Yoga, derived from the Sanskrit word yuj, meaning, union of the individual consciousness or soul with the Universal Consciousness or Spirit.

Y

oga is a more than 5000 year old Indian body of knowledge. Many think of yoga only as a physical exercise, where people twist, turn, stretch and breathe in the most complex ways, these are actually the most superficial aspect of this profound science of unfolding the infinite potentials of the human mind and soul. Yoga is an ancient physical, mental and spiritual practice that originated in India.

Noise around the exit of RBI Governor

Raghuram Rajan WWW.AZWISHESH.COM | JULY 2016

Reserve Bank of India Governor Raghuram Rajan has chosen the best and most dignified way out of a situation that was getting increasingly ugly by declaring that he will not seek a second term after his first ends in September. Over the last few months, his ‘extension’ became the subject of fevered speculation. The complaints against Mr. Rajan varied — they included the relatively trifling (his choice of words and plain-speaking ways), the debatable but substantive (his unwillingness to lower interest rates despite stable macro-economic indicators), and the indisputably ridiculous (his alleged lack of commitment to India). Rajan earned encomiums for his views on several occasions from international audiences, but he did not enjoy the same reception very often back home in India. The Centre’s uneasiness stemmed from what it believed was an important reason for the economy not taking off as fast as it could have. The slow pace of interest rate cuts, a result of what Mr. Rajan saw as fresh or rising inflationary pressures, is on that list. The central bank’s

crackdown on the evergreening of loans, forcing banks to acknowledge the bad loans rather than throw more good money after bad, has led to record losses across the public sector banking system. This has been another source of friction. The Centre must remember that the central bank, by its very remit, is concerned about inflation and that the country needs a Governor with enough independence and authority to maintain

a balance between the aspirations for the growth and concern about rising prices. It is also imperative that the new central bank chief should have a free hand in charting a course to fix bank’s books so that they can begin lending again. Mr. Rajan himself have said that, if the two always agreed, the public should be very worried.

After arriving at the club by van, Omar Mateen approached the building on foot, armed with a SIG Sauer MCX semi-automatic rifle and a 9mm Glock 17 handgun. A uniformed Orlando Police Department (OPD) officer working extra duty engaged Mateen, by

At 2:45 a.m., Mateen called News 13 of Orlando and said, “I am the shooter.” He then claimed his attack is for the Islamic State and began speaking rapidly in Arabic. Narendra Modi’s 5 Nation visit

28

The nutshell of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 5 nation tour is a 140-hour long trip covering five nations including the US, 45-plus engagements over five days and flying for nearly 44 hours, bulk of it at night, to cover nearly 33,000 kilometers.

U

The new thumb rule dictated by Modi in his recent trips is - not staying the night in a foreign land if no engagement is scheduled in that country the next day and rather use the night for air travel to the next destination for achieving shorter trips. “5 countries, 45-plus meetings... be it here or at home, I am doing country’s work,” Modi said at a community event in Doha. “At about 8-9 engagements tightly packed back-to-back into each day, these are the busiest PM foreign trips,” a senior Prime Minister’s office functionary said.

WWW.AZWISHESH.COM | JULY 2016

The PM had the maximum engagements - 16 at last count - in the US in the 48 hours he spends in Washington. This included the important meeting with US President Barack Obama, address to the Joint Session of the US Congress, a Congressional reception and meeting,

“Late night arrival is followed by an early morning engagement,” MEA spokesperson Vikas Swaroop said. On Modi’s arrival in Geneva at around 3 AM Switzerland time and meeting with the Swiss President SchneiderAmmann eight hours later on Monday. “In under half a day, PM completes visit and emplanes for Washington D.C,” Swaroop tweeted later.

Senior Government officials said that checkin baggage of the entire Indian delegation did not come off the PM’s plane in Afghanistan and Switzerland, and had not in Mexico as well.

Registration of

NBFCs

made easy The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has simplified the process of registration of new non-banking finance companies (NBFCs) by reducing the application form and the checklist of documents from the existing set of 45 documents to just seven and in some cases eight.

