PUBLISHER’S CORNER HAPPY THANKSGIVING & ENJOY MIAMI ART WEEK!
Welcome to our annual Wire Magazine Miami Art Week Guide. The Guide helps our readers plan the art fairs they would like to attend to peruse through all the artworks that will be on display in our Magic City, and maybe even buy some of your favorite pieces. Our cosmopolitan city will be as busy as ever with artists, gallery owners, collectors, members of the press, and art enthusiasts from all over the world visiting Miami and Miami Beach for our yearly Art Week.
I have loved art all my life, so I will personally take advantage of this time of the year to visit my favorite fairs. Having visited some of the top art museums in the world, I look forward every year to seeing some of the best works by famous artists right here in Miami. We are very lucky that works that sometimes have been in the hands of private galleries and private collectors for years will be on exhibit during Miami Art Week for all of us to enjoy. Take advantage of this fact and visit your favorite fairs.
In this month’s issue, we feature the stunning, artistic work of costume designer Michael Sui, showcased by our beautiful cover model Darian Alvarez. Michael is very talented, and he often times creates costumes for gorgeous men that love his work. In Out & About, we tell you about the URGE Miami Festival starting this Friday with some of the world’s most famous circuit DJs ready to entertain you. Thousands of hot guys will be partying at the Festival and enjoying the electrifying music from these DJs. Arts Newsie previews the Broadway musical Some Like It Hot, winner of four Tony Awards, including Best Choreography and Best Costumes, and the Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album, coming to the Adrienne Arsht Center.
A challenging year is coming to an end, but the fight for our rights must continue because it truly never ends. There will be new people in Washington and across state capitals that will try to set us back because they believe in discriminating against members of our community. In our nation, everyone has the same rights under the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, despite the fact that some people believe their religious beliefs or personal opinions can be imposed on others. We cannot let that happen and have to remain active, vigilant, and vocal to ensure that is not the case. The good news is that there are also many great people and supportive allies that will stand beside us in the upcoming fights and our continued struggle for LGBTQ rights.
Have a great and very happy Thanksgiving! I wish you the very best and hope that you will be surrounded by the love from your family and friends.
Cheers,
Rafa Carvajal Publisher & Editor in Chief rafa@wiremag.com

Rafa Carvajal: How did you become a costume designer?
Michael Sui: Originally, I earned my degree as a fashion designer working in NYC with many 7th Avenue designers. When the market shifted in the mid 2000’s and designers got pushed out of companies because of budget cuts, I had to reinvent myself. I was always interested in costume design Bob Mackie style!

RC: What goes into creating such elaborate costumes?
MS: Time, time, time to crystal everything by hand, paint, find pieces at flea markets that can be reimagined and repurposed to create a new vision.
RC: Tell our readers about the costumes you designed for this photoshoot.
MS: The pieces used in today’s shoot were gladiator inspired. I love armor that has been crystalized or sandals that have been embellished with rhinestones. It’s the best of both worlds. The masculine/feminine effect.
RC: What do you enjoy the most about designing such beautiful costumes?
MS: Honestly seeing it live on a model and watching it come to life. I love my mannequin but once it’s on a human form, and a handsome well-built human form, well, that’s icing on the cake for me. Yum! Also, when I sell a particular look or piece it gives me great joy in knowing someone appreciates my hard work and effort. Knowing that a client will enjoy and take care of one of my creations is like finding a good home for my babies!
RC: What was your inspiration to design these costumes?
MS: I always design individual pieces that I can mix and match together. Giving texture to items is always visually more interesting. It’s a design principle that I learned from my discipline in fashion.
RC: Is there anything else you would like to share with Wire Magazine readers?
MS: Thank goodness for Wire Magazine. Without you my work wouldn’t get to be viewed by the public. The market for magazines is so small now, and it’s really unfortunate. We should always celebrate artists, models, photographers, stylists whenever we can. Thank you Wire Magazine for this opportunity.

