Handlooms The Narayanpet handloom industry is best known for silk products. This industry is named on the name of the village Narayanpet in Telangana

Narayanpet handloom is in demand due to its durability of colors used in the yarn. Strong and soft thread used in handloom making makes the fabric strong, soft and durable. From start to end the work is done by hand. Each weaver works from home with all his / her family members helping in different steps of the process. It requires approximately 2 to 3 days, of continuous efforts for weaving a saree. It depends on the variety also. WWW.WISHESH.COM | JANUARY 2016

N

Process of dyeing to design Dyeing The first process in manufacturing handloom weaving is, dyeing the silk yarn. The dyeing process is done in boiling water by mixing the color and dipping the silk yarn in it. While dyeing, higher the boiling temperature the more will be durability of the color.

Coloring is the crucial step in handloom silk. The main thing we have to keep in mind is that while dyeing the color should be equally spread on the silk yarn. Different shade of color can degrade the quality of the saree. After dyeing it has to be dried in the shade (do not dry in the sun).

Weaving The second step after dyeing is weaving. After drying the thread in a shade roll down it over a round beam. Make sure that while rolling over the thread it should not become knotted, so do it carefully. A Weaver can make 30 sarees from one beam of warp. It will take 40 to 45 days to complete weaving of one beam. Narayanpet handloom sarees are traditionally woven in the interlocked-weft technique.

They are also called as Ilhava, Irava, Izhava and Erava in South Kerala; Chovas, Chokons and Chogons in Central Travancore; and Thiyyas, Tiyyas and Theeyas in the Malabar region. Ezhavas form the vast ethnic group of Kerala. Their pride as well as ethnic identity was retained by them and rose above adversity. Ezhavas were agricultural laborers, toddy tappers,

Through old writings, oral history, and folk songs, it is suggested that the Ezhavas were part of the armed forces in the past, serving various kings.

According to a theory proposed for the origins caste system origin in Kerala, based on actions of Aryan Jains before 8thcentury AD. Jains recruited few sympathetic local people for their protection, while those who are not protectors were classed as out-caste. As per the description from Pullapilly, the protectors were given kshatriya functions with shudra status, and thereby Nairs originated. While Ezhavas, who were not among the protector groups became out-castes. As per an alternate theory, the Nambudiri Brahmins introduced the system. From around the 8thcentury, Brahmins acted as counselors, priets and ministers to invading Aryan WWW.WISHESH.COM | JANUARY 2016

princes. During the period, missionaries converted nonaboriginal local population to Buddhism. Symbiotic relationship was used by Brahmins with the invading forces to assert beliefs as well as position. The Ezhavas’ Buddhist tradition besides the refusal to give it up, made them out-caste within the greater Brahminic society. Even now, Ezhavas show greater interest in nonritualistic, moral, and nondogmatic aspects of religion. Culture of Ezhavas includes Aivar kali, Arjuna Nrtam (Mayilppili Tukkam), Makachuttu, Poorakkali,

Teyyam (Teyyattam) or Kaliyattam. Aivar kali, also known as Pandavarkali, was a ritualistic art form and it means the play of the five sets. A ritual art Arjuna Nrtam or Mayilppili Tukkam is performed by Ezhava community men and is prevalent in the Bhagavathy temples of south Kerala, mainly in Kollam, Alappuzha and Kottayam districts. Makachuttu art is even popular among Ezhavas. A folk dance Poorakkali was even prevalent among the Ezhavas of Malabar. In northern Kerala, Teyyam is a popular ritual dance. Ezhavas established their own schools. Britishers encouraged them and even admitted them into civil service in Malabar. Most of them sought progress through political parties and now they are hardcore supporters of the Marxist parties in the state. Today, Ezhavas are powerful ethnic group to be reckoned with in Kerala.

KRISHNA The Butter Thief Krishna and Balaram were the naughtiest boys in the locality of Vrindavana. The gopi friends of Yasoda and Rohini enjoyed the naughty childish activities of Krishna and Balarama in Vrindavana.

STORY FOR KIDS

W

While being naughty Krishna always kept an innocent look, which has stolen the hearts of everybody. There are many interesting stories on the life of Sri Krishna. One such interesting story is of Sri Krishna being a Butter thief.