WWW.AZWISHESH.COM | JULY 2016

Deposit taking and nondeposit taking NBFCs would have separate applications forms so that the registrations can be expedited faster. RBI statement said that, “This is being done so that the registration of new NBFCs would be smoother and hassle-free. The RBI, may, if necessary, call for any further documents to satisfy itself on the eligibility of the company seeking registration as NBFC. In the event of the RBI calling for further documents, the applicant must respond within a stipulated time of one month.” “As these companies will not have access to public fund and will not have customer interface, they will be subjected to less intensive

scrutiny or due diligence,” RBI said in a note. “This has been done to make the process of registration of new Non Banking Financial Companies (NBFCs) “smoother and hassle free””, RBI said. “Secondly, from now onwards, there would be two different types of applications for non-deposit taking NBFCs (NBFC-ND) based on Sources of Funds and Customer Interface,” it added. The processing applications of non-deposit taking NBFCs would be on the fast-track mode, as these companies will not have access to public fund and will not have customer interface. They will be subjected to less intensive scrutiny and due diligence. The scrutiny for the deposit

taking NBFCs and those who have a customer interface would be more elaborate and hence require a separate application form. RBI has been converging regulations for NBFCs on the lines of its banking sector rules as the difference between the NBFCs and the banks get blurred. NBFCs like banks are now into infrastructure financing and housing financing, agriculture financing and meeting the funding needs of the micro, small and medium enterprises. The changes in the registration process of NBFCs is in line with the announcement made in the first bi-monthly monetary policy statement, 2016-17 of simplifying procedures for the sector. NRI IMMIGRATION

32

U.K., rising

immigration levels have galvanized Brexit Rising immigration has been fueling anti-EU sentiment in the U.K., just as similar concerns have fostered frustration with political elites in the U.S. and across Europe. Rising immigration levels have galvanized the debate about the country’s ties to the Continent.

WWW.AZWISHESH.COM | JULY 2016

Britons are uncomfortable about the rise in immigration and blame the European Union membership for allowing unfettered arrivals from Europe. Others see the issue as an indication that Brussels has too much say over the Britain in general, that the EU is unaccountable and that membership, at £8 billion a year ($11.6 billion), is too costly.

There are good ways of controlling migration, and one of them is the important rules we’re bringing in so people don’t get instant access to our welfare system

Under EU rules, anyone from the bloc can live and work in any EU member state. Those lobbying for Britain’s exit say that is the only way the country can control its borders. Immigration in the U.K. has risen sharply over the past decade or so, particularly in the wake of the EU’s expansion eastward to include countries such as Poland, Lithuania and Romania. Its relatively strong economic performance has drawn many EU citizens looking to escape the sluggishness that has beset the wider region. Boston, a medieval town some 110 miles north of London, has seen the biggest percentage of increase in immigrants between 2001 and 2011 of anywhere in England and Wales, with numbers increasing nearly sixfold since

the early 2000s, according to Migration Observatory, an independent analysis center at the University of Oxford. Immigration critics say that it is contributing to the erosion of British traditions, values and way of life, while placing pressure on Britain’s public resources and infrastructure. “There are good ways of controlling migration, and one of them is the important rules we’re bringing in so people don’t get instant access to our welfare system,” Mr. Cameron

said in Parliament. “But there are bad ways of controlling immigration. Leaving the single market and wrecking our economy is certainly one of them.” “Immigration is a powerful symbol of our lack of control,” says Boris Johnson, London’s former mayor and the most prominent politician campaigning for the U.K. to leave the EU. “It shows just how much we’ve abdicated our ability to run the country.”

Rasipuram Hub of handloom silk

Rasipuram is a Municipality in the district of Salem in India. It is situated 25 Km from Salem and 25 Km from Namakkal district. This is rather a small village with the population engaged in agriculture and handloom weaving. The people here speak only Tamil. Handloom industry The village is once well known for handloom silk products. Once famous for its handloom products now flourishing with powerlooms. The traditional weavers are very much upset due to the decline of handlooms. Rasipuram is famous for its silk handloom products. Rasipuram handlooms are well known for the durability of the colours used in the yarn. The mixture of colour gives durability.

