Latin is a fun and energetic dance that can be done to a wide variety of music. Learn the steps to popular Latin dances, including the Merengue, Salsa, Cha-Cha and more. Leave class feeling confident in your ability to dance to virtually any Latin dance. Covers basic step patterns, musicality, leading and following and some styling. 5 Meetings. Learn to Dance – Social Turns & Dips Learn the turns and dips that add flair to the dances that are most useful in social settings - nightclub dancing, dancing at wedding receptions, holiday parties, and benefit galas. Country Western Two-Step With Country Western Two-Step, the primary partner dance to country western music, we bring one of Texas’s favorite dances to Wisconsin. With the great moves you’ll learn here, you’ll be prepared to dance to much of the country music that is played today. Creative Movement Scottish Ceilidh Dancing

Get your exercise in a fun way by learning the fast-paced jigs and reels of Scotland. With just a few basics, you’ll soon be dancing Scotland’s traditional and modern dances, accompanied by stirring fiddle and piano music. Quilled Holiday Ornaments Quilling, or paper filigree, is an art form that uses of strips of paper rolled, shaped, and glued together to create unique decorative designs. The paper, wound around a “quill” to create basic shapes is glued and these shaped coils can be arranged to form holiday ornaments, flowers, leaves, and other decorative patterns. A Filmmaker’s Journey: Rick Ray Reflects Join accomplished director and cinematographer, Rick Ray, for this lunch-time presentation. He will share what motivated him to become a filmmaker to begin with and reflect on one of the highpoints of his career – a one hour, solo meeting with His Holiness the Dalai Lama – as part of creating his film “Ten Questions for the Dali Lama.” Finally Rick will discuss the creation of his latest film “East African Safari” which will have its world premiere in the Union Theater March 21 and 22 as a part of the Union Theater’s 51st Travel Adventure Film Series. In the film Rick offers insights into the global implications of the political and social conditions of this region while offering incredible visual imagery of East Africa. Sandhill Crane Weekend Odyssey The staging of Sandhill Cranes at the Jasper-Pulaski National Wildlife Area in northern Indiana is one of the more imposing spectacles in all of nature. Play Time Curling – Rocks on Ice Explore one of the fastest growing winter and Olympic sports. Learn how to play this exciting and intriguing game. Originating in Scotland, curling is a game in which two teams of four players each slide curling stones over a stretch of (indoor) ice toward a target circle. Learn the fundamentals of stone delivery: alignment, timing, balance, and release; and proper sweeping technique, one of the key elements of the game. Glass Fusing: Jewelry & More!

The Craftshop, “where art is a verb,” was the first open studio arts facility ever opened in a college union. Located on the fourth floor of Memorial Union, working media include ceramics, woodworking, traditional b&w photography, art metals, stained glass, glass fusing and more. Need instruction, take the Mini Course. Know enough and looking for the space and tools to work, the Craftshop sells access permits by the semester, half-semester and hourly. Facilities maybe shared during class time. Most multi-session courses based in the Craftshop include a permit so you can use the facility outside of class time.

Explore glass as an art material. Using a process of melting pieces of glass together in a kiln, you can create unique jewelry, buttons, colorful bowls, plates, tiles, even three-dimensional glass forms. The Lake Street Ramp has entrances on Lake St and Frances St between University Ave and State St. Metered parking is available in Lot 6 under HC White, in Lot 7 under Grainger Hall, and in Lot 46 on W Johnson St. Pay-on-entering parking is available in Lot 17 off Engineering Dr. and in Lot 20 off the 1400 block of University Ave. Free parking for courses at UW Hospital in lots 85, 82, 60 and 76. Free parking is available in some University lots after 5pm, but be sure to check signs at the entrance to each lot for regulations. The Mini Course Office is not responsible for parking citations caused by failure to follow parking regulations Large events at the Kohl Center and other campus activities can dramatically affect parking availability and cost. TO RECEIVE A REFUND, NOTICE MUST BE RECEIVED BY OUR OFFICE THREE (3) BUSINESS DAYS BEFORE THE FIRST CLASS MEETING. No refunds for inability to attend published rain dates. What about Transfers and Credit Vouchers? Transfers and Credit Vouchers are possible up to three business days prior to the starting date of any course.