DINING DELICIOUS

PALACE BAR DELIVERS A FRESH & FLAVORFUL NEW MENU AND GREAT ENTERTAINMENT
Palace Bar is world famous for its fabulous drag shows on South Beach’s Ocean Drive, but you should also visit to enjoy its delectable new fall/winter food menu crafted by the culinary team of Executive Chef Guerline Charles and new Executive Sous Chef Carlos Duque featuring fresh, seasonal dishes prepared with quality ingredients. For over 36 years, Palace has been providing memorable experiences for local, national, and international guests. I had dinner at Palace on a recent Friday evening with my dear friend Joey Wurmann to taste some of Palace’s delicious, new menu items and craft cocktails, while enjoying several vibrant, super fun drag performances by Palace’s very talented performers.
We started our evening with a couple of Palace’s craft cocktails: the Smoked Fashionista with Woodinville Bourbon, Averna, demerara, and orange & black bitters; and the Life’s A Drag with Patron Silver, Aperol, Strega, hot honey, peach, and lemon. For our dinner appetizers, we enjoyed the Quesadiva with 12-hour braised chicken, accompanied by house made pico de gallo, guacamole, and sour cream; and Tuna Tartare with fresh daily, mango, and cucumber, topped with avocado and spicy mayo as garnish. Our entrées, were the
Chicken Marsala with tender, pan-seared chicken breast nestles atop creamy polenta, accompanied by a savory mix of sautéed mushrooms, garlic, and shallots, Marsala wine and cream sauce, and finished with a crispy prosciutto garnish; Flame Grilled Salmon, with red skin mash potato, charred broccolini, and carper blanc sauce; and House-Made Butternut Squash Ravioli filled with sweet roasted squash and fragrant sage, tossed in rich brown butter. For desserts, we indulged on Molton Lava Cake with bitter chocolate and delicate sweet creamy center in a soft chocolate cake served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream; and Cheesecake Brûlée New York style cheesecake with berries sauce, and caramelized sugar.
I also sat down with Executive Chef Guerline Charles, Executive Sous Chef Carlos Duque, and General Manager AJ Prasaguet to learn more about why Palace is such a popular destination to experience the three D’s: dining, drinking and drag!
Rafa Carvajal: What makes dining at Palace such a delightful experience?
AJ Prasaguet: Dining at Palace is an exciting experience that starts with its vibrant ambiance! The stylish decor and cozy lighting create the perfect atmosphere for a fun night out, whether you're celebrating with friends or enjoying a romantic dinner. The real magic happens with the food! The menu is bursting with delicious dishes made from top-notch ingredients, ensuring every bite is a delight. Plus, the friendly staff makes you feel right at home, always ready to offer great recommendations. With fantastic food and a lively atmosphere, dining at the Palace is always a memorable adventure along with dazzling entertainment.
RC: What are your favorite Palace dinner dishes?
AJP: My favorite Palace dinner dishes include the Chicken Marsala and the Grilled Calamari. The Chicken Marsala is a standout for me because of its rich flavors; the tender chicken paired with the sweet Marsala wine sauce creates a delightful combination that really showcases the culinary skills of the kitchen. On the other hand, the Grilled Calamari is a dish I always look forward to. It's perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection, with a nice char that enhances its natural flavors. The accompanying chimichurri sauce adds a refreshing touch that complements the dish beautifully. Together, these dishes represent a wonderful balance of flavors and textures that make dining at the Palace a truly enjoyable experience.
RC: Describe dining at Palace in three words.
AJP: Flirtatious, exquisite, memorable.
RC: How did you create your Palace menu dishes?
Chef Guerline Charles: Our menu is designed with a deep respect for the flavors and cultures that South Beach embodies. I aim to bring together vibrant, tropical ingredients with my own twist on comfort foods, always balancing taste and texture. It’s a journey from the first bite to the last, and I love creating that experience for our guests.
Chef Carlos Duque: My inspiration comes from my roots in Colombia and my passion for fine dining. At Palace, I bring bold flavors with refined techniques, using only the freshest ingredients. Each dish is a collaboration between Guerline and I, fusing our backgrounds to create unique, unforgettable tastes.
to every step, infusing a bit of ourselves and our culture into the food. It’s about making each meal memorable and ensuring every plate reflects our dedication.
CD: Quality is everything. We source high-grade, local ingredients whenever possible and prioritize freshness and flavor. We also make sure each ingredient on the plate enhances the next, allowing the natural flavors to shine through in every dish.
RC: How would you describe the Palace dining experience to our readers?
GC: Dining at Palace is like entering an escape from the ordinary — it’s bold, exciting, and unforgettable. You’re not only getting a meal; you’re part of an experience that’s alive with energy, creativity, and connection. Plus, with our drag shows and rooftop events, the vibe is unmatched.
CD: The experience here is one of a kind. We bring together fine dining with vibrant entertainment, and our team is passionate about making each night exceptional. At Palace, the food, the people, and the atmosphere come together to create something extraordinary.
RC: Is there anything else you would like to share with Wire Magazine readers?
GC: We invite everyone to come and feel the love and passion we pour into every dish. We’re excited to share what we’ve created in Miami, and we’re looking forward to seeing new faces and making new memories every night at Palace.
What makes the different dishes so high quality and tasteful?

CD: Palace Bar is all about celebrating life, culture, and food. We love creating that atmosphere where everyone feels at home, and we can’t wait to welcome more guests to experience the flavors and the energy that make Palace so special.