The count used in weaving gives the softness and hardness of the fabric. Count means the number of threads used in the length and breadth for weaving known as warp and weft respectively. In Rasipuram 5600 threads are used in warp. The width of the saree comes to 51 inches. Each and every thread of the Rasipuram handloom saree is hand woven. Each weaver works from home with all his / her family members helping in different steps of the process. It requires approximately

4-8 days (depending on the variety of saree) of continuous efforts for weaving a saree.

Dyeing The process of manufacturing a Rasipuram handloom Saree starts with dyeing the silk yarn. Dyeing is the coloring process of the yarn by dipping the yarn in the boiled color water in very high temperature, higher the temperature durability of colour is also higher. The colours are applied as per the specifications of the designers and also some times as per the orders from customers who orders for a designer Saree. After coloring, the silk yarn is dried in shade. Drying yarn in sun can be harmful to yarn.

Weaving 38

After dyeing and drying the yarn, it is converted to thread and is loaded as warp which is called pavvu and then it is loaded into the loom for actual weaving. It is also rolled over small sticks to use for wept. One pavvu can make 6 sarees. It will take 2 months to complete weaving of one pavvu. the traditional Rasipuram handloom products.

Weaver’s voice The weavers of Rasipuram blame the mushrooming powerlooms for the high cost of silk yarn. The weavers demands a responsible role by the government to protect the handloom industry by providing subsidy for yarn and a rehabilitation package for the weavers who are suffering due to high cost of yarn and low wages prevailing in the industry. They hope that if the government takes the responsibility to support the handloom industry by way of showcasing and marketing the handloom products, the industry can survive or else the present situation has started the end of handloom industry in Rasipuram. The new generation is not interested in the profession due to the hard labour and long hours to bring out the finished product, even the returns are not lucrative to make them stay in the profession. Due to the non availability of weavers the handloom industry is fastly shifting to power looms. JULY 2016 | WWW.AZWISHESH.COM

Jaunsari tribes with puranic descendance 40

The Jaunsari Pahari live primarily in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh. The term “Pahari” can refer to any mountain dwelling people. The different Paharia groups can be distinguished by region, religion, and caste.

T

The Jaunsari caste system has only three categories - landowners, servants (those involved in a service occupation or art), and Brahmins (Hindu priests). The Jaunsari community traces its origin to the Pandavas of Mahabharat. The five Pandava brothers having one wife. Traditionally, Jaunsari have followed the custom of brothers sharing wives. The Jaunsaris have practised polyandry, where one woman will have more than one husband. Some anthropologists assert that the Jaunsaris are the last surviving ‘pure’ descendants of the Aryans. Polyandry and polygamy are not the only facets of the colourful lifestyle of the Jaunsaris—their dances,

ways of worship, and marriage costumes all add meaning to their way of living. The main occupation of the Jaunsari is agriculture, which they supplement by raising buffaloes, cows, goats, and sheep. Their principal crops are potatoes and rice and a variety of other vegetables . They follow a system of plot rotation in which the ground is allowed to lie fallow. Wet rice cultivation is done during the monsoon season. Dry rice, maize, millet and wheat are raised on the drier land. The villagers live on a simple diet of milk, lentils, a few vegetables, some fruit and occasionally meat.

The object of the Jaunsaris’ worship is the goddess Mahasu, as well as the Pandavas and their mother Kunti. Their pilgrimage centre is a place called Lakhamandal. Festivals and fairs are an integral part of the life of Jaunsari tribal community. Bissu, a type of fair marking the harvesting, is quite a significant one. Song and dance is part and

The Jaunsaris make their houses out of wood, bricks and stones, with slate, wood and thatch roofing. Doors, windows and doorframes are often ornately carved and painted. The houses are rectangular in shape and many have two stories, with the people living on the upper floor and the animals roaming freely on the ground floor.

parcel of the life of these Jaunsari tribes. Both men and women dance with the rhythm of melodious songs and music especially at the time of festivals and various social functions and affairs.

Mahasu Devta is one of the principal deities whom each and every tribe of the Jaunsari community reveres. The devotees will bring out a procession every year in the month of August. Even a fair has been organized at that time.

