to help homeless LGBTQ youth, named after this very song. "Beautiful" (Peter Rauhofer Remix) - Christina Aguilera The core of LGBTQ Pride is celebrating what makes us different, despite what others think. Christina clearly understood that and wanted to make sure the world believed it too. The incredible Peter Rauhofer flawlessly took her message to the next level, leaving his own legacy for revelers to enjoy for generations to come. "A Deeper Love" (Sam Halabi Remix) - Aretha Franklin The world lost a treasure last summer, so it's only fitting that we celebrate the queen of soul this season. In 1994, her powerhouse voice became the voice of LGBTQ Prides across the globe. While the original still remains as flawless as ever, this remix gives it just enough of a polish to keep things fresh for the kids. "I Am What I Am" (Shep Pettibone Remix) - Gloria Gaynor Before there was The Birdcage there was La Cage Aux Folles. The "I Will Survive" singer covered the theme song from this famous Broadway musical in 1984, making it soar once again. 30 years later, legendary Producer Shep Pettibone gave it his magic touch, proving that – like the LGBTQ community – Gaynor truly is a survivor. "Born This Way" (any version) - Lady Gaga Since this anthem is all about diversity and inclusion, far be it from me to dictate which of the dozens of remixes out there is the best. Express your Pride to the deepest dance floor remix, the sexiest pool party mix, or even the laid back country version – just as long as you show it for another 50 years!

THE TOMORROW MAN nce upon a time, I actually thought great actors and great acting could make any film work. Then, I grew up and figured out that only a great story can make a film great, no matter how good the actors in it may be. Without a compelling script that captures the audience from the start and continues to hold them through to the end, all you're left with is wondering where is this story going and will it ever get there?

DESTINATIONS By Joey Amato

n the heart of Pence country lies a gay oasis that needs to be on everyone's list of places to visit. Bloomington, Indiana is one of the most welcoming and gay-friendly small cities I have ever traveled to, partially due to Indiana University and the LGBTQ initiatives they have implemented over the past few decades. This coupled with a bohemian lifestyle among residents makes it a great destination to visit for a weekend getaway.

Upon entering the grounds of the Cultural Center, one is instantly transported to a foreign land. Tibetan Stupas, a Choekor Pagoda and The Kumbum Chamtse Ling Monastery welcome guests as they wander the beautifully manicured property. While there, take the time to meditate and learn about Buddhist culture. To continue your tour of Tibet, head to Little Tibet, a restaurant located on 4th Street in Downtown Bloomington. The first stop on my trip of LGBTQ Bloomington was the Rainbow Bakery. Don't expect any fancy lattes here. Instead, order a drip coffee and one of their delectable doughnuts. I opted for the maple bacon doughnut and it was as delicious as it sounds. The bakery staff is welcoming, and the establishment is one of the favorite morning destinations among locals. The city of Bloomington has enacted a nondiscrimination policy which provides all citizens an equal opportunity for education, employment, access to public accommodations and housing. This policy is on top of Indiana University's policy, making Bloomington a very welcoming and safe place for LGBTQ people to live, work and study.

Bloomington is also home to The Kinsey Institute for Sex Research. Named for Dr. Alfred Kinsey, the Institute had two primary goals: to continue the team's research on human sexual behavior; and to administer research resources, including research materials, a library, case histories, and other related materials. Drs. Alfred Kinsey, Wardell Pomeroy, and Clyde Martin developed the Heterosexual-Homosexual Rating Scale – more commonly known as "The Kinsey Scale," which showed people did not fit into exclusive heterosexual or homosexual categories. Guests can visit The Kinsey Institute Collections, which encompass print materials, film and video, fine art, artifacts, and photography collected from six continents and spanning more than 2,000 years of human history. Indiana University also boasts an active LGBTQ+ Alumni Association, whose goal is to improve the quality of life for LGBTQ+ students, faculty, staff, and alumni of IU on all eight campuses of the university. The organization sponsors educational activities, provides information on activities and events of interest to the IU LGBTQ+ community and award grants to deserving LGBTQ+ students and student organizations. 20 WIREMAG.COM #13 2019

Not too far from campus is the Bloomington Salt Cave. It's not actually a cave, but it is the perfect place to unwind. A session includes a relaxing 45-minute stay in a room made up of Himalayan rock salt. The therapy is a proactive way to achieve overall health and wellness through the use of negative ions. Eastern Europeans have been using dry salt therapy for generations and there are now therapeutic salt caves all over the world.