26

In every household in Vrindavana, yogurt and butter were stocked in pots and hanged high up. Krishna and Balarama would pile up the planks, so that they could reach the pots and pick holes in the pots so that the contents would leak out and they could drink it. This was a common means for stealing butter and milk. When the butter and milk were kept in a dark room, Krishna and Balarama would go there and make the place bright with the valuable jewels and steal the milk and butter. On the whole, Krishna and Balarama engaged in stealing butter and milk from the neighbourhood houses also in many ways. All the gopi are friends of Yasoda and Rohini and enjoyed the naughty childish activities of Krishna and Balarama in Vrindavana. In order to enjoy further transcendental bliss, they all assembled and went to mother Yasoda to lodge complaints against the restless boys. When Krishna was sitting before mother Yasoda, all the elder gopis began to lodge complaints against Him so that Krishna

WWW.WISHESH.COM | JANUARY 2016

could hear. They said, “Dear Yasoda, why don’t you restrict your naughty Krishna? He comes to our houses along with Balarama every morning and evening, and before the milking of the cows they let loose the calves and the calves drink all the milk of the cows. So when we go to milk the cows, we find no milk, and we have to return with empty pots. If we warn Krishna and Balarama about doing this, they simply smile so charmingly that we cannot do anything. Also, your Krishna and Balarama find great pleasure in stealing our stock of yogurt and butter from wherever we keep it. When Krishna and Balarama are caught stealing the yogurt and butter, They say, ‘Why do you charge us with stealing? Do you think that butter and yogurt are in scarcity in our house?’ Sometimes They steal butter, yogurt and milk and distribute them to the monkeys. When the monkeys are well fed and do not take any more, then your boys chide, ‘This milk and butter and yogurt are useless—even the monkeys won’t take it.’ And They break the pots and throw them hither and thither. If we keep our stock of yogurt, butter and milk in a solitary dark place, your Krishna and Balarama find it in the darkness by the glaring effulgence of the ornaments and jewels. If by chance they cannot find the

hidden butter and yogurt, they go to our little babies and pinch them so that they cry, and then go away. If out of fear of these naughty boys we keep our stock of butter and yogurt high on the ceiling, although it is beyond their reach, they arrange to reach it by piling all kinds of wooden planks over the grinding machine. And if they cannot reach, they make a hole in the pot. We think therefore that you’d better take all the jeweled ornaments from the bodies of your children.” On hearing this, Yasoda would say, “All right, I will take all the jewels from Krishna so that he cannot see the butter hidden in the darkness.” Then the gopis would say, “No, no, don’t do this. What good will you do by taking away the jewels? We do not know what kind of boys these are, but even without ornaments they spread some kind of effulgence so that even in darkness they can see everything.” Then mother Yasoda would inform them, “All right, keep your butter and yogurt carefully so that they may not reach it.” In reply to this, the gopis said, “Yes, actually we do so, but because we are sometimes engaged in our household duties, these naughty boys enter our house somehow or other and spoil everything. Sometimes, being unable to steal our butter and yogurt, out of anger they pass

urine on the clean floor and sometimes spit on it. Now just see how your boy is hearing these complaints. All day he simply makes arrangements to steal our butter and yogurt, and now he is sitting just like a very silent good boy. Just see His face.” When mother Yasoda thought to chastise her boy after hearing all the complaints, she saw His pitiable face, and smiling, she did not chastise Him. All the gopis and cowherd men who were associates of Krishna naturally developed their own different feelings of love for Krishna, even when they were complaining about the naughtiness of the little boys. Salmon If salmon isn’t a food you would think to serve to your child, then you might want to reconsider this pink fish. Avocado Avocado is full of monounsaturated fats, the “good” fats that kids actually need in their diet every day. In fact, it’s recommended that 25 to 35% of kid’s calories come from fats, primarily the unsaturated ones. So how do you get your child to eat this creamy green fruit? We’ve found avocado goes over well with kids when served as a spread on wraps in place of mayonnaise or cream cheese.

Procedure * Ripe avocado should mash easily with a fork. * Mix in a dash of lemon juice and salt, and you’ve got a tasty spread or dip.