The birth of a baby girl is greeted with joy by Jaunsar tribe. When she has grown up and is deemed fit to marry, usually at fifteen or sixteen, there will be no burdensome dowry that has to be given to the bridegroom or his family. Instead, it is the boy’s family which will pay an agreed, furiously negotiated bride price to the girl’s family before the wedding ceremony takes place. The bride is carried to her new village on the shoulders of the bridegroom or one of his relatives. JULY 2016 | WWW.AZWISHESH.COM

Bhoksa The Knowledgeable

Bhoksa, also known as Buksa, are indigenous peoples living mainly in the states of Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh. They are mostly concentrated in Dehradun and Nainital districts in the Kumaon foothills of the outer Himalayas. They are found in the Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh, where they are known as Mehra. WWW.AZWISHESH.COM | JULY 2016

The language of Bhoksa is Tharu. The language is spoken in Uttarakhand, mainly in southwestern Nainital district, along a diagonal from Ramnagar to Keneshpur. It is spoken around 130 villages in Kichha and Kashipur tahsils, some in Bijnor and Garhwal Districts. Bhoksa is a corruption of the word buqra, which is a root found in the Terai and was the staple diet of the Bhoksa. Some traditions state that they acquired the name on account of the fact that their appearance was unkempt and their neighbours gave the name bhoksa, which means a mountain goat in the local Pahari language. In Dehradun and Bijnor districts, they are known as Mehra, which is said to be a corruption of the Hindi word mehram, which means a knowledgeable person. Bhoksas claim that they are Rajputs from the Deccan Plateau that fled to the hills to escape the Muslim conquerors of India. This is said to be reflected in their sub-division, the Rajvanshi, Suryavanshi, Chandravanshi and Dujvanshi, all well known Rajput sub-groups. The Bhoksa are found along the slopes of the lower Himalayas, in a forested region known as

the Terai. In Uttar Pradesh, they are found in Pilibhit and Bijnor districts, while in Uttarakhand, they are found in Udham Singh Nagar and Dehradun districts. The Bhoksas are now Hindu, having abandoned earlier animist traditions and this is seen by their use of Brahmin priests. They maintain a tribal deity, Shakumbari Devi, to which they have a special relevance. The Bhoksa now speak Hindi and have customs similar to other neighbouring Hindu communities. The Bhoksa still occupy distinct settlements, which they do not share with any tribal or caste grouping. They are now cultivators, with many maintaining their secondary occupation as mountain guides. The Bhoksas are strictly endogamous and practice clan exogamy. Their main clans are the Chauhan, Pundir, Tonwar, Chambaval, Kutiyala, Panwar, Phalsane, Katheriya, Tumbewar, Banwarbatti, Lakkiwal, Malanhas, Khasam, Kotwal and Chad. All these clans are of equal status and intermarry. Women are not highly literate but their suggestions are not over looked. They hold a good position in

the family. They do not follow the veil system. Kinship relations are very momentous in their lives. Purchase marriage is very frequent among them. Bride wealth is in practice, because sex ratio is very far from equivalency. Girls play a vital role in the domestic work. A Bhoksa male can marry only in a situation, when he has an agricultural land because it proves his capability to look after his family. Marriage is performed in the late age. They are exogamous at the level of gotra. Cross cousin and parallel cousin marriage is a social taboo in their cultural life. Separation is permitted. It is minimal due to the high bride wealth, which is not possible for a Bhoksa male to arrange from time to time. Bhoksas follow the Hindu religion. They have faith in the Hindu gods and goddess. They worship to Shankar (Mahadev) – the main Hindu god, Kali, Durga, Lakshmi, Ram, Krishna. Chamunda devi is the main goddess, who is known as “Badi devi”. Holi, Deepavali, Dushara, Krishna Janmashtmi are their main festivals.