If you need a break from your culture and history tour of Bloomington, head to Cardinal Spirits, a local distillery, and creator of Pride Vodka. While there, order one of their delicious hamburgers, which were cooked to perfection and quite filling. You won't leave hungry! In the mood for a drag show? Head to The Back Door, the city's only official gay bar. I say 'official' because many bars in the city are LGBTQ friendly and some locals mentioned a few others, but The Back Door is the only bar that bills itself as a gay establishment. While there, I had front row seats at their RuPaul's Drag Race-inspired competition, where they appointed Bloomington's next drag superstar. Bloomington is located about an hour outside of Indianapolis, so if you are visiting from the east or west coast, it would probably be easiest to fly into Indy and rent a car. I love exploring small LGBTQ-friendly towns and cities and Bloomington definitely didn't disappoint. It's surely one of the blue dots in Indiana. Enjoy the journey! RESTAURANT & BAR

have always enjoyed the food and cocktails at Toro Toro Restaurant & Bar, so I was happy to attend a special family-style dinner where I had the opportunity to sample several of Executive Chef Jean Delgado's delicious new dishes and specialty cocktail offerings that were a true celebration for all my senses. Toro Toro is the Pan-Latin steakhouse located inside the InterContinental Miami in the heart of Downtown Miami. Its new menu showcases the flavors, techniques and culinary nuances from the cuisines of the Caribbean Islands and the Americas.

My friend Robert and I started our Toro Toro feast with a couple of specialty cocktails, the Encierro crafted by Michael Lassandro with Woodford Reserve, Carpano Antica, Luxardo Maraschino, and walnut bitters in a smoked glass; and the Me Quemo with Don Q AĂąejo rum, Disaronno, almond milk, Coco Lopez, strawberry puree, pineapple, lime, Creole bitters, and torched anise. We sampled several delectable dishes from the cold and hot small plates: Grilled Octopus with cilantro sauce, salsa criolla, and fried yuca; Parmesan Crusted Sea Scallops with lemon butter sauce; Chicharron De Camarones with crispy shrimp, aji amarillo, avocado, and rocoto; Miyazaki Tartare with sweet chili, fried egg, and shaved radishes; Seared Ahi Tuna Tiradito Salad with frisĂŠe, pea tendrils, avocado cream, and wasabi

dressing; Beet Salad with pistachio, orange segments, ricotta cheese, and aji amarillo vinaigrette; and Arroz Chaufa with fried rice, chicken, chorizo, steak, egg, and vegetables. We then enjoyed some very enticing entrées from Toro Toro's Pan Latin Specials and Off The Wood-Burning Grill: Creekstone Farms - USDA Prime Beef 14 oz Prime Ribeye; Chipotle Miso Chilean Sea Bass with dashi broth, braised lettuce, asparagus, mushrooms, kabayaki sauce, and crispy lotus root; Family Size Chicken Paella with whole achiote chicken, sofrito, baby artichokes, and piquillo pepper; Charcoal Adobo Chicken with green rice, toasted almonds, cascabel jus, and grilled scallions; and Chuleta Kan Kan with arañitas, cilantro sauce, tomatillo kimchi, bibb lettuce, farrotto con gandules, and chorizo. For dessert, we loved the very appropriately named La Bomba, a scrumptious chocolate sphere with fresh berries, dulce de leche and strawberry ice cream, cream cheese mousse, almond cookie crumbs, caramel, vanilla, and berry sauce.