India students to benefit from new

Immigration rules

36

UK chancellor of the exchequer George Osborne’s recent announcement in his Autumn Statement that foreign non-European Union students could be excluded from official migration figures, has been welcomed by education experts. f this proposal is implemented, overseas students, including those from India, will not be included in the overall migration statistics. Keith Burnett, vice chancellor of the University of Sheffield, welcomed this proposal and said, “The drop in the number of Indian students has had university leaders extremely concerned for a long time. The proposal will rightly go some way in reassuring India that, WWW.WISHESH.COM | JANUARY 2016

aside from world-class teaching and facilities, the UK will recognise her huge academic and cultural contribution to this country.” Karan Bilimoria, member of the House of Lords and founder Cobra Beer, too, welcomed the Osborne’s announcement. “The announcement by Osborne is extremely positive. I have been saying for many years that the government should set targets to increase the number of international students entering the UK and, finally, the chancellor

has listened and set a target of a 55,000 increase in the number of international students by 2019-2020. The statement will certainly encourage Indian students to come to the UK and hopefully arrest the decline,” he told. “I hope that the UK government will target prospective Indian students with its policy initiatives, for example by reintroducing a post-study work visa for foreign students, including Indian students, which were in place before the previous

government changed it. Indian students are one of the largest foreign student communities in British universities and have a great deal to offer,” he said. According to research from mayor Johnson’s promotional agency London and Partners, London attracts 100,000 international students every year, more than any other city in the world. These students contribute £3 billion to the capital’s economy and help support 37,000 jobs. Mayor London, Boris

Johnson had proposed new measures to help the city retain its position as the education capital of the world and arrest the sharp decline in the number of Indian students who went there to study. Johnson has put forward to the UK government two policy options on work opportunities following graduation, which will be attractive to students from India and other countries. These include a Commonwealth work visa for up to two years, which would be with India,

in the first instance, but could be extended to other Commonwealth countries, if successful. The second proposal is of a work visa for graduates in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) for up to two years. India is the third-largest international student market in London after China and America. Tips for

Rocking

Married life Are you married and looking tips to enjoy the married life? After marriage, it becomes necessary to make your life enjoyable as well as romantic. When come in contact with your partner, you get a chance to know about them and make your life romantic.

JANUARY 2016 | WWW.WISHESH.COM

Relationship

Tips for rocking married life

1

. Know that the romance and passion of the early days will sooner or later fizzle out. Instead of moping for that lost passion, recall the early days of your dating / courtship / wooing / chasing.

2 72

. True, you are now man and wife, but you don’t need to merge your individual identities. If before marriage you were fond of wearing skirts, or playing a game of cricket with the boys, you don’t need to give that up just because you’re married.

3

. While giving space to each other is vital, make sure that communication never ceases. Any lull in communication can be potentially dangerous. So, have periods of silences, but fill each other in when you catch up.

4

. Fights between couples are normal, but so is making up. Scream, holler, have it all out, but once you’re over and done with, remember to not let the sun go down on your fight. Make up before the day is out.

WWW.WISHESH.COM | JANUARY 2016

5

. Respect each other’s weaknesses and sensitive points. If he can’t bear to hear any criticism about his mother and she can’t stand her unsuccessful attempts at losing weight being made fun of, know how to steer clear of those.

6

. While most people do feel thankful towards their partners, very few actually express it verbally. According to studies, people who felt appreciated by their partners for their efforts, experience less resentment and more satisfaction in their relationship. Couples who appreciate each other have higher chances of having a successful marriage than those who don’t. A generous dose of compliments is a big ego booster and can do wonders for your relationship.

7

. Find a thing that you enjoy doing together and make time to do them. Exercise together, go on walks, or take on mutually enjoyable projects together. It doesn’t matter what it is, as long as you both have fun doing it. Spending time together enjoying each other’s company, all will strengthen your happy marriage and add another meaningful dimension to your relationship.

8

. Don’t go through your partner’s things out of curiosity or in an effort to check up on them. We all want our privacy to be respected and when someone violates that, it feels offensive. Don’t let a sense of insecurity cause you to become overly suspicious of your mate. On the other hand, being secretive can create suspicion. A happy marriage should be built on open and honest communication. So, if there is something you need to know, ask, don’t snoop. JANUARY 2016 | WWW.WISHESH.COM

Need not master it

You need not be a master in romancing your girl, just simple romantic approaches can bring a lot of changes between the couple. JANUARY 2016 | WWW.WISHESH.COM

Love & Romance

76

But if you don’t know those simple approaches, you should surely think upon it. Being a good friend of all my readers, I do not want my people to face that problem. So I am suggestinag you five of such simple romantic approaches below.