Ayodhya Birth place of Maryadha Purushotham SriRam

Ayodhya is an ancient city of India, the old capital of Awadh, in the Faizabad district of Uttar Pradesh, India. Ayodhya is the birth place of Lord Sriram and the capital of the ancient Kosala Kingdom. Ayodhya is situated on the right bank of the river Sarayu, 555 km east of New Delhi., just 6 km from Faizabad. Ayodhya is a popular pilgrim centre. Ayodhya is pre-eminently a city of temples yet, all places of worship here are not only of Hindu religion. At Ayodhya several religions have grown and prospered simultaneously, at different periods of time. Remnants of Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Islam can still be found in Ayodhya. According to Jain tradition, five Tirthankaras were born at Ayodhya, including Adinath (Rishabhadeva) the 1st Tirthankar. The Brahmanda Purana considers Ayodhya as one of the six holiest

cities in Hinduism.

History The name Ayodhya comes from the Sanskrit word “yudh”, meaning “fight” or “wage war,” and it translates to either “not to be fought” or, less literally, “unconquerable.” During the time of Gautama Buddha the city was called Ayojjha in Pali and Ayodhya in Sanskrit. Buddhist temples, monuments and centers of learning having been established here during the age of the Mauryan Empire and the Gupta Dynasty. Ayodhya reached its glorious peak as known to history during the reign of the Guptas over India. This city was also a significant trade centre in 600 BC. Historians have identified this place as Saketa, a key Buddhist centre during the 5th century BC. It is a widely held belief that Buddha visited Ayodhya on several occasions. Ayodhya has a historical significance for the Jain community too. This is the birth place of two important Jain Tirthankaras who were born in the early centuries CE. Jain texts also stand testimony to the visit of Mahavir, Jainism’s last Tirthankar to this city. Ayodhya is also the birth place WWW.AZWISHESH.COM | JULY 2016

Bhagwan Swaminarayan, founder of the Swaminarayan Sect of Hinduism lived here during his childhood years. It was from Ayodhya that Bhagwan Swaminarayan started his seven year journey across India as a ‘Neelkanth’. Under Mughal rule, it was the seat of the governor of Awadh, and later during the British Raj the city was known as Ajodhya or Ajodhia and was part of the United Provinces of Agra and Oudh. When Muslim rulers established around the city under Mohammed of Ghor, it lost its strategic and economic importance to Lucknow and Kanpur. Saadat Ali Khan, Nawab of Awadh, bestowed the Riyasat of Ayodhya on his loyal Brahmin soldier Dwijdeo Mishra of the Kasyapa gotra, for quelling revenue rebels in Mehendauna in Eastern UP. The Hanumangarhi temple at Ayodhya was built by the Nawab of Awadh. Ayodhya was annexed in 1856 by the British rulers. Between 1857 and 1859, this place was one of the main centers

For centuries, it was the capital of the descendants of the Surya dynasty of which Lord Rama was the most celebrated king. Ayodhya during ancient times was known as Kosaladesa. Ayodhya is named after King Ayudh. He was the founder of this city and hence the name Ayodhya. It has been mentioned in the ancient Hindu scriptures that King Ayudh was one of the forefathers of Lord Rama. The same Raghuvanshi dynasty had the great king Raja Harischandra. The illustrious Ikshvaku of the solar clan (Suryavansha) was the ruling dynasty of this region. According to tradition, Ikshvakus was the eldest son of Vaivasvata JULY 2016 | WWW.AZWISHESH.COM

A few generations later came Mandhatri, in whose line the 31st king was Harischandra, known widely for his love of truth. Raja Sagar of the same clan performed the Asvamedha Yajna and his great grandson Bhagiratha is reputed to have brought mother Ganga to earth by the virtue of his penance. Later in the time came the great Raghu, after whom the family came to be called as Raghuvamsa. His grandson was Raja Dasaratha, the illustrious father of Rama, with whom the glory of the Kosala dynasty reached its highest point. Saint Valmiki is said to have written his famous devotional poem Valmiki Ramayan, also called the Ramayan regarding the life of Lord Sriram. Other sages like Kamban and Tulsidas also wrote their verses of Ramayan in the praise and glory of Lord Sriram and the magnificent city of Ayodhya. there have been at least 76 armed conflicts in which over 300,000 Hindus sacrificed their lives to restore the Ram Janma Bhoomi temple.

Wajid Ali Shah (1847-1857) period there were 2 battles and during British Rule (19121934), Hindus fought 2 armed conflicts.

