ome memories never fade and a great film sometimes has a way of making them all that more vivid. One I'll never forget is racing through the canyons of Beverley, Coldwater, Laurel, and Topanga in my brand new GT 350 Ford Shelby Mustang. Sure wish I still owned that car, it has always been my favorite and fastest. Thank you, Carroll Shelby, for a lifetime of memories. Carroll Shelby, if you didn't know, was an American automotive designer, race driver, and entrepreneur. During his racing career, he drove for the Aston Martin and Maserati teams and was named Sports Illustrated's Driver of the Year in both 1956 and 1957. Before retiring from racing in 1959 due to health problems, he and co-driver Roy Salvadori won the grueling '24 Hour of Le Mans' Race. He then turned his talents to modifying and building highperformance sports cars. All of that aside, this high-performance film is about how he and his friend Ken Miles, a British born sports car racing engineer and driver, got involved with the Ford Motor Company and what they struggled to accomplish together. It's a story, a film, and two brilliant performances you'll find yourself totally wrapped up in. Here's the storyline… In 1963, in order to combat lagging car sales and at the suggestion of corporate executive Lee Iacocca (Bernthal), The Ford Motor Company decided to boost its image by getting into the international racing game. When Henry Ford II's (McKinnon) bid to buy out Ferrari falls flat and he is personally insulted by Enzo Ferrari, Ford's racing division is tasked with building a car that can beat the venerable Italian Company at Le Mans, the world's oldest active sports car endurance race which has been dominated by Ferrari's powerful machines. Knowing that they can't do it without first-hand knowledge of racing and race cars, the Ford executives turn to Carroll Shelby (Damon) to head up the design and construction of a vehicle strong enough and powerful enough to win the prestigious race. Knowing he'll need the talents of someone with real racing genius to pull off this almost insurmountable task, Shelby turns to his friend, race driver, and engineer, Ken Miles (Bale) for help. Expecting to have control over the construction and racing of the new vehicle, the boys soon find out what life under the thumb of unknowledgeable overseers is like. Together they battle corporate politics, company interference, the laws of physics, and their own personal demons in pursuit of mechanical perfection.
If you're a racing fan, like fast cars, love to drive, or if you like great underdog stories, exciting action-filled movies, or great acting performances, this is your film. Director James Mangold has created an instant classic, one you'll remember for a long, long time. It's definitely Oscar-worthy for Best Picture of the Year. Christian Bale gives us another brilliant characterization and is the perfect foil for Matt Damon's stellar performance as Shelby. It's almost impossible to separate one from the other; they are two co-joined pieces of the same puzzle. Give them both the Oscar right now, and be done with the wait. Or just give the whole cast an Oscar for Best Ensemble; they are all really that good. My take… Ford v Ferrari is by every measure a great film, the kind they rarely make anymore. Rev your engine, throw yourself into first gear, and lay some rubber as you take off to see it! FORD V FERRARI Rating: 5 stars (out of 5) Rated: PG-13 (for some language and peril)

eemed as "the world's biggest international gay event," Circuit Festival returns to Miami this Thanksgiving weekend, November 28 through December 2. Last year's Festival was a resounding success jammed packed with hot men, so get ready to dance again in exciting events full of gorgeous partygoers. The fivenight, four-day Festival is made possible by Luis Morera, Billy Kemp and Hilton Wolman, the creators of the Miami party brand URGE. DJ RICK BRAILE Rafa Carvajal: Why did you decide to DJ at Circuit Festival Miami 2019? DJ Rick Braile: I'm so excited to be invited to play for the first time at Circuit Festival Miami because I've heard so many good things about this event and I'm super happy to be part of it this year. RC: What is the best part of DJing at a festival of this magnitude? DJRB: The best part is to have the opportunity to show my work to so many people around the world and feel the energy that only Circuit Festival Miami can provide to you when you are playing. RC: What kind of sets are you getting ready for the Festival? DJRB: I will play at the pool party, so I'm bringing a lot of energetic vocals, mixed with exciting drums to make the people have fun and enjoy the day. RC: Is there anything else you would like to share with Wire Magazine readers? DJ ENRICO MELONI Rafa Carvajal: Why did you decide to DJ at Circuit Festival Miami 2019? DJ Enrico Meloni: During the year, there are gigs and very special gigs. Circuit Festival Miami is a very special gig. Before becoming a DJ, I was a huge Circuit Festival fan from the first edition in Barcelona. Now, to play at Circuit Festival Miami is a dream come true. RC: What is the best part of DJing at a festival of this magnitude? DJEM: There are so many. It's always special when you play at a big festival. It's amazing to be far from your hometown and having people know you, your music, and come listen. It is really fantastic to be able to express yourself and have people understand it. That's the best part of touring. RC: What kind of sets are you getting ready for the Festival? DJEM: My sets are always very energetic. I try to communicate emotions that give people goosebumps. I love to play tracks with vocals, good melodies, and tribal drums. For Circuit Festival Miami, I'm finishing some new remixes that I will present for the very first time. Except for my original tracks, I don't select the music that I'll play prior to the event. I prefer to wait and see the audience, the club and the energy of the night. Improvisation is what keeps things interesting.

RC: Is there anything else you would like to share with Wire Magazine readers? DJEM: I think being a DJ is very tiring, you are always traveling and the expectations about you are very high. However, for me, it is the most beautiful job in the world. It allows you to discover new people, places, cultures, and lifestyles every day. The people who follow you are all different but always fantastic in their differences.

he Cake by Bekah Brunstetter heads to the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County December 5-22, 2019, in the Carnival Studio Theater (Ziff Ballet Opera House). Bekah Brunstetter is the writer and producer of the hit TV series This Is Us, and The Cake is just as emotional and hilarious. Inspired by the Supreme Court case, the play follows the story of Della, a baker who is in a sudden conundrum when a girl she helped raise asks her to make a wedding cake for her and her soon to be wife. Michael Bustamante: Tell our readers about The Cake and what it is about. Margaret Ledford: The Cake by Bekah Brunsetter is about Della, a North Carolina Baker, who after learning that her deceased best friend's daughter is marrying Supreme Court. We sat down with Artistic Director Margaret Ledford to discuss The Cake and the importance of having plays with LGBTQ storylines.

MB: As the director of The Cake, what is your favorite scene from the play, and why? ML: I am a southern girl, I identify so strongly with the character of Jen in having southern roots, but with a more worldly spirit. She is torn between where she came from and who she is. In a beautiful and funny scene between Jen and her wife to be Macy, Jen explains that she is split between both of these worlds and it is both heartbreaking and funny. I love it because it speaks so strongly to me and mirrors my own experience of loving my southern roots and not being like my family at all. MB: What would you like audience members to take away from The Cake? ML: A deeper understanding of themselves and how the choices they make ripple out into the world. I also hope for a better understanding of people that do not hold the same viewpoint as they do – increased compassion for humanity as a whole. As well as a lot of laughs and cake! MB: How important do you think it is to have plays with LGBTQ storylines? ML: Extremely! Especially in Miami where we are a melting pot of cultures and different ways of life that often stay in different siloes from each other. MB: Is there anything else you would like to share with Wire Magazine readers? ML: City Theatre will be hosting post-performance discussions about the play and its topics and themes following our Sunday performances on the 15 and 22. And get your tickets quick!