When she really wants to move out with you and you are in no mood of going out, as you had the worst situations in the office, explain her well, in a cool manner. The love you show, while smoothly rejecting her request, would make her rub on your hair and say, “It’s ok buddy, what is there in going out, even I do not feel to breath bad air outside now.” The reason behind these words are to manage you, so that you are not hurt, thinking that your girl was hurt, after you rejected her request. She thus puts you in a comfort zone and even thinks twice before asking you, next time.

1. Not big, remember small days Remembering and wishing on marriage anniversaries and birthdays, is something which everyone does. But remember, you are the only special person to your girl, in her life. When you are so special, why not surprise her remembering, some special days like, the day you kissed her for the first time or the day she proposed you or to get much deeper, the day you ate her cooked meal for the first time and so. Remembering these days, is WWW.WISHESH.COM | JANUARY 2016

not every husband does in this busy life. But you prove that being busy is not an exception to show love. Remembering such minute things like these, will make her think that you care about her so much and thus, she never minds, even though you are busy in normal days.

2. She makes you comfortable, even you reject

3. Not technical, mutual understanding is important May be your girl could not understand your problems in your office and few technical issues might be out of the question, of her brain. But even then, if you share those things, at the end of the day, she starts thinking that, you care about her so much, that you do not hide anything from her and tells everything, even though, she is not able to understand anything.

4. Physical touch is never over ruled How long does a simple kiss take? A few fraction of seconds right? Taking out such fractions, even in your busy schedule, especially while going to office on a busy morning, is another good method, to boost up your romantic life with your partner.

5. Weekend is the best time to prove yourself

No one could deny the fact that, physical touch produces several magics, which are required to strengthen a relation. So, remember, a simple hug and a light kiss, can bring out the changes, you cannot afford to miss.

You know the pressure she took, in cooking for you, making you everything handy, without making you struggle to move in your house, here and there. When she did it for 6 days in a week. Can’t you do the same in one day?

May be you are not a master in cooking or in several other things she does throughout the weekdays. But remember, love does not need masters or perfectionists. It is your efforts to impress your girl, that really mean a lot to her. Follow the above tips and you would not find much time, to feel the change in your romantic life.

Bengal Tiger The second half of Bengal Tiger is the game changer and is crucial actually. But the director could not make it big because of the screenplay which has never been gripping. Ravi Teja has been lean enough that the action episodes brought huge smiles than the comedy episodes.

Story : Bengal Tiger is the story of Akash who aims a big future without taking much risk. He aims to become a celebrity and famous with his caliber and potential. Life changes when he hits the Agricultural Minister (Shiyaji Shindey) with a stone and his impressive thoughts change his life. He then moves to Home Minister Nagappa (Rao Ramesh) who makes him his personal security. Akash impresses Nagappa’s daughter Shradda (Rashi Khanna) big time and she falls for him. At this time

Akash dreams of marrying Meera (Tamannah)

Analysis : The first half of the movie has been thoroughly entertaining though the director misses the major logics. The entertainment impresses the audience completely and the songs have been shot well. Posani Krishna Murali and Prudhvi’s comedy connects well and fills the auditorium with huge laughs. The pre interval episodes have been predictable and on the whole the first half of the movie has been impressive enough for the audience. The second half of Bengal Tiger is the game changer and is crucial actually. But the director could not make it big because of the screenplay which has never been gripping

Final Word: Bengal Tiger has an impressive first half but the movie falls flat because of the predictable and spoiled second half. Ravi Teja has been lean enough that the action episodes brought huge smiles than the comedy episodes.

transforms into a responsible man forgetting the bitter truths of Sandy.

Analysis : The first half of Thanga Magan has been high on entertainment and love making scenes. The songs of the movie and the narration about the characters have been taken huge care of. The twist arises at the right time which brings a huge shock among the audience. On the whole the complete first half of Thanga Magan has been quite gripping and entertaining. The second half of Thanga Magan is completely a different story. The movie becomes quite serious throughout the film and the levels of entertainment come down completely.

Final Word: Thanga Magan is a movie that has enough content to entertain the audience. Dhanush, Amy and Samantha tops the show.