During Babar’s reign (15281530) itself Hindus launched 4 attacks in which 100,000 people were killed. During Humayun’s reign (15301556) there were 10 separate initiatives to regain control. During Akbar’s reign (15561605) 20 battles were fought and in order to avoid further conflict, during the latter part of his reign Akbar allowed Hindus to build a platform known as ‘Ram Chabutra’, and to install and worship images of Ram Parivar in the Ram Janmabhoomi compound.

In 1751 A.D. Maratha Sardar Malhar Rao Holkar after defeating the Pathans in the plains of Ganga and Yamuna, asked Nawab Safderjang to hand over Ayodhya, Kashi and Prayag to the Peshwas. In a letter dated February 23, 1756, Nanasaheb Peshwa asked Sardar Scindia to annex Ayodhya and Kashi as the handover of these holy places was already promised to Raghoba Dada by Sujauddoula. Later in 1789 A.D. Sardar MahadJi Scindia did annex Ayodhya, Mathura and Kashi, but due to his untimely demise, he was not able to restore the temples of Ram Janma Bhoomi, Krishna Janma Bhoomi and Kashi Vishweshwar back to Hindus.

This practice was later opposed by Aurungzeb which resulted in most battles for the control of the shrine during his reign. In Aurangzeb’s reign 30 battles were fought and one such battle was led by Guru Gobind Singh in which Aurangzeb’s army was defeated. Four years later, Aurangzeb again attacked Ayodhya and regained control after killing 10,000 Hindus. During Sahdat Ali (17981814) reign there were 5 battles. During Nasir-uddin Haidar (1814-1837) reign 3 battles were fought. In WWW.AZWISHESH.COM | JULY 2016

During the First War of Independence of 1857 the local Muslim leader Amir Ali persuaded the Muslims to hand over the disputed place to Hindus and jointly fight with the British. However the British won the War of 1857 and Amir Ali and Hindu leader Baba Ram Charan Das were publicly hanged from a tree near the Ram Janma Bhoomi. The British subsequently put a railing wall between Babri structure and the courtyard and separated the Muslim worshipers who got the Babri structure and Hindus had no choice but to do puja outside in the courtyard. In 1934, during the armed conflict between Hindus and Muslims the Babri structure was damaged. Since 1936, the Babri structure was an abandoned building and did not function as a community mosque for local Muslims. A report dated December 10, 1949 by the Waqf inspector Mohammad Ibrahim, to the U.P. few metres away. A massive structure in the shape of a four sided fort with circular bastions at each corner houses a temple of Hanuman and is the most popular shrine in Ayodhya. Situated in the centre of the town, this temple is approachable by a flight of 76 steps. Legend has it that Hanuman lived here in a cave and guarded the Janambhoomi or Ramkot. The main temple contains the statue of Maa Anjani, with Bal Hanuman seated on her lap. The faithful believe that all their wishes are granted with a visit to this holy shrine.

Swarg Dwar According to mythology, Lord Rama is said to have been cremated here.

Mani Parbat and Sugriv Parbat The first of these ancient earth mounds is identified with a stupa built by the Emperor Ashoka, while the second is believed to be an ancient monastery.

Treta ke Thakur This temple stands at the place where Rama is said to have performed the Ashvamedha Yajnya. About 300 years ago the Raja of kulu built a new temple here, which was improved by Ahalyabai Holkar of Indore during 1784, at the same time the adjoining Ghats were also built. The initial idols in black sandstone were recovered from Sarayu and placed in the new temple, famous as Kaleram-ka-Mandir.

