PUBLISHER’S CORNER DO NOT LET A WOLF IN SHEEP’S CLOTHING FOOL YOU
For centuries, people have been warned to watch out for false prophets and not let a wolf in sheep’s clothing fool you. Trump’s speech at the Republican Convention was the perfect example of that. Claiming his speech would be about national unity, Trump instead quickly deviated from the prepared remarks he was initially reading from the teleprompters to his usual MAGA rhetoric and lies. Since he can never help himself, Trump went on to ramble for a record-breaking 92+ minutes to re-state many of his lies, tyrannical ideas, and confusing statements from his MAGA rallies.
Trump reverted to his MAGA demagogy because of who he is and what he believes in, but also because of his diminished mental capacity that makes him repeat the same things over and over. Trump is now the oldest person to run for president in the United States at 78 years old — exactly twice the age of the candidate he picked as his running mate. Trump’s diminished mental capacity is further demonstrated by multiple instances when he has confused Nikki Haley with Nancy Pelosi, President Biden with President Obama, Apple CEO Tim Cook with Tim Apple, just to name a few examples. Trump also often says he doesn’t know people who worked for him or states he barely knows them, another clear example of his diminished mental capacity. These are all factual examples, like those we saw with Presidents Biden and Reagan.
In terms of Trump and his MAGA supporters’ agenda for a second term, in typical conman, pathological liar fashion, Trump denies knowing anything about Project 2025 (project2025.org). But we all know Trump lies constantly because we have watched him do it countless times on live TV — way too many lies to include in this month’s issue of Wire Magazine! There is absolutely no doubt that what Trump and his backers want to do with Project 2025 is atrocious, so get informed about it.
According to the venerated Scientific American, “Project 2025, the sweeping right-wing blueprint for a new kind of U.S. presidency, would sabotage science-based policies that address climate change, the environment, abortion, health care access, technology, and education. It would impose religious and conservative ideology on the federal civil service to such an extent that Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has, dubiously, tried to distance himself from the plan. But in 2022 Trump said the Heritage Foundation — the think tank that authored Project 2025 — would ‘lay the groundwork and detail plans for exactly what our movement will do.’ The project’s main document, a lengthy policy agenda, was published the following year.” Additionally, over half of the Project 2025 authors are appointees and staff from Trump’s time as president; and the words ‘Trump’ and ‘Trump Administration’ appear 300 times in the pages of Project 2025.

Rafa Carvajal: What are you doing for a living these days?
Steve Grand: As of 2020, GRAND-AXIS is my full-time job! I was a full-time singersongwriter before then. I started GRAND-AXIS as a side project, but when the world shut down in the spring of 2020 and I could no longer perform live, GRAND-AXIS became my fulltime gig.
RC: What do you enjoy the most about your life?
SG: I enjoy the freedom and flexibility to make a living pursuing my dreams. Though it’s a blessing and a curse. I’ve avoided ever having an office job or a boss, but it can be difficult not having the structure that comes with that sort of employment.
RC: What are your top three exercises to stay in great shape?
SG: It’s hard to pick just three top exercises. I would say that large compound exercises like squats are great because they are demanding on the body (in a good way, when done correctly) and force your body to rise to the occasion.
RC: What is your most important professional project you are currently focusing on?
SG: I’m working on a new underwear collection with GRAND-AXIS as we speak!
RC: What foods are your favorite to eat?
SG: I really love all kinds of foods as long as there is a lot of protein. I love a great cut of steak. But if I’m not worried about carbs/calories, I love pizza!
RC: What advice would you give a young gay singer-songwriter just starting his career?
SG: Learn to delegate. Don’t try and do it all. Spend most of your time focused on your craft: Songwriting, performing, and singing. Then take some time to find good producers, managers, and folks to help with social media. Also, write songs to completion then move on to your next song. Don’t spend all your time trying to perfect a handful of songs. You don’t want to spend all your time forever refining a handful of songs when you could be missing out on writing your next great song.
RC: What are your favorite hobbies?
SG: I really love to learn. History, politics, culture, philosophy. I consume a lot of information through YouTube and podcasts.
RC: What makes you happy?
SG: I think life is all about the company you keep, and I feel so fortunate to have such a great core group of friends. Whether we are hanging at the beach, or are just sitting around in the living room… I love our discussions about politics, culture, philosophy. Our lives have taken such different trajectories, but my friends are all very thoughtful and intelligent and always offer illuminating perspectives.
RC: Is there anything else you would like to share with Wire Magazine readers?
SG: Thanks so much for chatting with me! Follow my journey on my social media accounts! Instagram: @SteveGrandMusic, @GrandAxis. Twitter: @SteveGrandMusic, @Grand_Axis. TikTok: @SteveGrandMusic, @GrandAxis.

FIVE BASIC STEPS FOR DELICIOUS SIZZLING STEAK
A sizzling steak is a surefire sound of summer, and the flavors achieved from one that’s perfectly grilled are hard to match.
Before you fire up your grill, consider these five basics for cooking a chef-worthy steak:
Prepare Your Cut
Taste preferences (and prices) may differ among sirloins, ribeyes, T-bones and more, but the way you prepare steaks likely won’t change much from cut to cut. You’ll want to trim the thickness down to 1/2-1 inch for proper cooking, and setting the meat out ahead of time allows it to warm to room temperature before hitting the grill. Placing a refrigerator-cool slab on hot grates works against you in two ways: first, the cold meat instantly chills your previously warm grill, and second, the inner portion of the steak will take longer to grill.
Add Some Salt
Feel free to add any spices that you prefer but remember a good steak typically doesn’t require fancy seasoning – a pinch of salt works just fine. Add your salt anywhere between 30 minutes to a few hours before grilling time to help retain moisture and improve flavor.
Aim for High Heat
Grilling a steak correctly actually isn’t just about maintaining a sweltering flame. A two-zone fire is usually the way to go –one side of the grill should be hot (using direct heat) with the other side not quite as warm (indirect heat). This allows you to create a sear over direct heat before finishing cooking through – without burning – over indirect heat.
Sear and Slide
Speaking of searing: Cooking your steak over direct heat 1-2 minutes on each side is normally about right for creating a proper sear. At this point, depending on the thickness of your steak, you’ll want to check for doneness. If it’s not quite to the temperature you’re looking to achieve, simply slide it over to the indirect heat for a finishing touch.
Keep in mind these general guidelines for doneness: 120-125°F is rare, 130-135°F is medium-rare, 140-145°F is medium, 150-155°F is medium-well and 160-175°F is well done.
Let Rest
Finally, as hungry as you may be at this point, resting steaks is an important last step before diving in. Giving your steaks 5-10 minutes (foil or no foil) allows flavors to redistribute and moisture to be retained in the meat.