Nageshwarnath Temple The temple of Nageshwarnath is said to have been established by Kush the son of Rama. Legend has it that Kush lost his armlet, while bathing in the Sarayu, which was picked up by a Nag-Kanya, who fell in love with him. As she was a devotee of Shiva, Kush erected this temple for her. It is said that this has been the only temple to have survived till the time of Vikramaditya, the rest of city had fallen into ruins and was covered by dense forests. It was by means of this temple that Vikramaditya was able to locate Ayodhya and the sites of different shrines here. The festival of Shivratri is celebrated here with great pomp and splendor. hawk-eyed security men, about 4,000 of them, deployed in every nook and corner of the disputed site. The idol of Ram, placed under a soiled canopy, is open to devotees every morning between seven and ten, and between three and six in the afternoon. Visitors have to pass through several security checkpoints before they can have a darshan of Ram lalla. The checks begin nearly half a km from the temple site. After negotiating a steel barricade, visitors are made to walk through a metal detector. The security tightens as they proceed. There are 400 men and 200 women of the CRPF, 2,700 men of the Provincial Armed Constabulary and 200 of the Rapid Action Force keeping vigil. A new batch of policemen arrives in Ayodhya every three months: the idea is to prevent the cops from developing a ‘bond’ with the place and its residents. Unknown to most devotees

the cops are keeping a watch on them from towers to ensure that no one breaks the security ring. They are assisted by closed-circuit television with cameras installed at vantage points. When the devotees arrive at a second metal detector they are told to deposit all their belongings. Cameras, combs, pens and even matchboxes are a nono beyond this point: visitors may keep only their wallets. As the visitors near the idol, the automatic gun-toting cops of the Central forces come into view. This is the sensitive zone: police sniffer dogs, in fact, scour the area each morning for explosives. The devotees are frequently told to refrain from standing in front of the canopy for long. A quick darshan and they are asked to move on, after accepting prasad from a pundit. After the darshan, the devotees take a circuitous route to a heavily-guarded exit, and walk past a fire tender and Home Guard contingents on the ready. BEAUTY TIPS

Natural beauty is

Eternal beauty

102

WWW.AZWISHESH.COM | JULY 2016

You don't need harsh chemicals or tons of time to get shiny, healthy hair and smoother skin. Nature has provided plenty of products which can enhance and sustain the beauty of a human being. Avoiding chemical and synthetic beauty products can ensure a smooth and aesthetic beauty in yourself. Natures gifts are the most and best option to take care of your beauty. Here are some of the tips which you can experiment at your home. 1. For a radiant complexion, slice a few grapes in half and rub the cut sides over clean skin.

9. After washing your face, rinse in cold water (fair-skinned people should use cool instead of cold) to close the pores and tighten the facial muscles.

2. Sleeping on your back will prevent many wrinkles and breakouts on your face, and even wrinkles in your cleavage area.

10. Mix 1 teaspoon organic sunscreen and a pinch of loose mineral bronzer in your palm, then blend it over your face for an instant (protective!) glow.

3. Being angry really does take away from your beauty now and will result in more wrinkles later.

11. Treat your parched strands to a hydrating mask with all-natural olive oil.

4. Wearing less make-up makes you look younger.

12. Preserve your hair color by avoiding shampoos that contain sulfates.

5. Wearing clothes that are tight make you look heavier. 6. Drink plenty of water and get eight hours of sleep every day. 7. Sleeping on two or three pillows at a time, or putting a wedge pillow under your regular pillow will help get rid of dark circles under your eyes.

13. Add shine by distributing a few drops of Josie Maran Argan Oil Hair Serum throughout damp hair. 14. Vitamins and minerals are needed for health and beauty, but more is not always better. 15. If you are out of quick-dry spray for nails, dip your fingers into a bowl of ice-cold water.

8. Exercise while dieting is a must or your skin will be too large (and saggy) for your smaller body. JULY 2016 | WWW.AZWISHESH.COM

Haryanka Dynasty

The Haryanka dynasty was the second ruling dynasty of Magadha, an ancient kingdom in India, which succeeded the Barhadratha dynasty. The reign of this dynasty probably began in the middle of 6th century BCE. Initially, the capital was Rajagriha. Later, it was shifted to Pataliputra, near the present day Patna in India. The founder of this dynasty was either Bimbisara himself or his father Bhattiya.

INDIAN HISTORY

According to the Buddhist text, the Mahavamsa, Bimbisara was anointed king by his father at the age of fifteen. According to George Turnour and N.L. Dey, the name of the father of Bimbisara was Bhatiya or Bhattiya, but the Puranas refer him as Hemajit, Kshemajit, Kshetroja or Ksetrauja and the Tibetan texts mention him as Mahapadma. This dynasty was succeeded by the Shishunaga dynasty.

Pradyota became king of Avanti ending the Brhadratha Dynasty and 124 commencing the Haryanka Dynasty of Magadha. The Haryanka king Bimbsara was responsible for expanding the boundries of his kingdom through matrimonial alliances and conquest. Bimbsara was the contemporary to Buddha. Bimbsara was imprisoned and killed by his successor, Ajatasatru, under whose rule, the dynasty reached its largest extent. Ajatasatru’s son Udayabhadra succeeded Ajatasatru and ruled for the next sixteen years. He moved his capital to the bank of Ganges which was known as Pataliputra. followed by Udayabhadra’s son Anuruddha and his son Munda in the same family tradition by slaying the father. Munda’s son Nagadasaka slew his father and continued reigning through this dynasty. The citizens were angered by the rule of Haryankas and revolted against Nagadasaka and anointed Shishunaga as the king.

The Haryanka dynasty founded the Magadha Empire in 684 BC, whose capital was Rajagriha, later Pataliputra. This dynasty was succeeded by the Shishunaga dynasty. There were many states of the Aryans in North India, around the 6th century B. C. These states were called the ‘Mahajanapadas’. The Mahajanapadas of Anga,

Kashi, Kosala, Chedi, Vatsa, Matsya, Shursen, Ashmak, Avanti, Gandhar and Magadha were ruled by kings or monarchs. The kings in these states had the supreme authority. The Mahajanapadas of Vrijji, Malla, Kuru, Panchal and Kamboj were republican states and so were other smaller states like Lichhavi,

Shakya, Koliya, Bhagga, Moriya. These republican states had a ‘Gana-parishad’ or an Assembly of senior and responsible citizens. This, Gana-parishad had the supreme authority in the state. All the administrative decisions were taken by this Parishad. Of all these states, Kosala, Vatsa, Avanti and Magadha were the most important ones.

Padmasana WWW.AZWISHESH.COM | JULY 2016

Padmasana or the Lotus Pose is an important meditative asana. In Padmasana, the legs are locked together and the lower body is absolutely stable. The back and spine will be straight. This is perfect for longer periods of meditation as the body can be held motionless, with least distractions. Relaxation and concentration play an important role performing Yog Asanas. Padmasana is the most easy and suitable asana for contemplation and meditation. The word Padmasana is a Sanskrit word which means “lotus flower” so it’s also known as the “Lotus pose”. It is so called because of the lotus- like formation which made by our legs during this asana. Padmasana provides a good workout and is good for your mind and breathing, conditions the body and core and increases flexibility. If you want to build strength, muscles need to be challenged to their max and while yoga can be strenuous, it has its limits. Although using only your body weight can be challenging when you first start doing Padmasana and your muscles quickly adapt, so the benefits diminish over time. A regular practice of this posture aids in overall blossoming of

the practitioner, just like a lotus and hence the name Padmasana.

How to do 1. Sit on the floor comfortably. Assume the simple cross legged pose where the legs are folded. 2. Lift the left leg and place it on the right thigh. 3. Lift the right leg and place it over the left leg. The knees must touch the floor. 4. Pull and adjust the legs so that soul of the feet face upwards and the heels are tucked in at the waist level near the pelvic bone. 5. Make the spine straight, broaden your chest (to avoid stooping) and place the hands in the gap between the feet. 6. Place the left palm over the right palm.

your threshold of pain, slowly release the legs and massage them gently, till the ache is gone.

Benefits 12. Padmasana is considered one of the best asanas for meditation. 13. Awareness of the breathing process helps to steady the mind. 14. The spine is kept straight and this helps to channel the energy from the lower spiritual centers or chakras upwards towards Sahasrara chakra. 15. The erect spine aids the free flow of prana along the spinal cord. 16. Padmasana can tone the coccygeal and sacral nerves as the blood flow to the legs are restricted and redirected to the abdominal region. 17. Improve digestion.

7. Relax the muscles in the abdomen and chest. 8. The shoulders should be absolutely relaxed. 9. Breathe slowly and deeply.

18. Sitting in Padmasana can relieve many metal and emotional problems. 19. Excellent asana for practicing advanced pranayama techniques.
